Over the past years, the number of smokers has been on the rise. In today’s society, they are given the tools to be aware of harmful it can be, yet they still chose to do it. Smoking is a force of habit, it is a choice a person makes either to participate or not but it becomes outrageously addictive. The person choosing to smoke may not realize that they are not just harming themselves but they are also harming the ones surrounded by them. It has a negative effect on the people around the smoker because when the nicotine gets in the air it becomes hard to breathe and it travels amongst people faster than they realize. Smoking should be banned in all public places due to the bad influences, healthier lifestyles, and negative effect on …show more content…
If a woman who is expecting a child is smoking or who has a young child, that child will be in danger of asthma attacks, respiratory infections, and even infant death syndrome. “Regulations have been laid in the UK parliament which will lead to making smoking in cars carrying children illegal in England,” Secondhand smoke also affects adults, it can result in lung cancer or cardiovascular diseases. A ban on smoking would protect the public from passive smoking. If smoking in public was banned it would promote healthier lifestyles for everyone. Although the smoker is the one choosing to put those harmful chemicals into their body, if a child lives in the house with that person it can become very dangerous for that child. He or she will be more prone to asthma attacks and their immune system will even become weaker. Therefore if smoking was banned, it would promote healthier lifestyles for everyone. Some communities have already put a ban on smoking in public areas. In 2005 Washington State made it illegal to smoke in public and they have to come to the agreement that it has helped their community by taking this action. “The law is meant to protect both the public and employees from exposure to secondhand smoke.” Generally when a person is smoking outside a store or restaurant once they finish their cigarette they throw the bud on the ground. Not only are they putting
Smoking is an activity that has been around for many years for people to use and adapt into their lifestyle. It is a tool that many people use to help reduce the stresses of life and put them in a comfortable position that enables them to cope with the hectic lifestyle they are living. However, smoking has been scientifically proven to cause many types of cancer, the most common being lung cancer resulting in numerous deaths across the United States. According to BBC, "Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease" (BBC, 2). Evidently, the benefits and drawbacks of smoking have been debated for many years, and only recently have some countries have placed a ban in public places such as Britain and the United
Smoking should be banned in Australia. Smoking is a disgusting habit that many Australians use every single day. The impact of banning smoking altogether in Australia would be a massive favour for everyone. Australian adults who smoke everyday and Australian Secondary Students from the age 12 to 17 smoke over 22 billion cigarettes per year and effecting other people to start smoking because they think it’s a cool way to get attention. But I think that banning it in almost all public places is a great idea but I raise this question to you, “Why not just Ban Smoking?” This question was raised in a ‘The Age’ article in 2013. The main point of the article is, smoking is banned in pretty much all public places and there are often neighbours writing to the council complaining about a smoking neighbour, so why not just ban it altogether?
I am contacting you today in regards to life-threatening concerns that are apparent in my mind as I prevalently witness these actions taking place every day by citizens of our state. Extremely toxic chemicals are consumed during the smoking of cigarettes by people under and of legal age. When one single cigarette is lit, and smoked, more than 6,000 different chemicals are taken into the lungs and released into the environment, which in turn, create a higher risk of lung cancer as well as a range of other diseases, and the smoke is polluting the environment. I am aware of the multiple approaches previously taken to decrease smoking, such as, increased taxation on cigarettes, smoke-free zones, and creating other resorts in place of a cigarette. However, according to John R. Polito, author of the book Freedom from Nicotine, smoking cigarettes is extremely addictive and breaking a cigarette addiction is
Is smoking a cigarette like aiming a smoking gun to your head? Absolutely, yes! The photo above, has a very powerful message to be shared with people all over the world. The creator of the picture above is, The American Cancer Society. This is an organization that is trying to heighten awareness of the dangers of smoking, the most threatening danger being, cancer. They also promote relays which help raise money for ads and research. The money raised helps to inform people of the dangers smoking and what the negative outcomes of such a habit. This society also helps with finding treatment options. They are helping people cope with the side effects of various cancers or to advise on health insurance. A certain population of people, particularly young people, see smoking as a cool or hip idea to fit in. The goal of this visual argument is to inform people who smoke cigarettes that they should just hold a gun to their heads. The American people should be against nonsmoking because of the feelings you get when smoking, the chemicals that are involved, and how the cigarette will kill like a loaded gun.
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide
From the other side of my argument, People who smoke argue that they have personal rights and the right to burn their own cigarette any way they
Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their great-grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted to it, and now they can’t stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places.
I don’t show the smoke for market doors because however you enter site you will not be seen by doors (Unless you enter from van area, which the smoke could allow you to pick them off) You can push multiple angles watching doors not directly allowing you to catch anyone pushing out. I would suggest throwing a Molotov down there though anyway.
