From examining Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, there is a strong comparison between Victor Frankenstein’s creation of the monster and the current U.S. political environment. In the world we are living in we face many political boundaries. Our government supposedly has created a failsafe to avoid electing officials that were unfit for office. In Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein and our current President are rather similar; they underestimate how difficult their assignments are, lack readiness and skill needed for their task, as well as the ability to stand up for what is right so others are not affected by their decisions.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Donald Trump stated: “I thought being President would be easier…”. Easier than what? According to later conversations, our President believed becoming the leader of one of the most advanced countries in the world would be significantly easier than his previous occupation as a host of a reality tv show. Victor clearly believed that creating and caring for a monster would be easier than it is. Victor states “So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein—more, far more, will I achieve;”, he clearly had intentions to care for the monster, but once he realized the difficulty of the tasks he ran. To elaborate Victor states, “I will be with you on your wedding night! That, then, was the period fixed for the fulfillment of my destiny.
