Every dog is a responsibility, and it takes a kind hearted person to go through the process of adoption. Through shelters it’s about an hour process to adopt. They ask for your current pets (if there is any) vet, the phone number of the vet, every one who lives in the house phone number, so they can call and see if they are okay with having a new furry friend in the house. They give scenarios that could possibly happen with a new puppy in the house for example, what do you do if the puppy is digging in the yard? Or what do you do if the mailman comes to the door and the dog starts barking? The process is long but it is worth it. The shelters even off puppy training classes that’ll teach them household manners, which includes potty training, leash training so that they will be able to go on walks without having to wear a harness. You get so much out of adoption that you don’t get from pet stores that will not offer. With my new adoption I was offered classes for him. Puppy classes, intermediate, therapy dogs, than k9 classes.
The main issue in adoption is whether the new or potential family is capable of providing a safe permanent, and secure home for the pet . Most shelters will deny access to the pet if they feel as if the people adopting aren’t capable of giving the pet the perfect life that they deserve. The sad truth of adopting is the pet can can have behavioral problems if they were neglected or abused in their previous homes. It takes a lot but training and
Her name was Snow White, beautiful eyes with a smile so bright, perked up ears that rose to the sky and beautiful black and white fur that made you feel safe when needed someone to talk to or even a hug. Since birth she was loyal, since birth she was faithful, but the reality of it all is that, not every owner knew how to take care of her. An animal is known to be more than a companion and our savior of the night, which is why we should understand the reality behind animal welfare, but in actuality, we don’t. But, they’re some habits to create a positive impact on animal welfare. From taking your pet to the veterinarian every six months to making sure your animal feels loved and appreciated by giving them attention, they are a lot more ways
Why pay hundreds on buying a dog, then spending a little to adopt one? Thousands of dogs die from puppy mills die each year, while they suffer through the harsh environment that puppy mills give. At the same time, others are waiting to become a new member of the family by adoption. Three main reasons why you should adopt dogs are, you can give them a second chance, stop puppy mills, and you can start the dog out healthy.
There are many things to consider before adopting. First, bringing a dog into your life is a commitment of often, many years. Especially if you adopt a puppy. Adopting a puppy, you should be willing to commit 10-15 years on average, and be willing to take care of that dog through sickness and through health. Making sure all family members in the household are on board for this is also very important. Considering the ages of your family members is important as well. Having young kids in the home, you may want to think twice about adopting a very young puppy or a very small breed that is under 15 pounds. Young children do not understand how to act around dogs, especially ones on the smaller size and accidents can happen. The new dog must fit the physical capabilities of everyone in the household as well or at least the main
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don’t think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That’s in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they’re not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can’t make their own meals, and they can’t drive a car, but that doesn’t mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an
Many people enjoy companionship with their animals; however, according to the American Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), “every 60 seconds, another animal is abused.” Animals are often neglected in ways such as improper feeding, dog fighting, cockfighting, and being bred in puppy mills. In order to end animal abuse, people need to be enlightened about the multiple ways animals can be abused. Awareness of activities surrounding animal abuse will help decreases animal abuse. Education is of utmost importance in preventing animal abuse.
Animals need homes and adoption is an amazing option, but is also a very big decision that shouldn’t be done in a spurt of the moment and should be thought thru. Animals are just like small children high energy and opened to the new things, but fragile and naïve. The ad brings out this great comparison of adopting a child and adopting a dog. When adopting a child you are planning to make them part of your family and you becoming there forever home. It shouldn't be any different when adopting an animal and giving it a forever
At the Colorado Springs Humane Society, they don't have an adoption application. They have an adoption survey that helps to make sure owners and pets will be an appropriate match. When the survey is completed and approved the adoption proceeds. Depending on the adopted pet there may be medical costs before the pet can be adopted.
Lately shelters have been promoting fostering of dogs to help relieve some of the burden and also to be able to accept more dogs and save more lives. Due to the increasing population of dogs that come to shelters this new option is the best opportunity
By fixing the animals they won't be aloud to ever be parents or be parents again. It can affect someone’s decision because the adopters may want their animals to have babies for them to keep. Sometimes when coming to an opinion it's possible to think that when you get a pet you’ll love it but then you end up not. Also, there can be times when you just can't keep your pet any longer and there's no one you can give it to. And if you take it to a shelter you’ll be charged money for leaving it there. So it's a reasonable thing to do. It can be that breeders breed their pets because that's the way these people eat or have a roof under there under them. Also, the breeders might not be able to get a job because he or she cannot
Allison Gray in her article “How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets to Suffer,” offers a harsh critique that animal shelters hold a very strict adoption process by not allowing unqualified pet owners to adopt. She argues that adoption shelters want to find the perfect owner, but the perfect owner does not exist by her claims. Therefore, pets are not adopted out and are left to suffer in animal shelters. With the guidelines for pet adoption already in place she states that most pets were not adopted out because prospecting owners had an intact pet at home, their current pet was overdue for vaccines and they wanted an outdoor cat. She exudes that it is the shelters harsh policies that are keeping pets from being adopted out and finding their forever home.
Many people buy the pets they want, but there are rarely any human beings that actually adopt. Let me ask you a simple question. Do you usually buy your pets from a breeder, or do you actually go out and search for the one to adopt? Many of you will say buy from a breeder, but that’s okay. Let me just list my facts and you think them over. Maybe I can get your opinion to change.
CARE South Coast-An all volunteer, no-kill animal shelter in Acushnet, MA. Our physical shelter has cats only, while our dogs can be seen in foster homes by appointment. The better stories are when people are moving to an apartment or across the country and can't take their pet, the better people will bring their cat or kitten to a place like CARE. But even then some people just let them out and leave. And the really sad stories are when they just leave them in a carrier or box on the side of the road. It is so sad to see these poor cats and kittens abandoned because they were once love and now they have no one. But once you adopted one then they just are so much happier. On my board I have some picture of cats before and after adoption.
If you’re considering getting a dog or adding a new member to the pack, read this article about how to avoid puppy mills and why adopting or rescuing a dog is a better alternative.
Adopting a shelter dog has its benefits for you and the dog. Shelters usually have a good mixture of puppies and older dogs. Adopting a dog that is two years or older would save you a lot of messes because they involve less cleaning up and are less likely to chew on all of your belongings (Kowalski). You would also be saving that dog’s life because when shelters are overcrowded, they have to euthanize dogs to make room. You could save one of the 2.7 million euthanized dogs and a couple others because it would make room for more to come in (“Top Reasons”). Shelters can also help you learn to be the best owner. They can help you match a dog’s personality to your life style and some shelters even offer training classes for you and your new dog (Kowalski). You might think that there are only mutts in animal shelters but, dogs come in of every size, color, breed, and age. Trust me, there is nothing wrong with a mutt, I mean, my Sam is darn near perfect and we have no clue what mixture of dogs he could be. Many purebred dogs are dropped off every day for no fault of their own; the owners might not be able to afford them or landlords do not allow them (“Adopt vs Shopping”). Plus, buying a purebred dog from a breeder can cost you thousands of dollars for the adoption, then you have to pay vet fees, and you will have to buy food for the rest of its life. A dog adopted from a
When you adopt a dog they become apart of your family, you would never do anything to this dog to hurt it or make it feel not loved. Because they’re family so why would you? Unfortunately there are people out there who leave dogs behind or just abandon them on the street because they are ‘too old’. Dogs go through a lot of pain and suffering that a lot of people don’t know about. Hopefully this can open up some eyes.
