I chose pharmacy as a career because of the passion I have towards medicine and helping others. I vision being able to create the drugs needed to save others and researching new drugs to end current diseases as my ideal future. It is a career I respect and stems from my obsession with nutrition and healthy living. This obsession with living a healthy lifestyle resulted from my wrestling career as I always tried to be at my absolute physical peak for competitions. Knowing what I eat and regulating the amount eventually lead to being fascinated by the drugs I took to heal my various injuries (such as ringworm, sprained ankles, and damaged knees). That fascination with medicine coupled with my high affinity with chemistry is why I saw pharmacy as my ideal career. I always knew I wanted to work in the health …show more content…
One lab dealt with TB drug analysis in patient strip plasma using HLPC systems and an extraction method assay. The other lab focused on gene therapy with somatostatin in kindled rats to see if it has a therapeutic effect on seizures. These two labs showed me just how vastly different pharmacy careers can be when compared to the traditional clinical or retail pharmacist. That is one of the main draws to pharmacy that intrigues me, the sheer quantity of career options available. I want a career with branching options that hold their own little world, yet still remains connected to each other. It is a career where I set all of my drive on and I know it will help me grow more. After obtaining a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree I plan to apply for residency at a hospital close to where I graduated or enter retail first if the amount of debt I’ve accumulated is too high. I know that I will need actual work experience as a pharmacist before I can work in a clinical setting, but there are many routes open to achieve that such as fellowships at CVS or

From there, I began to explore more of what a career in pharmacy would mean and take the steps necessary to pursue my dream. As I reflect on the past and look forward, becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy is still the clear answer to achieving both my immediate and long-term goals. My immediate goal is to work towards additional education to be better equipped to utilize my undergraduate degree. In particular, I have a strong interest in applying my knowledge of biochemistry to the area of pharmacy in order to better understand how different medications work, how to help patients understand their medications, and how to solve problems to better care for patients. Ultimately, through achieving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, I desire to develop a meaningful career that would allow for life-long learning and impacting lives.
Studying at the West-Mec Pharmacy Technician program will eventually help me reach my long term goal of becoming a hospital pharmacist. This program will give me the benefit of hands-on training and will teach me the necessary skills that are required for a pharmacy technician. I want to have a career as a pharmacist in the future and I understand that becoming a pharmacy technician is not required, but it is a huge benefit. Pharmacists dispense medication and other remedies. They need to understand the importance of doses, allergens and other chemical reactions that may cause harm to the patients. Because of this, pharmacists are important to the medical field. I chose a pharmacist as my career because I want to ensure that my patients
Over the past century the practice of pharmacy has evolved from a field with few specialties typically focused on compounding and filling prescriptions to modern pharmacy practice which has many different specialties. Due to the many opportunities in the field of pharmacy one assignment I completed was the APhA Career Pathway Evaluation Program to see which specialties I hay have the most interest in based on a series of questions I answered. In the following paper, I will list and discuss these results, point out some of the positive and negative attributes to each career choice, and will make an assessment on which careers may be the best form me and some of the options I disagree with.
When most people hear Pharmacist, they think of a drug store like Walgreens or CVS. However, a Pharmacist is capable of more than just working in a drug store. When I was in high school, I had a mentor ask me, “What career would you like to have when you graduate”? Those words still lingering in my head until this day and to be honest I really didn’t know what answer to give him because I was still unsure. He then chose to put it in my mind that Pharmacy Technicians are important and they are needed just about every day. I took it upon myself to do some research. In 2010, I read that in 2009, there were approximately 267,000 pharmacists and, in 2008, 326,300 pharmacy technicians. Between 2003 and 2009, the number of pharmacists in the workforce increased by 35,000.
Even though this would be an interesting career it seems the need for future pharmacists is on the low side. The income averages $121,500 yearly which is lower than my other choice. To work in this field takes a dependable person with care and concern for the well being of others. I would have to be able to work under stress without being distracted. In dealing with medications, mistakes could be costly so complete attentiveness is mandatory.
