Currently, my educational goals are to earn my majors in Commercial Photography and Secondary Education. I feel that this scholarship will help me to achieve my academic desires by giving me the ability to purchase the equipment and tools I need, but cannot afford. However, though the purpose of this money is to help me get through my schooling, it will help me to reach my aspirations for happiness. To me, photography means more than self-obsession. It is a representation of a moment in time that captures the essence of what the day and age is about. From opinions to documentation, all pictures hold the secrets to the world before our own and to the world beyond. And because I hold these unlimited passions towards photography, I have the yearning …show more content…
The one I remember distinctively is the day I started to learn about cameras. Every once in a while, my grandfather would pull out all of his film cameras to repair and look into models he planned to obtain one day. On this day, he walked away from his cameras. When he returned, he found me holding one of the cameras in amazement. Scared, I put the camera down and awaited a scolding. To my surprise, my grandfather sat me next to him and started to explain cameras to me the best he could. From that point on, my grandfather would always show me his cameras and his favorite techniques. Even now, despite the fact I know much about the subject, he still shows me his cameras as if I was still a toddler. Right now, he is currently allowing me to borrow a camera, tripod, and a SD card because I cannot afford my own. I am grateful to him for the wonders of the visual world he has taught me. He is not the ordinary camera enthusiast. The visual world means the world to him because that is all he has known since birth. To learn a skill is an opportunity, but to learn it from someone that lives it, is the opportunity of a lifetime. I also admire him because of the obstacles he has gone through in his life. As a whole, most would look at him and tell him that he is incapable because he cannot hear. However, he has proven them wrong by doing more than most have ever done. Though deaf, he possess great talent. He is intelligent and hardworking, yet he was not given the opportunity to attend college because he lived in a day and age where the deaf were seen as disabled and incapable. An example of his intelligence is when he was able to pass the test for the United States Postal Service with flying colors. Though my grandfather plays an extremely large role in who I aspire to become, there is another individual that has taught me that happiness does not derive from strictly the things that have been achieved
For my graduation project I want to experience and gain knowledge on makeup artistry. I want to go into the makeup industry because it's something that has always intrigued me. I enjoy doing my makeup and i’ve been wanting to experience the environment a makeup artist is in. I hope to by choosing this career to do as my project i will further my understandings on makeup.
The intent of this scholarship is for financial need. Recently my step dad has change jobs which has cut his income significantly. This scholarship would really help paying for college, since I will also have 2 other siblings in college at the same time as me. I will be furthering my academic education at California Baptist University and will majoring in photography. Attending Cal Baptist will give me the best education as well as provide me with a Christian education. It is very important to me that I will have a Christian education and that I will be surrounded by a family like community. Some of my goals for the future are to become a photographer, learn to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself, and get an internship over one
Ever since my parents bought me my first camera, I’ve been hopelessly attached to it. Film was always something that intrigued me, and I spent most of middle school with a camera in my hand. That didn’t end when high school began. As I furthered my knowledge of film and photography throughout school, I found more opportunities to create something bigger than myself. Using my passion for film and photography, I aided with Tri-M Music Honors Societies community outreaches and events. I have been involved with Tri-M for three years and have held two officer positions, currently being the President. This organization helped me to decide my career path by giving me opportunities to create advertisements and analyze marketing strategies on a small
I found out that my maternal grandpa was on the Special Olympic volleyball team and in 2015, he was put into the Hall of Fame for it. My grandpa is completely deaf but he wasn’t always that way. He grew up partially deaf but never accepted that lifestyle. He told me that he attended deaf schools but didn’t like them because he didn’t feel normal. He wanted to be treated the same way as everyone else plus he already had friends in high school. During his teen years, he was with a friend diving at a harbor. He already knew that deep depths underwater hurt his ears. He continued to go deeper until he heard a loud pop in his ears which would turn out to be the last sound he would ever hear. He swam up, turned to his friend and asked him why he was looking at him funny. His friend was trying to tell him that his ears were bleeding. I never appreciated things like that until now. To this day, my grandpa still sings “hound dog” by Elvis Presley in the shower. Sad but a beautiful thing that music can
