Persuasive Essay : Why Abortion Is Wrong?

Abortion is the deliberate termination of a woman’s pregnancy before they deliver birth, in which it results the death of the fetus. Abortion has been one of the most heated debates in America for years. There are two sides of abortion, those who believe that it is a woman's constitutional right to decide, and others such as myself, who believe that abortion is unethical, and it is murder when destroying a child’s life.

It is difficult to think about all the different emotions a mother must feel after losing her baby; no matter how it happens. The abortion may have been something the mother wanted or she may have been pressured into it by others around her. No matter what the reason is, it is hard for a mother to lose something that was a part of her for nine months. She feels many different emotions due to the major hormone changes she goes through. These emotions can range from average feelings to feelings that are dangerous to the point where the mother needs professional help. According to the American pregnancy association (2007), abortion causes many side effects such as; regret, anger, guilt, shame, loneliness or isolation, impaired self confidence, insomnia or nightmares, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, depressions and anxiety (para. 3). Because the act of abortion involves the removal of the human embryo/fetus , this topic has been heatedly debated for decades to no avail. In the 1970s, the landmark case Roe v. Wade determined that state laws banning abortions (in a woman’s first trimester of pregnancy) is unconstitutional. This ruling intensified the fight between abortion opposers and defenders. Today, as President Trump takes over the reins of the United States government, with his publicized anti-abortion views and his efforts to dismantle government funded women’s health care, the topic of abortion is once again in the spotlight (not that it ever left). Permitting women’s reproduction rights to become a topic of such heated discussion (in comparison to men’s reproduction rights) implies that women are still not seen or respected as equal citizens. An unwanted pregnancy can mean a great deal of unhealthy impacts regarding mental and emotional health. As human beings, a woman should have the ability to make decisions and choices regarding her body. Due to the concept of bodily autonomy , unhealthy psychosocial effects of an unwanted pregnancy, and equal rights, abortion should be legal in the first trimester.

Abortion has been a big topic for a long time now whether it’s considered murder or not. Abortion is the process in which the woman terminates the fetus, abortion is a horrible thing it should be illegal in the United States and in any other country, it is wrong to take the life away from another human being. Not only do women suffer from health complications but they also have to deal with the psychological trauma of abortion. In a study of 500 women who had an abortion up to 10% of those women suffered from “serious psychiatric complications” (After Effects of Abortion). Studies also show that “within 8 weeks after their abortions, 55% expressed guilt, 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances and 31% had regrets about their decision.” (After Effects of Abortion).