Throughout my life, I have always strived to improve not only the lives of people around me, but to enhance society as a whole. Living in the community of the Gulf Coast has provided me with the opportunity to put my passion of helping others into action. Even though I am attending the University of Mississippi this upcoming fall and will be emerged into unfamiliar territory, I will use my basic values and passions to continue serving my hometown and college community even after I graduate.
Pharmacologist is a scientist, primarily occupied with research, although teaching medical students is often a part of the job description. A pharmacologist works or has experience working in a laboratory performing research.
As a junior in High School, working in a pharmacy would be a new experience for me, but I have never let the fear of the unknown prevent me from pursuing what I am passionate about. I would love to become a pharmacist one day because I want a career that will enable me to help others. Having the knowledge that I will be making the necessary medications to help people feel better will give me a tremendous amount of satisfaction in my
I made this choice because I had always been interested in how Biology, Chemistry and Physics tie in with each other. In my studies I have enjoyed learning about the inner and outer workings of the many cycles and pathways occurring in the body. One class that I enjoyed in particular was Nucleic Acids, which opened me to the importance of genomic studies and the possible applications in treating genetic related diseases. Another course that has greatly influenced me was Cancer Biochemistry. This course reinforced my knowledge of the cycles and pathways occurring in the body and introduced the errors that can occur in these processes leading to cancer. Pharmacy requires a strong knowledge of natural sciences and I feel that my studies in biochemistry have given me a foundation to build upon. In addition to obtaining a B.S in Biochemistry, I will also be obtaining a minor in Business Foundations. This minor has provided me with the basic knowledge of business. Pharmacy requires knowledge of business, which is evident in Community Pharmacies. With that in mind, having a basic understanding of business provides knowledge that is needed in Pharmacy. While in school, grew interest in research and so I joined a lab. Working in a lab gave me important research skills moving forward. Pharmacy is a field that also requires much research, and the skills I have acquired from working in a lab should prove to be useful. The knowledge and experience I gained from school have provided me with knowledge and skills that will help me in pharmacy
On August 21, 2012, I attended a career panel conference presented by professional pharmacists. I was surprised by sheer number of different types of professional opportunities available in the pharmacy profession in the United States. By comparison, in my native country,___________, pharmacists provide mainly one function with little variation. Some of those, such as home infusion pharmacy, were specialties that I had never heard of before. Some of the options available to pharmacists in the U.S. include faculty teaching positions at pharmacy colleges, clinical pharmacist, in-patient pharmacist, out-patient pharmacist, compounding pharmacist, and pharmacy resident.
The facts on pages 398-400 relates to me and the career that I envision after graduation because of the differences within a health care field that is a melting pot. What I mean by melting pot, I mean by the different culture, background, and ethnicities that shares a common goal. While working with people and building relationships with them, it helps to have some perspectives and understanding of their culture. In order to work in rural communities, we need to have understanding of people cultures, build strong alliances, and learn how to effectively communicate with one another. The career I chose which was pharmacy, deals with many different cultures from the people I would be working with to the patients I would be dealing with. I must
They provide advice and information about medication brands, side effects on drugs, and medical equipment. Also pharmacists order and buy medical items and drugs to maintain stock and handle it correctly. Next, pharmacists have to work with other health care specialists to analyze, plan, and check the qualities of the drug to determine the efficiency of the drug. Lastly, they have keep records about their patients, pharmacy, and inventories.
The career that I am interested in pursuing is a Pharmacists. The number one reason I have decided to become a pharmacist is because I want to help and assist others. The satisfaction of me helping a patient get better quickly is the motivation that drives me. The second reason is the act of working with other health care professionals. Pharmacist have to communicate with other professionals as a team to avoid errors. Communication and connection is a major key in today’s society, in which I like with a passion. The big career dream began when my older cousin sister became the first in the family to graduate from college with a college degree. Her getting a well-paying job and taking care of my aunt and uncle led me to work hard and achieve pharmacy just like her. HCC will help me pursue my goals by helping me get high grades and achieve a high GPA. By me getting an Associates in Science I would then transfer to a big university like University of Houston to continue for higher education.
