I see Phoenix Multisport as a good program for individuals who would like to recovery. I think that it is great that members have full access to the resources that Phoenix Multisport provides. I think being in a group helps members during the process of recover. Associating with others who are going through the same situation can be a good support system for the members. You are surrounded with people who understand you as a person and the struggles that the individuals may be facing. But only having physical activities is not enough. There needs to be a clinically based treatment services provided to patients that meets the needs of not only a substance use disorder but a co-occuring disorder as well. The video does provide good information
The members found tremendous strength in the group. I could feel the importance of the community, the no-judgment zone, and sharing their story with peers. The meeting promoted empathy and allowed people to feel supported and understood in their struggle with alcoholism. More importantly, the meetings show them that they are not alone. They could talk about their actions under the influence to others that truly understood
Despite the higher cost, a high-end substance abuse treatment center does not constitute better treatment. The support of therapists, counselors, family, friends, and peers can all be important factors in the recovery process. The most significant factor for an individual in the recovery process is a desire and a willingness to change. Many options exist for individuals that want to recover from addiction. These options include substance abuse rehabilitation centers and support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery. These programs all have the same goal but use different techniques that at times even contradict other programs. Although the approach of the programs may vary, they have all been proven to work for certain
Not every addict should be treated the same. The regimen should address all of the aspects of an individual's life, including medical and mental health and follow up options. Behavioral Treatments help patients modify their attitudes and behaviors and increase healthy lifestyle skills and options. They can enhance the effectiveness of medication and help addicts stay committed to the treatment process. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a behavioral treatment with the goal of helping the user recognize, avoid, and cope with anything and everything involving their drug use and recovery (Davison, 2007). Therapeutic communities can also be extremely effective, especially for those who are severely addicted. They are highly structured programs that often involve residency for up to 12 months. It is important to recognize that no single treatment is appropriate for all individuals addicted to drugs (National, 2005).
The recovery program is comprised of four phases. The first phase of the program referred to as SOS or “Safe off the Street” offers an environment for the client to become drug and alcohol free, commit to a plan of recovery and determine whether or not he wants to change. Clients move from the SOS phase into the Motivational Tracks where they focus on the first two steps of the twelve step program. During this phase clients are required to walk to classes that are held at off campus locations. This is referred to as “trudging” which shows their commitment to recovery mimicking the same commitment they had for their addiction. During this phase clients
MET is based on the principles of motivational interviewing. It draws self-motivational statements early on in early discussion and plan for change is built on that. This approach engages the addict in building the plan. Based on their own motivations as oppose to societal. People who cannot follow like 12 –steps may benefit from this therapy. Enlightenment can only occur if an individual wants to learn and MET is centered on this insight. Using peoples own statements about desired better outcomes initial resistance is countered after this is achieved an introduction of behavioral techniques can be introduced to support and individual’s ability to fend for him/herself. MET is often used with other cognitive behavioral approaches. MET could go a long way in offering insights for those effective by many mental illness. With this therapy one can heal from other associated problems like anxiety and depression for life style change (The Ranch, 2014).
The program is conducted around shared experiences, strength and hope, through individuals who are recovering from their addictions.
Our facility in (location) has a strong reputation for successfully helping patients regain their footing in life, allowing them to go on to live happy and productive lives. Even just being there, listening to others peoples story will still make a difference in their life. An additional issue that these people face is hitting rock bottom where they have lost everything in life like, friends, family and themselves. One person went through this dramatic realization that alcohol was ruining his life where at one point he lost his house, wife and became homeless. The leader of the AA meeting gave him a chance to get his life together and make him get his life before alcoholism became his happiness. He admitted and accepted that he was an alcoholic and he told us that the AA meetings have turned his life around. Another issue is trying other drugs that cause a synergistic effect that may result them to relapse. I heard one of the patients stating that when they had the urge to drink or try drugs that they would call their fellow members from the group meeting to get support, to help them fight the urge to pick up a
This program consists of following a set of recovery steps, which will help one achieve abstinence of alcohol. One can also get a sponsor, which will help guide them through all the steps. The program is completely free the only requirement is the desire to stop drinking. As nurses or any health care provider I think it is our duty to provide this type of information and to help educate others on how the program helps maintain sobriety. It’s important for a nurse to provide support with their client through this journey and also to their family and friends. Nurses need to provide encouragement and explain that this is a process that will take time and not happen
Behavioral Healthcare professionals are likely to encounter individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs). These are highly prevalent and often co-occur with Mental Health Disorders. SUDs affect vital areas of life, such as physical, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Recovery from addiction is a long a road with highs and lows, however having a strong support system makes facing these challenges manageable. Addiction support groups gives the person a safe place to discuss these challenges while maintaining sobriety. They offer invaluable education, guidance, and the encouragement the patient needs to succeed in living a healthier lifestyle.
The researchers found that drinkers with a social support system with persons attending AA meetings had better out comes than those who were just encouraged to give up drinking. Interestingly, Alcohol dependent clients who were angry at the beginning of treatment and those who had a relatively high drinking dependence benefited more from TSF than MET or CBT (Galanter, Kleber, & Brady, 2014). MAAEZ approached the use of TSF as supporting the attendance of AA but is not intended as a summary of AA. Since the goal of MAAEZ is to engage participants in 12- step culture, the focus for TSF was on activities such as sponsoring, reading literature, attending meetings, doing service, comfort speaking and comfort being at meetings (Subbaraman, Kaskutas, & Zemore, 2010). Having support for sobriety is especially important for those with high prior AA and those with high psychological severity (Subbaraman, Kaskutas, & Zemore, 2010). Additionally, active elements of 12-step involvement, especially doing service, consistent meeting attendance, and sponsorship and connecting people with other AA members was important in success (Zemore, Subbaraman, & Tonigan, 2013; Wells, et. al,
While doing research on this community, it became apparent that the public has access to many different social services that have helped the residents achieve wellness (Abra et al., 2016), including Edgewood Health Network, a rehabilitation centre for addictions and mental health. However, there is no support for people who are currently active drug users or have relapsed (Edgewood Health Network, n.d). Studies have shown that relapsed users have an increased risk of
First, I have noticed how young all of the participants are, most of them barely reaching the age of 21. There were roughly 15 people, 2/3 were females. I could not believe when I first arrived that they were there because they were having an addiction. Moreover, the atmosphere of the group was welcoming, and half of the group seemed cheerful and healthy, the other half seemed melancholic and attentive.
The Phoenix Rescue Mission has been in operation since 1952 and was originally called the Phoenix Gospel Mission (phoenixrescuemission.org, n.d.). It began as a way to ease the burdens of the destitute and the working poor and started with a few sandwiches offered to those in need following religious services. It grew steadily over the years and today the operation is spread out over three campuses. The Phoenix Rescue Mission operates primarily through donations and without any government funding (phoenixrescuemission.org, n.d.). It operates under the premise that all persons have value to God. They seek to engage community members to come together in the effort to end hunger and homelessness (phoenixrescuemission.org, n.d.).
Therapies: They are programs designed for offering patients with counseling treatment as a result of their addicts on drugs in the community. “Most of the programs involve individual or group drug counseling, or both,” (Treatment Approaches For Drug Addiction ). The therapies have been of great importance as they offer
