Physical Therapist Soft Tissue Techniques
Physical Therapy is a field that practices rehabilitation to recover from injuries. It is defined as “the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery.” As the culture for sports increase and the baby boomer age arise, Physical Therapy is estimated to grow by 27.1% in ten years. Physical therapist practice at schools, hospitals, homes, and through local private practice. There are several types of treatments, but I’m going to focus on Manual Physical Therapy and Electrotherapy. In these studies, manual physical therapy is defined as utilizing hands on techniques to reduce pain, increase range, decrease

The technique is used by physical therapist to relieve pain, increase strength and ROM. Strain counterstrain release muscle and connective tissue spasm painlessly for all over the body. Strain counterstrain was initially called “positional release technique” which was created by Lawrence Jones in 1955. The significant thing about this technique is that is gentle and non-traumatic for treating patients. It is a series of movements of passive body positioning in dysfunctional and muscle spasms toward positions of comfort or that ease tissue that compresses or shortens the offending structures. It’s used to relax aberrant reflexes that causes muscle spasm and returns them to the normal tone levels. By doing so, it increases flexibility of joints and relaxes muscle to increase ROM and ease pain. Patients approve of Strain Counterstrain because it is gentle but effective because it positions the patient’s body away from painful directions of motion. By relaxing the spasm the muscle has no pain and joint are fully functional. Strain Counterstrain is used for chronic and acute trauma patients. For patients with acute trauma pain such as motor injuries, post-surgical injuries, sprains, and sports related injuries. It also assist with chronic trauma patients with cases such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and headaches. There’s more benefit for acute trauma pain due to it being non-traumatic and leads to faster …show more content…
Craniosacral therapy is light touch therapy that increases movement of CSF into the brain a release restrictions in the craniosacral system. The system is made up of membranes and CSF that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. The system extends from the cranium to the sacral tailbone. Imbalance in this system can cause challenges in performance. Craniosacral therapy relieves pain and improve overall body health. Everyday stress input on the body and it’s absorbed by the body. The body can only take so much and causes the body not to heal itself as normal. Correcting the tightness and pain in the body improve the body health and improve the process of the body healing itself. The therapist that perform craniosacral therapy use light touch to search for area that have weak flow of CSF and massage the area to improve the flow of CSF. The session can class from 15 minutes to 1
Physical therapy takes a more direct pathway towards a more specific problem with the human body. Physical therapy is a rehabilitation that works towards a goal of helping patients maintain, improve, or recover their physical abilities, most often times after an accident causing traumatic injury or arthritis (Mayo School of Health Sciences). Patients of a physical therapist often come in solely for the purpose of regaining their movement, not the health aspect involved behind it. Most patients of this therapist have suffered sports injuries, traumatic accidents, over even simply a problem of weakening with age such as those who suffer arthritis or other weakening of the joints and muscles. With step by step sessions focusing purely on strengthening the muscles and joints required to perform the movement functions, the patients rebuild their way from movement with pain, to no pain or suffering involved in everyday activities. When a patient begins therapy, they more or less begin with baby steps such as stretches and hydrotherapy to allow the body to relearn the movements without pain (What is Physical Therapy?). As the patient increases in strength
Craniosacral Therapy is a technique that uses massage to apply pressure to simulate circulation in the brain and spinal regions (Upledger, 2001). This therapy works by the notion the body is one component and each parts needs the other in order to function properly (Upledger, 2001). Craniosacral treatment brings relaxation to the
Special exercises designed to suit different conditions can be very useful. A physiotherapist would be the one who makes an assessment keeping in mind clients condition e.g.
Massage is a very common form of therapy for all sorts of things, from stress to chronic pain. There have been numerous studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of massage in helping to manage patients’ pain while keeping them off medication. The benefit of this type of treatment is pain relief through manipulation of the body. The mechanism of action is, once again, unknown, but it is thought to be related to stimulation of muscles and the blood flow being increased. There are
Physical Therapy is an active, helpful career. It focuses on rehabilitation to reestablish full function and mobility to the patient. Anyone and everyone can qualify for physical therapy. Patients differ in age and race, and of course, by their illness or injury. The job involves possessing and using knowledge to diagnose the patient and establish a management plan deciding what therapy will benefit and improve the patient’s condition and averaging how long it will take to accomplish.