This photo journal assignment was very interesting and educational. It helped me look outside the box and to really relate geography to my everyday life. My first relatable topic that I came in contact with during this assignment was the process of evaporation. At Dry Creek park in Modesto, CA, I witnessed evaporation taking place in the creek. I have been going to this park for quite some time and in the summer, water levels decrease drastically. Evaporation is one of the four phases in the hydrologic cycle (water cycle). According to our Geosystems Eighth Edition book, Christopherson say, “Water travels endlessly through the hydrosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. [...] Currents of water, vapor, ice and energy are flowing
Student debt is what the School of Visual Arts students’ nightmares are made of. Like many students at SVA, I have had to take out loans on top of the loans the Financial Aid department has offered me and my parents are limited to how much financially they can help me. I hope to be considered for the Photography and Video Department Awards with a review of my work, as well as, the following academic achievements and contributions I have made in my three years at SVA:
During high school, photography was not only my strongest talent but my most beneficial. During the time I was shy and quiet. Being a photographer meant a lot to me because taking pictures makes me forget about my problems. With school going on and problems at home, I like to go out and take picture to distract myself and forget about those problems. I wanted to take my photography skills to another level. In Junior year, I pursued my curiosity of being in yearbook club. Because of the practice I had during my third year of high school, I felt that I could take some amazing pictures. But to do this I had to make a sacrifice, like practicing every day even when I did not have the time, but I was committed to learn something that I am passionate
The beauty of nature is remarkable. I cherish every moment I am outside admiring the landscape surrounding me. I also enjoy capturing the beauty of nature to share with my friends and family. For my 17th birthday, I received a camera and I was beyond excited to wander the paths throughout my neighborhood; I immediately began to take photos and capture the elegance of nature. Although it is only a hobby and I do not plan on pursuing a career as a professional photographer, I still relish taking photos for my own pleasure and for other people. For example, when my sister became engaged with her boyfriend of eleven years, she suggested that I take her engagement photos; I was shocked and honored. I do not believe that my photography skills are

Filmmaking is about not giving up, no matter how many times you are knocked to the ground. It is about picking yourself up, brushing yourself down and moving onto the next hurdle with all your effort possible. Yes, it is quite likely you will be knocked back again and again as the cycle continues. But the most important thing about filmmaking is to not give up, to keep trying to achieve your dream and make more of yourself, and therefore I have chosen to reapply to university, as I know that I am capable of more and refuse to settle for the next best thing.
My most treasured item is a box with a hole in it and a few extra dials, symbols, and buttons attached. The common misconception with photography is that more expensive your gear the higher quality your photographs and that’s what I believed too. However, that mindset quickly shifted after taking film IBSL; I was introduced to Adobe programs, color grading, and most importantly a visual education. Photographs told stories by looking at the world through the lens, not by the scale of the aperture managed by a dial. Soon, I focused less on those extra technical features and honed into to my “eye”. What first started out as a hobby became my newfound artistic form that provided a creative outlet for what stories I wanted to share. Photography began
This amazing photo captures a women before starting her chemotherapy treatment and after. The first thing that captures me is her smile and the light in her eyes, her face is full of life. For her and the world it seems like the only thing she lost in the both pictures is her hair, but truthfully she lost everything. That amazing smile, showing true happiness, her whole face is smiling , its a genuine smile that shows that she’s ready to face anything. Even though she looks like she’s in her 50’s, her face is full of youth and life, but in the after picture, its like she aged years, other than just few weeks between both photos. The way her eyes crinkle with her smile in the before picture, the perfectly groomed and styled short hair, which shows
Ubiquitous access to high resolution photography through personal mobile devices (PMDs), such as smartphones and tablets, has forever changed how we communicate. In the clinical environment, photography has extended beyond professional photography units and into the hands of clinicians through PMDs. Opportunities to optimise patient care have been enhanced by this immediate transfer of accurate and relevant clinical images.
My photos are sort of inspired by two movies. At first I was going for a Toy Story feel, were the toys come to life when then the owner leaves. But half way through doing my project I decide to take a dark turn, and went more for more of a Chucky type feel. Both of my pictures where taken in the day time, but I edited them to kind of make it look like it was nighttime with the moonlight shining through the windows, hence the blueish tone the images and videos have.
At the age of 19 years old I lost an influential person in my life. My role model, my advisor, my rock. For so long I was angry at the idea of having to live the rest of my life without my nana here with me. Instead I should have felt blessed to have had her here in the defining years of my life. I learned to always have my camera with me, whether it be my phone or an actual camera. We have dozens and dozens of memories captured on camera and I am so thankful. It’s amazing how a click of a camera can capture a lifetime of love, lessons taught, and laughter.
