Sugary beverages suggest a poor dietary quality; they are loaded with added sugars and attribute to the body’s energy density. “A 20-year study on 120,000 men and women found that people who increased their sugary drink consumption by one 12-ounce serving per day gained more weight over time—about 4 pounds per year” (19). Through increasing the daily intake in trivial increments, the body substantially results in an increased BMI (body mass index) and an increased body fat percentage score. Another study conducted at Harvard found that a 60 percent increase occurs in children for each 12-ounce they additionally drink daily. (________) The growing correlation between obesity and sugar has led to further studies, and statistical data. Researchers have revealed that in total, “half the people in the U.S. consume sugary drinks; 1 in 4 get at least 200 calories from such drinks; and 5% get at least 567 calories.” It was additionally found that one-fourth of Americans are consuming more than 135 grams of sugar per day from soda and other sweetened beverages, which compares to people of the past who only had 10 grams of fructose a day (_____). Such a high daily intake of sugar and calories illustrates the risk that arises when people consume too much sugar; that is, sugary drinks result in weight issues and medical consequences.
The first thought that most likely comes to mind is, ¨how could a beverage hurt or have such an effect on you?¨ The answer lies in the text of Russ Lloyd’s article in Scope magazine, ¨Putting warning labels on sugary drinks would save lives¨. In the text, the author addresses side effects that soda has and could have on a person, mentioning serious problems
A single can of soda can have at least ten teaspoons of sugar, that is already the daily maximum recommended intake. Sugar can increase cholesterol levels, heart disease, diabetes and weight gain.Moreover. The obesity is a colossal problem in America. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 35.9% of U.S. adults over the age of twenty are obese (CDC, 2013). The CDC also notes that 69.2% of U.S. adults twenty years of age and over are overweight. The obesity problem does not only affect adults in the U.S. The CDC notes that 18.4% of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 are currently obese (CDC, 2013). These numbers show the harshness of the obesity problem in this
Today, research asserts soda is one of the leading causes of poor health outcomes in the United States. People define soda as carbonated beverages, or soft drinks, or fizzy drinks. A significant relationship exists between the consumption of carbonated drinks and obesity, type 2 diabetes and dental caries in the United States (Gollust et al., 52). Tax on soda is considered as a government’s intervention to regulate the consumption of these kinds of drinks. In fact, soda should be taxed in the United States because it discourages the consumption of soda, makes people healthier, and raises government funds.
Have you ever had a sip of soda and thought it could be dangerous? Probably not. You are probably thinking how nice and sweet it tastes. You are actually sending a whole lot of sugar to your liver. I created this scene to show that soda can be dangerous and putting labels on the drink can save hundreds of lives. If you put warning labels on soda and it says it can cause headaches, tiredness, diabetes, and even a heart attack people will consume less soda. People should have a right to know what the drink can do to your body. My three reasons are it could save lives, sugar is already a big part of our society, and warning labels decreased smoking.
For: I know seems kind of bad now. But you'll be healthier and if you really want to drink soda, drink juice or water instead. They won’t be taxing it.
Imagine that you saw the inside of your body just after you drank a can of soda. It is not pleasant. Soda is a sugary drink that a lot of people and kids love to drink when they have people over for an occasion. It is also offered at restaurants and other stores for people to get and buy. Soda and other sugary drinks should not be permitted in schools. Although soda is not healthy for you, it tastes delightful and pleasurable. Soda shouldn’t be allowed in schools because they are bad for your body and can damage the insides of your body, and soda can make you become obese and large.
In conclusion, there is nothing healthy about diet soda and it is simply water with artificial sweeteners and other additives, especially phosphoric acid. So the less soda you drink, the better. In addition, people should not keep sodas in their home such as refrigerator because it is a big temptation. Instead, people can put healthier options include fresh juice, low fat milk, green tea, hot chocolate, and ginger tea. Moreover, people should drink more water instead of reaching for diet soda. Liquid helps human’s body get rid of toxins that can cause a big risk for diseases like cancer. As you know, water has zero calories so it is one of the healthiest ways for people to stay hydrated. According to my research, people should drink at least
When a person is deciding what to eat and drink, they must always look at how it will affect them, regardless of how good it tastes. Every food is filled with things that are good and bad. Soft drinks are the most consumed beverage in the world today. Unfortunately, soft drinks are extremely toxic. Whether soft drinks satisfy thirst and taste good, this should not be a good enough reason to drink it. We should all do our bodies a favor and stop drinking soda.
By ditching soda, coffee and other caffeine filled drinks though, they are making their body much healthier. Plus, many healthy drinks you can have include water, and fresh real fruit juices. There tastier and healthier.
When your taste buds scream for a sweet and cold drink, most people turn to soda for the remedy. Soda is involved in so many happy memories like at the holidays, parties, weddings, and even people’s houses. Unknowingly, you were causing havoc on your body with each sip. Soda can lead to problems all throughout your body like weight gain, diabetes, heart attacks, cancers and other chronic illnesses. The best thing you could do for yourself is stay away from it.
Anyone who knows me personally, knows I drink a lot of soda. When I go to restaurant the first thing I ask for is a Dr. Pepper. When I’m having a bad day the first thing I do to try and make it better is grab a can of soda. Drinking soda is bad habit of mine, and I’m well aware of it. It’s just my drinking soda isn’t that bad, it could be a lot worse. Nothing brings me more comfort on a stressful day as the first bubbly drink of an ice cold Dr. Pepper. This is what I thought before the start of spring semester my junior year of college. Little did I know that I would be taking a class that require I give it up.
Even though soda tastes pleasant to many people, today’s generation should reduce the consumption of soda due to its harmful qualities. Sodas, like Coca-Cola and Sprite, contains numerous grams of sugar per can. To put the amount of sugar in perspective, sugarstacks.com claims that a can of Coca-Cola contains as much sugar as ten regular sugar cubes(sugarstacks.com). Furthermore, webmd.com states that the consumption of sugar triggers the “pleasure center” in the brain, resulting in one craving and downing more soda which ultimately means consuming more sugar (Smith). Sure, the body requires sugar daily, but most average first-world citizens already consume an abundance of sugar through his or her everyday meals, making soda’s sugar energy
These days, more and more people are paying closer attention to the food and drink they put in their bodies—and for good reason! After all, your diet has one of the biggest influences on your health and fitness, both now and in the years to come. For this reason, more soda vending machine companies have seen to include healthy options in their machines. As Buffalo Rock Company in Dothan, AL, explains, there are several good reasons to include these items:
To achieve overall better health you will need to limit your soda consumption. It is necessary.
