The Pony Express covered 1,800 miles between Sacramento, California and St. Joseph, Missouri (Pony Express Territory Nevada). Along the way in this journey many riders would stop in Nevada. One of these stops was located at Simpson Park Station which is fifteen miles north east of Austin, Nevada (Simpson Park Station-Pony Express). The Simpson Park Station was named by Captain James H. Simpson who was the captain of the United States Topographical Engineers (Lewin). He decided to go on a route from Camp Floyd in Utah to Genoa Nevada. He stopped at this station because of the copious water, wood and grass in that area. The group that he stopped with decided to name the station after him but he wanted to keep the Native Americans incorporated
