Students need time to relax and take their minds off school and work, this can help reduce a student's stress.

Jones believes that homework taking away social life and family times however homework does not take many times and it leaves the parents to focus on other aspects of their life. One of Jones’s claims states that homework, “away from free time that could be used for entertainment, work, or family time” when in reality the average students in elementary school students simply spending thirty minutes and high school student only spending fifty minutes doing homework per day (Ryan). This shows that students have much more time to do other activities and homework does not take away from their social life. Also, Jones argues that parents would supplement if teachers did not come home with homework but the average parent does not leave work till 7:00 PM-8:00 PM not arriving home till 7:30-8:30 PM not having much time to then add one to two hours of extra education for their children (Yau). Because, in reality, teachers do not give an enormous amount of homework and parents do not have the time to add to their child’s education, students benefit greatly from homework.

We should not have homework because it has a negative effect on home life. For example, Robert Marzano and Debra Pickering educational researchers state that, homework interferes with other home activities. With all the homework kids have, they get almost zero time to themselves, plus those kids who play sports may not have time for homework right away and are forced to do it later, right before bed. Homework makes kids feel overwhelmed to the point where they feel work is more important than family. Homework is very stressful on students, due to the fact that students may have other activities to do and may have less time to spend on homework. “Homework is frequently the source of frustration, exhaustion, family conflicts, a lack of time for kids to pursue other interests and, perhaps most disturbingly, less excitement about learning” (Akman). With too much of homework for students each night they can get worn out from it and develop a dislike from learning. Homework can be the cause of many things and with much conflict from homework students can build up more stress which can harm their health. “Empirical studies have linked excessive homework to sleep disruption, indicating a negative relationship between the amount of homework, perceived stress and physical health” (LeTendre). Too much homework for students each night can raise their anxiety levels and cause more stress for the student. When a student takes homework home they will spend less time bonding with her family and more time fretting over the busy work they are receiving. Homework is something that most kids scorn having to do. After an exhausting seven to eight hour day, it does not make much sense to give homework to a kid who is already debilitated from tedious school work. Homework can give added stress to a kid who might not have a stable home life. Kids should not get homework because most kids have other activities outside of school. As a result, it is probable that school work will interfere with sports or extracurricular activities. A recent study from health line showed that homework can overburden kids resulting in an unhealthy skyrocket in stress levels. Health line also revealed that seventy percent of the kids are always stressed about homework and fifty six percent say it is the top stress maker.

When students get home from school, they often spend most of their time doing homework, and school related stuff throughout the day. Very rarely do students have as much free time as needed out of school that would make sense. Students already give eight hours a day to school, and should not be required to put three more hours at home devoted to school. Students should not have as much homework because it affects the student as a whole.

So sometimes homework is stressful children and you don’t want that. As teachers give out so much homework there is limited time to finish work for another class or study for another class.
