There are many sporting event and just about all of them have referees. Not every call the ref makes is going to go the way you would like. Fans and players need to realize it is just a game and that not everyone is perfect. In fact some calls are made because it's hard to tell where the ball is or who has the ball because a bunch of players are blocking their view. But they make the call and no matter what one team isn't going to like the call and they need to deal with it.
Back in 2012 Lance Easley made a so called “bad call” and received several death threats. He now has post traumatic stress disorder and suffers from severe depression. No one should suffer this because they are doing there job. One referee actually ended up receiving 15-16 death threats all over one call. 3.5 billion soccer fans and there are a bunch of crazy fans who will go crazy over a not so good call. Back in 2012 The packers were facing off against the seahawks. Norman Gibbs was watching football like he always does every sunday and his favorite

Those crazy fans or chaotic player take it to the next level. According to http://www.paradigmsports.ca/2016/04/21/why-officials-quit/ the #1 reason why so many refs are quitting year after year is because of verbal abuse. In face sometimes its not verbal abuse but physical abuse. Hockey ref Scott Miskiewicz actually says that he feel like giving up being a ref because he was sucker punched by a hockey player during the match. This isn't the only incident where the ref get criticism or punched or something like that. In fact it has gone to the worst extreme possible where the ref is killed by a player getting mad. John Bieniewicz was killed reffing an adult soccer league after one player (Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad) decided to punch the ref in the face because he was planning to eject Saad. Sports are supposed to be fun not where you get mad and start throwing punches because you're
Society calls for athletes to give flawless performances in the stadiums and arenas. The fans have grown accustomed to high flying, hard hitting shows of athleticism and finesse, and oftentimes an athletes success gains them a elevated status in society with special privileges that you and I can only dream of. As there careers get bigger and bigger they fell that they should be shown a certain respect by fans when not on the field, and many athletes become angered when
Before exploring the health of an athlete its important to understand what mental health is. Mental health is characterised by emotional wellbeing and resilience to stress (ClearingHouseForSport Australian Government Ralph Richards 9th June 2016). Mentally healthy individuals are able to cope with daily stresses and fully participate in family, work and in this case sport activities. A mental disorder is a diagnosable illness that affects a persons thinking, emotional state and behaviour and disrupts his/her ability to carry out normal daily activities and maintain personal relationships. Exercise has many benefits, not only for physical health but also your mental health as well. In the brain, exercise stimulates chemicals that improve an
Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle, a member from the other team kicked Michael in the head. Michael did nothing to react in a threatening way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the other team did not get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called “un-sportsman like conduct” for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything wrong. Another example of discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was blocking a player on the other team. Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee’s called out his team. The coach asked the referee what they did wrong and they responded by saying, “I don’t know… excessive blocking.” The referee’s obviously did not have a significant reason for blowing their whistles and they likely would not have mentioned it if Michael was white.
Psychology impact of sport injuries is a topic no one hears much about until an athlete is injured and goes through it himself/herself. High school athletes as well as professional ones both are exposed to injuries at any time, the impact of this injury might be the same. Getting injured is devastating for most athletes, what they don’t hear much is how bad it can get to them mentally. Depending on the injury, some athletes are able to return to the sport, others are not so lucky. When they are affected emotionally or mentally, it does not only affect them, but their team, the fans, and even the coaches. In most cases, these injuries and the rehabilitation process are often followed by psychological consequences which can impact the athletes’ well-being, as well as their chances of returning to their sport. The importance of sport psychology will be discussed throughout the paper to give a better understanding on how it affects athletes when dealing with a sport injury. Being aware of the psychological symptoms, as well as knowing how to avoid the effects could make a difference on someone. As well as knowing how important rehabilitation is when wanting to return to the game as soon as possible, if probable.
Throughout the years, sporting events has been a place for fans to forget about what is going on in their life, take a break from the real world, and focus on the game. Often, many fans don't just watch and keep up with sports solely because of the type of sport, but also to keep up with their favorite athletes and teams. However, the aggressive and violent nature of the sports can often be carried over from the field to real life, impacting not only the athlete and the team, but also the fans.
Soccer is like a religion in many countries all over the world and it means everything to its fans. Where im from, Argentina, soccer is bigger than anything. Alot of people take soccer even more serious than their jobs. Sometimes a little to serious. There has been a lot of soccer related accidents in Argentina and many other parts of the world. Many of the accidents occur during games in the stands. Soccer rivalries are very big in Argentina. Sometimes they seperate towns. Just like gangs here in United States, soccer fans fight for respect and hate towards the other team, a lot of times ending in deaths. Other incidents occur off the field. A good example to show how serious fans take the game, is the incident that occur after a World Cup, when a colombian player scored an own goal during an important game, and he was assasinated a few days later. Things like that usually never happen here in the United States. Not to say that fans are no passionate about football, but its a different type of passion.
