As I contemplated my future career path, I was drawn to my interests in the sciences and the desire to help others. Throughout my high school career I had an avid interest in the sciences and always excelled in these classes. My passion for this field further developed once I began to take my college science courses in biology and chemistry. I found that I was excited to learn new material and I truly enjoyed exploring the sciences. This passion for learning has never ma-terialized to that extent in any other area of study that i have engaged in, reinforcing again how this path is right for me. My mother has a career in the health care field and she often shares her incredible experiences of patient care. The satisfaction of helping patients that my mother often gets is something I would truly strive for. …show more content…
Though there are many options in the medical field, I chose pharmacy because it is a non intrusive way to directly make a patient feel better with medicine. Pharmacy is an ever-progressing, stable field filled with highly respected members of the community that contribute to the field of health care. I want to be a leader in my community that is trusted with the health of the people. I know that I will enjoy working directly with patients and developing into an accessible and trusted re-source. I understand that the Doctorate of Pharmacy path is strenuous, but I believe that I am ready for the challenge. I have proven this to myself by completing my freshman year of college with a 3.59 gpa for which I am very proud and plan to work hard to improve even further. I am now confident in my work and study habits and I feel that I am ready to take on a new academic challenge. My goal is to make an impact on the patients in the community and a career in phar-macy will provide me with the means to do
From there, I began to explore more of what a career in pharmacy would mean and take the steps necessary to pursue my dream. As I reflect on the past and look forward, becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy is still the clear answer to achieving both my immediate and long-term goals. My immediate goal is to work towards additional education to be better equipped to utilize my undergraduate degree. In particular, I have a strong interest in applying my knowledge of biochemistry to the area of pharmacy in order to better understand how different medications work, how to help patients understand their medications, and how to solve problems to better care for patients. Ultimately, through achieving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, I desire to develop a meaningful career that would allow for life-long learning and impacting lives.
Healthcare abounds with occupations dedicated to serving a variety of populations. Each profession has distinct qualities that warrant specific talents. My mother exemplified the characteristics of a successful Registered Nurse as I was growing up. Although I greatly admire her profession I knew early on that I would not follow the same path. My initial career goal was marriage and family therapy.
I became captivated by the opportunity to apply my knowledge of the biological and chemical sciences in a way that one day may save a life. Though my interest stems from my experiences, my passion to pursue this field lies elsewhere. Growing up in a family of low socioeconomic status in an area with few sources of acceptable health care, I saw my parents struggle as they aged to provide my siblings and I with a proper education. There were times they would ignore their own illness in order to save funds for an emergency for us. Observing this, I knew that no matter how difficult of a path I picked, regardless if it was pharmaceutical sciences or the medical field, my parents had concurred greater difficulties. Growing under such conditions, I began to realize the disparities in quality of treatments my parents received compared to those who of a higher socioeconomic status. This motivated me to pursue a career where I would be given the chance to offer care to individuals through unbiased views. Of course, there are a plethora of careers that can fulfill this but medicine has presented itself as very unique to me. It promises a lifestyle devoted to empathetic patient care, direct patient interaction, and a boundless opportunity to learn and experience something new. As the end of my undergraduate experience is forthcoming, I look forward to taking on the next phase of my life, endeavoring to join the ranks of tomorrow’s
My strongest impetus for the study of this major is pegged on the personal urge to improve the lives and health of those around me. I would only be able to serve the health of others when I am fully acquainted with the knowledge of pharmacy, which to me is one of the noblest professions. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of others. My experiences, especially as I visit hospitals form a significant part in influencing my choice to study pharmacy. At one point, I felt very bad when a pharmacist in a hospital I had visited was very indolent in serving a patient. All human beings would feel adored and valued when they are given appropriate attention in regard to their health. The health profession has a mission geared towards safeguarding people's health and that mission is perfectly in sync with my desires. I want to be exceptional, to do my best in caring for people, and attend to their interest to the best of my knowledge. I admire nourishing hope to desolate patients and always give them a reason to
Having worked for two years in a retail pharmacy I have seen the need and importance of pharmaceutical at a community level first hand. This experience has inspired to explore deeper in to the pharmaceutical world. Therefore, I hope to participate in the research field, whether that be in the field of chemotherapeutics or psychological therapeutics.
