The main conflicts that Bone has is person vs. self and person vs. person. The main conflict that Bone has about herself is she feels that she’s worthless. She feels that all of the horrible things that Glen does to her is because she did something wrong to deserve it. She feels like she can’t do anything right. Whenever she thinks that she's doing good Glen ends up finding something to get mad at her for. She feels that her mom doesn’t love because she stays with Glen even though he beats Bone. Bone feels she’s not worthy enough because her mom won’t leave Glen for her. She also feels ashamed that she masterbates. She knows it's not something that she should be doing, but she does it because she likes it. She feels like a bad christian when

One of the most complex and elaborate characters in Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison is Bone. Throughout the story Bone has to live a life where she thinks that she is the leading mystery of the trouble being caused. She has numerous unhappy situations and is in no way self-satisfied with herself. She doesn’t appreciate who she is physically. She constantly thinks she is the most homely and dull person who causes the most inconvenience in the family. This sense of selflessness is mainly due to the physical and sexual abuse brought upon by Daddy Glen, Bone’s stepfather. Unfortunately, the assaults were stretched out over a long period of time, leaving little chance for Bone to recover as an adult if any at all. I decided to take
Along with the supernatural effect, Bone Gap also includes a diverse range of characters that add to the exciting storyline. Although the main characterization of the townspeople is typical small-town busybodies, the primary characters of the novel present unique characteristics and personal backgrounds. As an illustration, the main character, Finn, and his brother, Sean, both experience the same family life, but behave very differently. While Finn is a much more distracted individual, often referred to as “moonface” (p 1), Sean is a more responsible, parent-figure and in turn, loved by the people of Bone Gap. Additionally, the character, Roza, further contributes to this idea. Roza mysteriously appeared in the town and on top of that, she is Polish. Not only are many of the characters in the novel diverse, but also dynamic. As the characters experience changes throughout the story, the plot receives even more depth that creates a rollercoaster of events. For instance, the character, Petey, experiences a change of both attitude and perspective during the
She does not understand the lives of people with higher socioeconomic status than her. While many may think that this is a good thing because she will never know what to compare her life to, this actually instigates a problem for Bone. An example of this being a problem is her tarnished relationship with Shannon Pearl. Shannon and Bone never truly understand each others family dynamics, and this eventually causes an argument. Shannon says, “Everybody knows you’re all a bunch of drunks and thieves and bastards. Everybody knows you just come round so you can eat off my mama’s table and beg scraps we don’t want no more” (Allison 170). Although Shannon and Bone are both children, people who do not have much power, Shannon still has higher ground because of her socioeconomic status. Due to their poverty, the Boatwrights’ have always been looked down upon in society. It is often hard for Bone because she is always reminded of this fact. She turns to a friend to help her forget her low standing due to her poverty, but instead, she was reminded of her impoverished state and yet again, was left with no resources to help
This study was performed to study the effects on what would happen to the mass of a bone from a chicken wing when the amount of sugar is increased in a liquid. The hypothesis for this lab was that when more sugar was added to the liquid, the more the mass of the bone would decrease over time. It was predicted that the gatorade would make the mass decrease the most and that the water would decrease it the least. It is known that sugar can increase body weight in fat (Greenfield), but sugar can also act as an acid in some cases (Goldschmidt). Our hypothesis was formed thinking that the sugar may act as an acid in this experiment. In this experiment the independent variable was the liquids and the dependent variable was the three chicken bones.
Understanding the Cultural differences can lead one to understand Bone from a new perspective. Expectations of difficulty for the women in the book are much more prevalent and the children’s unstable home environment can be understood. Views of
Bones can be considered a progressive series of our time. It is a forensic anthropologist called Dr.Temperance Brennan. She is a woman that solves murders with her team at the Jeffersonian. Her partner is called Agent Booth from the FBI. The TV series can be described as being sexist yet Misogyny. In this paper, I will deconstruct each character with sociological lenses. It will analyze how each character reacts to others and events. It will demonstrate how the show has objectified women and justified objection among strong female characters.
Jesmyn Ward’s novel Salvage the Bones ensues with a rather powerful phrase, ‘I kill and I make alive, I wound and I heal, neither is there any can deliver out of my hand’ these expressive words manage to fully encapsulate a prominent overarching theme of her novel and greatly parallel the plight of Esch Batiste (Deuteronomy 32:39). Salvage the Bones is told entirely from the self-contained narration of Esch Batiste, a young woman enveloped in a world of men. Esch’s only maternal influence has long passed only to be replaced by the weak paternal bond of her father, a drunk whose only interest is that of the impending hurricane. In Salvage the Bones maternal bonds encase the story and play a pivotal part in the understanding of Esch’s thoughts and choices. For Esch, the strongest display of motherhood and of the responsibilities and brutality that come with it is that of China, Skeetah’s pitbull. In addition, Esch relies heavily upon the mythological story of Medea to commonly serve as source of strength and guidance to help her form her opinions on motherhood and guide her through her impending pregnancy. Through Esch, Ward asks the
Shadow and Bone is about the character Alina Starkov, who’s a mapmaker. She travels with the army, charting the Shadow Fold. The Shadow Fold is a dark region that splits the country, Ravka in two. It seems to be difficult to cross as there are monsters, volcra, lurking within it. She tries to help her people in the best way she knows how. She isn’t good at sketching maps or drawings, but this is the only place she belongs, as she has no real family. Alina is an orphan, and the only family she has is Mal, her “family” who is a tracker for the army. Being a mapmaker ensures that she can be close to Mal, and that’s important to Alina. She knows she’s completely in love with him, but he still treats her like his kid sister.
This is the first time I have ever seen an episode of Bones. It is very interesting, however, I was a little lost with the relationship details of Booths and Bones. One question that occurred to me while watching episode was, what had happened between the two of them? At the beginning of the show when they find the body, I realized that this whole episode would be about how, what had happened to the person and how they was killed? As the investigation of the body found is carried out, the personal relationship of Bones and Booth is presented with adds drama to the show.

My particular bone model, representing that of the femur, beared the ability to withstand and support the weight of a standard textbook. Depicted on the outermost portion is that of the periosteum, the element in which provides protection for the remaining sections of the bone. Additionally, I was able to incorporate a representation of compact bone into the model; the unforgiving nature of this tissue greatly aided in supporting the substantial weight. A key component within my model was that of compact bone tissue, due to it’s distinct and useful properties. The outstanding strength and rigidity of this structure allowed for the successful placement of heavier objects in a direct manner, as well as providing a solid protection for the bone’s
According to WebMD, an Arthrogram is a radiographic examination of a joint, such as a knee, shoulder, hip, ankle or wrist. It is used to obtain a series of pictures by using special kinds of radiographic imaging like fluoroscopy, MRI, CT and contrast. Contrast material is a dye that is injected into the patient and helps the doctor see the soft tissue structures of that joint such as tendons, ligaments, muscles, cartilage and joint capsule (Healthwise Staff, 2014, p. 1).Contrast is either injected directly into the joint or indirectly where the dye is injected into the bloodstream and absorbs into the joint. Without contrast these structures would not be seen on a regular radiographic image. The article also states that Fluoroscopy helps take
To the Bone is a film about a 20-year old female named Ellen also known as Eli who depicts Anorexia Nervosa. By the time she is introduced, she has had four inpatients and going on to the next one thanks to her step mother, Susan, who has fought hard to get her an appointment with a really good doctor named Dr. Beckham. The agreement conditions include that neither her or her parents are allowed to talk about food, she is on her own, and she has to agree to a minimum of six weeks inpatient.
