The Biggest Problem Facing America Today. Americans feel the biggest problem facing America today is its own government. The reason Americans feel this way is because they do not think the President, Congress, and the Supreme Court are serving the needs of the people. The reason why is that people fear their own government they do not feel safe. With all the police brutality going on Americans feel like the people who are there to serve and protect are there just to attack them. They cannot afford healthcare because the bills are so high and the ones who have social security, Medicaid, and Medicare are costing the government billions of dollars. Auerbach suggests that, “Police brutality has been sensationalized in the media and by civil rights activists.” Is he right does the media over exaggerates police brutality? As shown below he shows the statics of how many people get attacked by officers. “The national average for police brutality claims, according to one study, is 9.5 per 100 full-time officers.”(Auerbach) That is really low compared to how many Americans get incarcerated in jail but the media will show police brutality whenever it can to scare Americans even the cops feel threatened on the force. We need to find a way to make everyone feel safe. Americans don't even trust the police when it comes to doing their job. Karl expresses, “What's changed is something else: the assumption of who is good and who is bad. In a Gallup survey in June, just 52% of Americans expressed confidence in the police, down 4 points from a year earlier and tying the lowest level since 1993” this shows that Americans faith in the police is as bad as it's been since the Rodney king beating.
