Having a positive mind and positive outlook are crucial to being successful in business. It is optimism that drives entrepreneurs to move forward. But there is danger in sheer and pure optimism. Excessive optimism can make one overlook risks and potential pitfalls. This is what you need to avoid. So while approaching business with an optimistic mindset, you also have to acknowledge that there are dangers and risks that you must exercise carefulness.
2 Practice Healthy Pessimism
People will tell you that negative thinking will not get you anywhere. And yes, pessimism does breed fear and that fear can stop you from taking the necessary steps in order to be successful. But there is use in having a little bit of healthy pessimism. Having healthy pessimism means that you are pessimistic enough so as to recognize the pitfalls and risks involved in your venture. However, you are not pessimistic enough so as to allow those insights to stop you. Instead, you are driven to come up with solutions to every risks and difficulties that you encounter.
3 Find Motivation
It is good to have the ideas and the opportunities. But even if these things are present, nothing will come into fruition if you do not take action. Looking at the bright side and noticing what is right as opposed to what is wrong is not normal for most people. It is commonly thought that being optimistic is not being realistic and even though that is true for some people, there are ways to be optimistic in a healthy manner that can help one see life’s challenges realistically even when times get tough. Being optimistic is a skill that takes effort and thought but spending the time to work on cultivating optimism can be life changing. Cultivating optimism is one of the happiness enhancing strategies that has been shown to increase happiness levels and positive thoughts about the future, which is the concept which I experimented with when I conducted the Best Possible Selves activity.
As a human being living in this ruthless world, the perspective of how we see life plays great role in the success and happiness of a person. Optimism is seeing positive aspects of life. I as an immigrant I have had experienced the ups and downs of life to an extent where all I have to hold unto was hope and faith. My motto in life is seeing the light in all the darkness that was surrounding me. That is how I lived and will live. Being an optimist person has helped me to be more peaceful to myself and more confident.
The concept of optimistic response or being positive is by no means ideal where you don’t experience negative emotions. Obviously, we can’t avoid negativity in our lives; bad things do happen always. What matters is the rate of positive to negative emotions over time. We have to be sure that we have more than enough positive experiences to counterbalance the negative ones. (Carbrera, 2010)
Be prepared to put in sacrifice. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to sacrifice. there’s no way around it. I’ve learned over the years, one the best trait that I have is that I can sacrifice and suffer more than most people I know. That’s just the way it is/ I accepted years ago the greater the risks the greater the reward. If you’re not going to be a risk taker, if you’re not going to sacrifice and suffer, it’s not going to work. You can be smart and talented but if there’s no work ethic behind you, don’t do
Life can be full of surprises and is not always an easy journey. However, having an optimism outlook on life can make one’s life journey more enjoyable. Positive emotion is very important to enhance a progressive life. (Slegiman, 2009). It is one’s choice to choose not to have a negative attitude towards challenges in life but to instead have a positive attitude towards all trials. Recently, the author’s husband was sentenced to six and half years to federal prison and it was a devastating event for their family of six which included four children. Initially, depression along with a flood of negative thoughts began to rush through their minds. However, choosing to stand positively and have an optimistic outlook allowed them to get through this hard time.
Those who lack a positive mind-set usually get overwhelmed and start blaming others or their environment for their conditions. However, those with a positive mind-set see the change as a way of life and strive to make things better and favorable to them. In my life, I believe I have reached where I am because of having a positive mind-set. I have failed in several courses but I have always seen a chance in retaking them. I emerge a better person and more experienced. I also have a business and at the beginning, I never used to make a profit from it. Nevertheless, I did not throw away my business but I believed that things would change for the better and actually, it is now doing
The definition of the word “optimism” is a favorable attitude about conditions or events in life. Some believe that optimistic views in life will have beneficial effects on psychological and physical health. However, excessive optimism can have harmful effects on psychological and physical health. Many tests and research have been done on people to see if optimism does in fact have an effect on psychological and physical health.
Being optimistic is the main principle for most people. We may often hear the statement about “be an optimist, not a pessimist!” shouted by people. Sometimes you do it for yourself too.
