The country I have decided I am going to study abroad in is Italy. The five week trip begins with an arrival in Milan where I will meet the faculty who is leading the trip as well as the other students participating in the program. I have never flown before, so I’m a little nervous to be alone my first time flying, but it is one more step toward getting over my anxiety and proving to myself that I don’t need to be afraid of adventure.
Most of the trip will take place in Genova (Genoa), although there will be excursions throughout Florence, Rome, Cinque Terre, Torino, and the Alpi region, which is another reason I chose to participate in this particular study abroad program. If I am going to visit another country for five weeks, I want to be engulfed in the culture rather than just dipping my toe into the water. The fact that we will be visiting multiple cities across the country of Italy makes the trip more worthwhile, and definitely more immersive, than just visiting one or two cities.
I believe five weeks is a significant length of time for me to study abroad for many reasons. First of all, I am very close with my family, and I know I’d get home sick being away from them for any longer than that. Second of all, although I’d be fortunate enough to attend classes during my time in Italy, hence the term “study” abroad, I do still feel entitled to a summer break with my family and friends. Last but not least, I certainly don’t believe five weeks is too long of a trip. As I
Different cultures and to travel was always my biggest interest, my next goal is to learn more languages starting with Italian, and to explore new cities. That’s why I always wanted to continue my education in a new place and to be in the big apple since 4 years is a big opportunity for me not only as an education but also as (bisey bul) to have friends from different countries and learn about new cultures is one of the best knowledges that I could get to improve myself as a person. One of the best options that FIT offers is to do an exchange study in another city for a semester, which also got my attention and probably would be very excited to try this option that the school
Traveling always force ladies to dwell on their monthly menstrual cycle. It at times becomes very challenging and exasperating if you know that your periods are coming close to your traveling dates and you cannot alter or reschedule your travel dates. Because of lengthy hours of journey, frenzied traveling schedule and restricted time at the disposal could cause tiredness, frustration, which might cause menstrual period to come early or even befall irregular bleeding.
The study abroad program that I am most interested in would have to be the Semester at Sea. The program is offered in the Fall and Spring. The ship travels to over twelve countries where students are able to gain hands on field experience, and meaningful engagement in the global community. (semesteratsea.org) “Our program exposes students to cultures that most students have only read about in books. Exposure to new cultures and people of the world will give new perspectives.” (semesteratsea.org) “While in each country you will have the opportunity to participate in field labs, field programs and other actives that will help push your understanding of the world into new directions.” I am looking forward to tacking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to travel the world. I plan to participate in this program the summer of my junior year here at Bowling Green. I highly suggest Bowling Green to any student looking at colleges because of their; excellent academic programs, social opportunities, and Study Abroad
Main-Points: Italy is definitely a must-see, due to their mouthwatering cuisines, outstanding architecture, festive holidays and social gift giving etiquettes.
The last time I saw Charlie outside prison walls we were on the run. Charlie was on the run, not I, I just went along for the ride because he was my husband. Charlie was on parole, but he loved to drink his booze. In our state it's a violation to drink while on parole.
A semester is a long period of time to be removed from your normal routine. Being away from my family and friends for the first time in my life, I struggled feeling comfortable in Italy. Slowly, as I explored my new city, I found places and foods scattered around the city that made me feel like “home”; a term that I realized is flexible and does not mean where you are from, but where you live, and this semester I have learned to live in the moment.
Traveling and learning about other cultures have been an important part of my life. I am actually planning on taking a gap year between high school and college. I believe that the experiences and world perspective I will learn while my year in Italy as an exchange student will bring a unique perspective to the honors college. I also will be increasingly open to others openings, helping to create a more open learning environment, which I hope will pave the way for a success if I am admitted to the honors
However, there a select few tips that I would suggest to any student before departing from the United States. One tip is to have a comfortable pair of walking shoes for Italy. The cobblestone streets and ten mile walks can really do a number on your feet, leaving you with blisters and sore heels. Secondly, do not believe the rumor that “everyone speaks English in Italy”. This statement is not true! Italians may understand a select few words, but many do not speak English well enough to carry on a conversation. My advice is to take advantage of the Survival Italian classes at the beginning of the trip. Third, don’t be afraid to try something new! The food in Italy is incredible and there are so many dishes to try. Do not hesitate to try a strange food on the menu, you may love it! Also, do not be afraid to get some delicious American food at the Hard Rock Café. (Barberini is the stop to get off at!) My final tip is to go into the trip with an awareness that you will not know everything from the start. Italian culture is a learning process, so get out there and take advantage while you
When in Rome! I chose to pick a study abroad program because I want to explore the world. I think it is a perfect idea to get a chance to travel to another country and earn college credits. I chose Rome because that is where I think I will be more comfortable to visit while in college. It is full of culture, fashion, great cuisines, art, and many more! It has always been on my bucket list to go to Italy. It is the perfect opportunity to visit the country especially while I am in college. I remember watching Lizzie McGuire as a child and she went to Rome and impersonated an Italian pop star, Isabella. She met this handsome man who took her to tour the city. Everyone eventually realized he was using her to ruin Isabella, but it was still a happy ending for Lizzie McGuire. I wanted that happy ending it looked like so much fun running around Rome. The expenses are outstanding for the trip, but at least I have an agenda all laid out by the program.
The study Abroad Program is a unique opportunity for myself as a student at BMCC. As a Liberal Arts student and Italian Language learner, I believe and trust myself that I can make great use of this amazing language that I have put a lot of desire and commitment into.
When I decided to enroll for this course, I actually expected to watch various movies in terms of Italy, like Italian cultures, history, politics and so on, which helps me gain knowledge about Italian country. However, I was pretty astonished that this course is somehow heavy and serious, which is totally different from what I expected. Therefore, at the beginning of the class, I was quite lost because I personally have no knowledge about Italian society, so it was hard for me and felt the topic was too deep for the very first class.
Each location that I could study abroad in offers its own set of benefits, but I have chosen to study abroad in Oslo, Norway. The University of Oslo is one of the top universities in the entire world, and Norway is a beautiful country. Looking at the aspects of Norway’s culture, I think that I would really enjoy it, even though it would take some getting used to. Norway is a low context culture, so usually what Norwegians will tell me will be exactly what they mean, not
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
Italian climate is very different. It is comfortable to travel to this country in every season. If it is summer you can relax in a seaside resorts or take a rest near different lakes. Also in summer you can mountaineer. In winter it is possible to skiing. In autumn and spring you
Italy’s climate varies considerably from the north, center, and south. Northern Italy’s climate is hard with cold winters and very hot summers. Italy’s center has a milder climate, with longer summers, and less intense winters. Southern Italy has beautiful weather that hold spring and autumn temperatures all year round. Throughout Italy the terrain varies, northern Italy is mostly rugged and mountainous, and as you move south plains and coastal lowlands appear. Due to the changes in terrain, Italy has many regional natural hazard such as landslides, earthquakes, flooding and even land subsidence.