Services within this particular career include but they are not limited to therapeutic activities, massage therapy, and gait training. To begin with, therapeutic activities involve the utilization of functional activities such as pulling, pushing as well as bending. These activities are designed to enhance an individual's functional performance in a manner that can be regarded progressive. As Dreeben-Irimia (2010) points out, the said exercises make use of posture, muscular contraction, etc. to enhance an individual's overall function. When it
Imagine that you have torn your ACL, or your anterior crucial element ligament. An athletic trainer will help you until a doctor can be seen for X-rays. A surgeon will repair the injury. An anesthesiologist will keep you pain free throughout a procedure. After this, somebody is needed to assist in improving movement. That is what a physical therapist is for. Physical therapists, or PTs, are a crucial part of rehabilitation, treatment and prevention for patients with physical ailments. Individualized programs are developed by PTs that may follow a doctor’s referral, as well as a patient’s concerns and physical evaluation. Treatment plans can be made for individuals with sprained ankles to arthritis to neurological disorders. Physical therapy varies from patient to patient, as no two injuries are exactly the same, but the goal is always the same: a completely recovered patient.
Physical therapists provide the service of the helping of restoring muscular or nerve damage upon a living organism. They improve the functions of mobility, help relieve pain, and prevent permanent physical damage of patients with injuries or disease. Fitness and health are key to helping patients get through physical therapy. Patient problems vary from physical disabilities such as car accidents to nerve damage like arthritis. Physical therapists, or also known as PT’s, start off by viewing the patients medical history, then they test the patients strength, range of motion, posture, balance and coordination, respiration, muscle performance,
This therapy may be used for a variety of pain and disability states especially involving the hands and feet.
Physical therapists are members of a health care team, specially trained to improve movement and flinction, relieve pain, and expand movement potential. Through evaluation and individualized treatment programs, physical therapists can both treat existing problems and provide preventive health care for people with a variety of needs (Physical Therapy-Improving 1). Physical therapists are very knowledgeable and skillful concerning the human body. Physical therapy is a complex, but rewarding field to pursue as a career. Specialization, working conditions, job outlook, salaries, and education requirements need to be taken into consideration when contemplating a career as a physical therapist.
We are grateful for the “Manual Therapy” reviewers thoughtful review and suggestions to improve our manuscript. Our author team has reviewed, considered, and responded to all comments and suggestions the reviewers proposed in accordance with “Manual Therapy” guidelines. Thus, we are submitting a revised manuscript “The Immediate Cardiovascular Response to Joint Mobilization of the Neck- A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial in Pain-Free Adults” for follow-up consideration for publication in “Manual Therapy”. We are hopeful that our work will be deemed as valuable and disseminated for other manual therapists to consider.
The Physical Therapy profession has been around for many years. “The American physical therapy profession emerged during and following the First World War as a result of the need for trained providers of therapeutic exercise – who practiced under the supervision of a physician – for the rehabilitation of injured soldiers.” (Wrynn, 2014) The profession over the past few years has had a huge expansion in need. “Physical therapists (PTs) provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients with injuries or disease. (Physical Therapist, 2012) Physical Therapist work with the patient to make sure
Physical Therapy is the treatment of disease, injury or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather then by drug or surgery. Physical therapist are highly-educated, licensed health care professionals who help patients reduce the pain they have and help improve or restore their mobility. PTs work in many different setting including high schools, hospitals, outpatient Clinique, etc. To become a physical therapist I'll need a graduate degree- either a masters or clinical doctorate - from an accredited physical therapy program before taking the national licensure exam. There is currently 199 colleges and universities nationwide that support 212 accredited professions physical therapy programs.
Electrotherapy is a range of beauty treatments that use electrical currents passed through the skin to produce several therapeutic effects. In this report I have researched and written
Physical therapy is the scientific physical procedures used in the treatment of patients with a disability, disease, or injury to achieve and maintain function and to prevent malfunction or deformity. One of the most important tasks that physical therapists perform is the various forms of therapeutic exercise that are used to increase strength and endurance to improve coordination and functional movement for activities of daily living and to increase and maintain range of motion (APTA History).