The National Football League, or NFL, has recently started enforcing strict rules regarding helmet to helmet hits; they are now fining and suspending players who commit vicious tackles or helmet to helmet hits. Many fans, players, and coaches complain against the helmet to helmet rule and grown upset about these newly enforced rules, while many still have favor for the new rule. This latest dilemma stirred up various amounts of controversies around the news and public. Several meetings and discussions took place on how the officials should officiate and make the decisions of how crucial and legal the degree of the hit made on the field. These new rules and fines should remain in the NFL to help ensure the
It is the referee’s job to catch wrongdoing & the athletes & coaches have no inherent responsibility to follow the rules.
Soccer is regarded as the world’s biggest sport, it’s played everywhere, from the streets to major cities around the globe. There are many misconceptions about soccer and it’s very frustrating to hear about; being a Soccer fan myself. Whether you call it football or soccer, there are three enormous misconceptions I hear all the time and one of the biggest misconception I hear from people is that soccer is a very long and boring sport. The second one I pick up from people is whenever a penalty kick has been awarded, the referee must give a red or yellow card to the opposing teams defender. This Just isn’t true. The last misconception is you will get beat up by delinquents if you go to a game. Most People believe that soccer isn’t very exciting to watch and is very tiresome to go through. Soccer isn’t a game where two teams go back and forth scoring goal after goal.
Officials are very influential components when it comes to the game of football. To guarantee that all football games are fair “officials shall hold and maintain the basic tenets of officiating which include history, integrity, neutrality, respect, sensitivity, professionalism, discretion, and tactfulness” (Code of Conduct for Sports Officials). Since the NFL considers officials a third team on the field incompetence among them should not be common, but it is. Most people, mostly
I know this doesn’t make me as a fan happy. I love football, but hate unnecessary flags! This also doesn’t make players happy. Tight End Vernon Davis of the Washington Redskins said, “It doesn’t make sense to me at all” (Kahler). He doesn’t understand getting a flag for spiking the football. Cornerback Kevin Johnson of the Houston Texans said “Man, there is no telling what I’ll do”(Kahler). He is talking about what celebrations he will do that are allowed. This also make the NFL coaches angry because they don’t like flags for something that makes the team more energized. Bill O'Brien was mad when the refs called a flag for his team celebrating when they made a play(Kahler). This shows it makes nobody
There were many people around me and no one was able to see clearly what happened, including my coach. However, the referee said that an opposing player had stuck his foot out and tripped me on purpose which is why the referee gave my team a penalty kick almost immediately. The referee is comparable to Mitchell from The Sweet Hereafter as both spoke from experience and thought that there was no accident. The referee easily gave the penalty even without seeing clearly what happened and thought that it was more probable someone was to blame for me tripping rather than an accident. The referee was wrong as I tripped over my own
The best way to prove the reliability of theories, interventions and methods is by the evaluation of the research gathered. Given that ACT is still in its early stages, a reliable case study proving its effectiveness in sport is hard to find, however, many case studies have been conducted on several other issues outside sport. A case study researching a 19-year-old female with a troubled past ultimately leading to post traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, can still be viewed as proof of the effectiveness of ACT. Putting it into a sport based prospective formula 1 drivers who have been involved in horrific crashes can suffer from PTSD so from evaluating this case study we can get an understanding to whether it could be effective in a sports environment. The client had to complete numerous self-report measures one of which was the acceptance and action questionnaire (Hayes, Strosahl, et al., in press), throughout the course of treatment and at 3 month, 6 month and 12 month
The first type of bad basketball referee is “The Old Timer.” This referee is extremely easy to spot. He is strict, clean cut, and well, old. He thinks that he knows every last rule about the game of basketball, and to prove this he is nit-picky when calling fouls. When he reports fouls, he will be precise with his hand movements, doing everything ‘by the book’. He is also unable to keep up with the speed of the game, but that will not stop him from calling fouls, once again showing everyone that he knows the rules and follows them thoroughly. One example of this was when my
Rules and penalties are known in advance by everyone and they are fair, consistent, and immediate. This attribute was imposed by the “referees” that were constantly walking around to make sure that the house was up to par.