Other than affecting the health of the smoker, the second-hand smoke from smokers' cigarettes can also affect the health of others around them. When someone is smoking a cigarette in public or anywhere else there may be other people, they aren't only risking their own life, but the other people's lives around them as well. They need to recognize this and be more respectful to the others around them. Non-smokers who breathe in this second-hand smoke may experience allergies or a variety of different irritations. This is especially dangerous to pregnant women who are open to the second-hand smoke, for it can enlarge the risk of having an irregular birth. However, with a little bit of our help, in time these smokers can learn and will not allow
Discarded cigarettes – designed to continue to burn for several minutes when dropped and not puffed upon – are a major fire hazard, threatening surrounding outdoor public areas.
Smoking laws in Queensland are extensive and most have been in effect since 1 July 2006. Smoking is not allowed in all enclosed public places . It is permitted in residential spaces, along with specific outdoor public spaces such as beaches, children's playgrounds , sport stadiums and at outdoor eating and drinking venues. It is also allowable within 4 metres of public (i.e. non-residential) building entrances. In 2010 it became illegal to smoke in a car when a child under the age of 16 is present. In 2011 Brisbane City Council banned smoking in the CBD shopping strip Queen Street Mall.
Imagine we lived in a world where smoking was banned… we could prevent, life-threatening diseases, premature demise, the death of wildlife, and 2.5 million losses caused by the exposure to secondhand smoke. (“Tobacco Facts and Figures” 1) Although cigarette smoking has decreased from 12.6% to 7%, 42 million Americans still continue to smoke regularly. (“Tobacco-Related Cancers Fact Sheet” 1) America’s media has a way of glamorizing this toxic product and consequently influencing more individuals to jeopardize their lives and everything around them in order for people to perceive them in a “cool” manner. All in all, smoking should be prohibited in the United States because it negatively impacts society as a whole. Cigarettes not only causes deadly diseases in the
Opponents of banning smoking in public places feel that it is a choice and that it will take away their free will. “They argue that people should have the autonomy to decide on what kind of lifestyle they will have” (3). Banning public smoking may also decrease business at local bars, restaurants, etc. “….as for establishments which are already smoke-free, competition will be higher. It will also be harder for them to leverage since there will be more businesses that are smoke-free” (3). Additionally, opponents say that non-smokers can walk away if it bothers them. If a person does not like being around smokers then they can simply move away from them or kindly ask the smoker to move. Some also argue that exhaust fumes are just as, if not more, harmful as cigarette smoke is. “Lastly, some critics contend that banning smoking in some places just leaves smokers no choice but to do it somewhere else. They mentioned that this can even lead to increase cases of DUI fatalities since smokers might drive to other places just so they can smoke” (3).
It is estimated that 36.5 million adults smoke in the United States of America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). A cigarette contains 7,000 chemicals and 70 of those can cause cancer (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). When someone decides to smoke a cigarette, they are not only choosing to allow those toxins into their body but are imposing all those same toxins on anyone around them. Secondhand smoke is the combination of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke breathed out by smokers and is considered more dangerous then smoking the cigarette (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). Every year 480,000 people in the United States of America die because of cigarette smoking, which is the leading cause of preventable disease and death. Why has this deadly habit become such a casual part of the American life? This habit is not only harmful to the person smoking, but is hurting everyone around them. It may be their decision to smoke and cause damage to their own bodies but when they decide to smoke in public they are infringing on the rights of everyone around them right to protect their health. Smoking should be made illegal because it is not only harmful to the smokers but also causes harm to fetuses in utero, developing children and any other adults who may breathe that smoke in.
Over the past few years, the numbers of smokers around the world are constantly increasing without a break. Even though people are well equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be and what can it causes to their hearts and lungs, they still choose to smoke. Nowadays smoking becomes a trend like a social media, and especially teenagers, are participating in this as well. Although smoking makes you a person feel relaxed from the stress, it harms the body of the smokers in the long run. We have known that smoking can kill us from past 50-60 years, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are an estimated 1.3 billion smokers worldwide. This number is expected to increase to 1.7 billion by 2020. Have you ever smelled that foul scent? If you have it must be annoying, and the surprising fact is it kills you very slowly inside. Every time you smell that dirty scent, you are inhaling thousands of chemicals. Some may argue that banning smoking will create a violent and may damage the economy. However, I agree on banning smoking for plentiful reasons. The effects of smoking are extremely dangerous which can lead a smoker to death and it is not only affecting the smokers; but also endanger the life of the non-smokers by the unwanted second hand smoke, and there is no good reason to be it legal. Therefore, smoking should be banned completely.
