After its establishment by Tony Romero, Western Pharmaceuticals goes through several changes including the expansion of its offering. The firm increased its offerings at the hands of Rudy while moving out of Los Angeles. Both Rudy and George ensured that the firm grew by increasing its volume of operations and even diversifying its offerings. In George’s leadership, the firm acquired Atlantic Medical to add to its already enormous size. The move proved fruitful because apart from ensuring that the firm moved into the cold remedy offerings, it provided an opportunity for the firm to use the distribution centers owned by Atlantic Medical. The move to increase the volume of operations meant that Western Pharmaceuticals needed to augment its distribution channels. The new firm, United Pharmaceuticals is presently huge with several manufacturing and distribution centers. In addition, the firm offers a choice of six products. To ensure organization and low costs of operations, the firm uses only one distribution center per state. This system would make it easier to manage every distribution. However, the case of inventory is still a problem because of lack of clear information. The firm needs to refine its inventory management system to ensure that its operations run smoothly.

The company that our group has partnered with for this project is CVS Pharmacies. We looked into this company to see if there were any areas for improvement within the organization that would have an impact on external customers. Within this define stage is when we did exactly that, we defined the problem. One problem that we found within the CVS Pharmacy, that would be easy enough to handle given the scope of the project, concerned the stores current inventory (overstock, backstock) system. It seemed that currently there was no formalized process with regard to placing items in overstock, resulting in an unorganized and unconventional overstock area. This created a problem because it made it harder
In the discharge pharmacy, they receive calls all day long from nurses asking where the medication and when it can be expected to be delivered. The calls from nurses are symptoms of an inefficient system that does not allow medication orders to be tracked. Medication tracking system eliminates the need for replacing lost or late medication and decreases pharmacy and nursing time searching for medication by knowing when the medications left the pharmacy and where it was delivered, it can also help identify the last person to handle of medication to eliminate diversion.

The Drugstore retail industry is a $31.4 Billion industry across Canada and continues to grow steadily (Industry Canada, 2015). There are many competitors in the drugstore retail market in Canada both small and large. With the entrance of large American companies such as Walmart and even their very own parent company Loblaw’s, Shoppers has been forced to be at the top of their game to stay ahead in the drug retail market. The implementation of a produce section in select locations across Canada is one of the many ways that shoppers has been adapting to this competitive industry. Due to this adaptation, the company has opened itself to a whole new group of competitors from convenience store to grocery stores. Shoppers Drug Mart tackles this competition by differentiating itself in the market by offering “prestige products” (Kwon, N. 2013) and convenience that competitors do not offer. (Our Company, 2015)
Everything has a life expectancy, food, water, medicines, and even equipment and gear. Even if you have a substantial stockpile the work is not done, because now you have to make sure all food is edible, medicines are safe to take, and all gear and equipment is serviceable.