I believe I am qualified to receive TSHP scholarship because I am exceptionally motivated in my pursuit of pharmacy as a career. As a high school student, I shadowed pharmacists at a local retail pharmacy and earned my pharmacy technician license when I was eighteen. From this experience, I learned how vital pharmacist are to patient health by often being a patient’s first point of contact with a health care professional. Seeing the significant positive impact pharmacists can have on patient health motivated me to pursue pharmacy as a career. The prospect of pharmacy school in high school and undergraduate kept me focused and driven enough to earn acceptance into pharmacy school after just two years of university. By joining
My Butler University academic training and intern experience has positioned me to recognize and appreciate the essential role performed by the clinical pharmacist. Although sometimes transparent, it is the clinical pharmacist that is central to a patient’s ultimate successful recovery. This was evident during my clinical rotations, where I directly participated in the optimization of medication therapy to achieve patient-specific outcomes; it is for this reason I am impassioned and compelled to pursue a residency. As a PGY-1 resident, I plan to apply my clinical knowledge in the acute and ambulatory care settings to identify medication-related problems and make therapeutic recommendations in collaboration with other practitioners. Upon completion
During my diverse 22 year clinical pharmacist career, I have continually focused on being patient-centered whether working in hospital or retail. My goal has been to exceed expectations and to adopt a servant-leader philosophy early in my career. From my experience, I believe superior patient outcomes are achieved by utilizing all disciplines of the healthcare team. Belief in this concept has brought about success in clinical hospital pharmacy during my 22 year career. Through the medical center based "Pharmacist on the Nursing Unit Program" that I was fortunate enough to initiate, these goals were achieved. I feel that my management certificate, excellent writing and communication skills, professionalism and pride in pharmacy; and consensus
In my family, everyone's dreams is to be in the medical field. However, I was not interested in pursuing it. I did not want to be forced to do something that I was not absorbed. This view did not change until summer of 2012. During summer, a teacher introduced me to a show, Fullmetal Alchemist, where they showed how doctors and alchemists help save people’s lives every day. This film inspired me to become someone that can help the community. So, I decided to become a pharmacist, making medicine for people, and helping me change my perspective the medical
I am a highly self-motivated Nigerian young man who cherishes high academic ambitions, possesses outstanding foundational pharmacy knowledge, and is determined to work harder to make even more proud achievements. My passion in life is to contribute to the advancement of Pharmacy; the academic discipline that is inextricably connected with human life and human welfare, I have always been fascinated by this subject, bent on making my own contributions to the improvement of the quality of human life.
I was introduced to the idea of becoming a pharmacist in Project Lead the Way where the Human Body Systems class had a focused section on understanding prescriptions. As a result, pharmaceutical coursework started appealing to me, especially since it involves chemistry. As I started considering Pharmacy as my career, I decided to job shadow a pharmacist at St. Luke’s Hospital. I was introduced to Pharmacist Huey, who was very helpful in answering my endless questions and even involved me in some pharmaceutical practices, previewing what I have to look forward to in this career. However, the moment I was positive about my future was after my experience in Kurdistan. I realized pharmacy will expose me to incredible and different opportunities, like dispensing medication to improve others’ health. I want to have a significant impact in my local community where I would be working alongside healthcare professionals and in my global community with diverse patients when I travel. I want to travel to developing countries where people might not have proper medications because I will be able to provide better for those who have very
While working as a pharmacy technician for three summers, I gained valuable job experience. During my retail experience I learned critical skills involving filling prescriptions, working with computer software, and serving customers. Also, I was able to spend some time as a technician in the compounding section of the pharmacy. Learning the basics of compounding will prove extremely helpful, with medical compounding on the rise. My work experience allowed me to develop communication skills with customers and coworkers. Throughout this experience my heart began to grow, not only for the every day aspects of pharmacy life, but also for my time spent with customers. With a career in pharmacy I can practice the sciences I have become attached to, while serving the public on a personal level.
One thing I know for certain is that I will do everything I can to continue growing and become an important component in the ever-changing realm of pharmacy. I began working as a pharmacy technician in June 2015, and since then I have grown increasingly excited as the tools to advance my career continue to come within my reach. Whether my place will be as a pharmacist or as a researcher has been an internal debate I am yet to settle, but I know with certainty that pharmacy school will provide me with the tools and knowledge I need to become who I’m destined to
Growing up, I encountered many health complications. I got transferred to many kinds of doctors to treat my many illnesses. The frustration of transferring to multiple offices and repeating the process of entering all the patient information and relaying my health problems to the doctors was inevitable. That sparked my interest to work in the healthcare field to become a doctor. However, when I reached college, I learned about careers working behind the scenes, improving the process of care.
It is with great excitement and tenacity and with a proclivity toward hard work that I make application to the Doctorate in Pharmacy program. Upon reflecting as to what has led me to continue my endeavor to become a licensed Pharmacist, I am guided by the underlying biblical principle, which has been and will continue to be such a personal and important part of my life. One of the scriptures that has guided my way of life is found in 1 Corinthians 16:14: "Let all that you do be done in love". Living my life with this and other similar principles in mind have led me to want to help others and to assist them as they deal with trying and sometimes difficult circumstances relating to illnesses and diseases, potential treatments, and understanding
