Modernism is a Philosophical movement that along with cultural trends and changes arose in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Modern architecture developed as a result of social and political revolutions. Others believe it was driven by engineering and technological development. Along with the industrial revolution the availability of materials such as iron steel and sheet glass led to the invention of new building techniques.
The common themes of modern architecture include the term Form follows functions.

Modernism aims for clarity of forms and elimination of un necessary detail similarly to the above point the reintroduction of ornament to architecture allowed people to express themselves and in also the introduction of symbolism into the designs. Instead of plain walls and minimal furniture people began to introduce patterns into furniture and wall décor. Although sometimes limited it allowed people to express themselves. Even in architecture this is seen through the use of statues, these are symbolic, and are used to represent something or someone. Postmodernist were looking to break the rules set by the modernist. The devastation of Western Civilization in the great war accelerated and strengthened Modernist thinking.

Expressing the status of minimalism can be represented through the pared-down qualities, basic shapes, objectivity, designs with the barest elements and essentials stretched to produce maximum effect and unsigned/unnamed style. Often very sparse detailing but produced with fabulous finishing combined against impersonal tones, where the details can be repeated creating a layering effect. The Minimalism movement defines and collaborates, with the relative aspects that are shown within the Modernism period and often can be mistaken for the Abstract expressionism take on the art world, leading to transferring a style passage to the Post-minimal creative art practice. Potentially minimalism could also be interpreted as not just for the arts, but also as a life style choice to reflect yourself as a person, if your personal preferences are based on no fuss and no a bother attitude, but also in fact refined pieces that contain detailing through the quality of an object, and of the simplicity, stripped back to purely just key essentials that have been played upon with classical yet contemporary details that can be transferred into a fashion
According to Murphie & Potts, we can treat modernism as a cultural condition within that historical period. Modernism can then be discussed as first a general sensibility, reflected in the broadest cultural terms- a new way of seeing the world, perhaps, as experienced by people at that time” (40). I will say modernism is the style of art, architecture, which uses different way than what was used in the past.
Modernism was a movement that was developed during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Modernism developed due to the changes happening in societies at the time. Around the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century there was a rise in the industrial society’s where there were advancements in technologies and machines, and a rapid growths in cities. This lead to a change in cultural trends and philosophies, which is known as modernism. Modernism was well known for the rejection on traditional way, such as the arts and beliefs. It rejected the idea of realism and religious beliefs. During these years modernism could be distinguished by two aspects, High and Low Modernism.
Although, most post-modernist architects had been associated with modern architects in terms of training during the twentieth century, they refused most their teachers ideas. In addition, today's architects cannot deny the modern architecture ways of designing any building. Their design, for instance, has many philosophical meaning such as constructional, environmental, sociological, commercial and metaphorical meaning.
Modernism is just another word for 20th century. It was a movement which started in the beginning of the 20th century and carried on until about the 1960’s.

More specifically in art and culture, ’’artists responded by trying to find new ways of seeing, new models of knowing...abandoning rules of perspective, and in literature, abandoning a fixed point of view’’ (Bentley&Brooker17).
