Sparks flying everywhere! The welders rod burnt fiery hot. A rectangular machine burns the rod onto the platform where one marks the weld. Welders must be educated and certified before they put a torch in hand. Measuring and safety are also important when welding. Despite the heat that welders experience daily, it is certainly a necessary and vital job. Welders will need a two year Associates degree to work for a good company. Despite slower than average employment growth, skilled welders with up-to-date training should have good job opportunities. Employers also explore resources for employment and wages by state and area for welders, cutters, soldier’s, and braziers. (Occupational Outlook Handbook). Pipeline welders perform their job in a variety of work environments. With a few exceptions, pipeline welding is an outdoor activity. According to Carolyn Brown, pipes have to be repaired regardless of the weather, so this means working conditions can vary from sunny and pleasant to cold and snowy, depending on location and season. Some offshore welders even have special training in underwater welding. Welding generates a great deal of heat and sparks, so pipeline welders have to wear fire resistant clothing. Many pipeline welders work on or near oil or natural gas rigs. They work with pipe layers to build the piping system for the rig and are also available for maintenance and repair of pipes. Rigs are typically located in rural areas, so pipeline welders often have to travel to reach the work site. Oil rigs are dangerous places to work, in general. Every oil or gas well has at least a short pipeline system to a holding tank, and many connect to long-distance pipelines that pump products for hundreds or even thousands of miles to ports or refineries. Refineries, of course, are a complex maze of piping systems that funnel raw and finished petroleum products through various processes to sea transport or tanker trucks. Pipe layers and pipeline welders are the professionals who build and repair these pipeline systems.
In conclusion, welding can be a very dangerous job, but at the same time it is very rewarding that helps you build solid networks and strong relationships with those working in areas outside of the welding field. Welding comes with lots of benefits as well as health and safety care. Pipeline welding creates a wisdom of knowledge of how to become your best at home, work, and in the community.
