Diana, Princess of Wales was considered the people’s princess. She married Prince Charles, son of Queen Elizabeth II, of England in 1981. When they divorced in late 1996 the people were heart broken over the affair that Prince Charles had with Camilla Parker Bowles. Princess Diana led the same life she had been, she continued her charity work and her love life. The tragedy that left the country in tears and the world in disbelief, ended with unanswered questions which people turned into conspiracy theories. Princess Diana was killed in an attempt to keep the country 's secrets safe.

Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, gave a eulogy for her on September 6, 1997. In the eulogy he speaks of how much Diana meant to the people of not only England, but also the people of the world. Diana Frances Spencer was born on July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, United Kingdom to the eighth Earl of Spencer, Edward John Spencer, and Frances Spencer. Diana had four other siblings; Elizabeth, Cynthia, John, and Charles. In 1967, Frances Spencer left Edward for Peter Shand-Kydd. Frances and Edward divorced in 1969. The children stayed with Edward and, in 1976, Edward married Raine, Countess of Dartmouth. After the death of Diana’s grandfather, the seventh Earl of Spencer, the family moved to the Althorp house in Northamptonshire.1

Also known as the Princess of Wales, Diana, was recalled as a very reliable and beloved international figure who passed away in a tragic car accident. She continues to be a well-known figure because of her impact to the modern world such as being able to spend her time visiting the homeless, or terminally ill patients in various hospices. Days after her passing her brother, Earl Spencer, gave a speech that was a eulogy, to help many others cope with the sudden loss. The tone shifts from a mournful feeling to a more cheerful one when Earl brings up his childhood memories and the time he spent with her.

Diana, Princess of Wales, held the heart and attention of millions of people. She was known as the “ People's Princess” across her country and the world (Morton 10). Behind all the flashing lights and close doors, Princess Diana struggled with life. As part of the royal family, her life was not as easy going as people thought. Princess Diana changed the lives of thousands of people through her contributions and as an advocate for different charities.

When Diana was nine years old her parents were divorced, and her father won custody of the children. Princess Diana was homeschooled for the first few years of her life, and when she reached the age of nine she was enrolled into Riddlesworth Hall, an all girls boarding school. When Diana was twelve, she moved to West Heath Girls’ School where her sisters attended, and later failed her exams and did not graduate with what we call a diploma. Diana did not return to school, instead she began forming her own charities and started working with other charities. Some of the charities that she was involved in include: “the homeless and starving, the children with AIDS, the battered women, and the destitute, and she worked towards banning landmines in places of war” (Gitlin, Martin). Princess Diana was associated with over a hundred different charities in her lifetime.

As the pressure grows heavier because of the Queen’s absence, she finally decides to go out in the public and show support. She fears the people see the monarchy radically different than before Diana’s death. When she finally goes out and sees the flowers at Balmoral she realizes that even though she had badly misunderstood what her people had expected of her, they cherished and loved her presence.

Suffering from the depression of having lost her paternal grandfather, and accepting that she could no longer put forth effort and move forward with her education took a major toll. Emotionally, Diana lacked a stable emotional foundation. When it came to relationships, she did not believe in happily ever after due to the collapse in her parents’ marriage. The difficulties that she experienced surrounding her own marriage seemed to make her stronger and more noticeable when it came to the type of charity work she carried and the media speculation. Those played a significant role in providing a support system for her – she focused her attention on helping others in order to make herself happy.
