I support the death penalty for several different reasons. Firstly, I believe that the death penalty helps reduce the amount of crime and serves as a deterrent. Criminals commit crimes for different reasons, some for personal beliefs, happiness or suffer from mental illnesses. The crimes of rape, torture, murder, kidnapping, and treason could potentially put a human on death row. If a human is sentenced to death, the crime rates will decrease significantly. In a study, “Professor Robert B. Ekelund of Auburn University and his colleagues analyzed the effect that executions have on single murder rates, while there was no effect on multiple murder rates”. (CITE) In another study, Professor Robert B. Ekelund did find that “capital punishment does,
The pros for the death penalty are convicting are those with serious crimes such as torture rape and murder. Capital punishment over time has become more humane because it was done by injections instead of methods used in the past. Capital punishment is the only way to stop crimes. It is believed that the threat of capital punishment reduces violent crimes. Executing convicted murders, save society money instead of keeping them in jail. The death penalty is a just and proper way of handling convicted murderers. Family’s that have lost a loved one
There are many reasons to both support and oppose the death penalty. Many people can feel very strongly about whether or not they approve of this method of punishment. I feel that the death penalty is wrong, and I believe that there is much support to back this up. I believe that the death penalty is wrong because it is not an effective deterrent, racially and economically bias, unreliable, expensive, and morally wrong of society.
The death penalty is supposed to deter murder and bring the justice that the murder families of the victims should be rewarded (Hyden). Although many scientific researches can conclude that it does not deter murder and the members of the murder victims’ family have rejected/rejecting the program because it retraumatizes them with long process of trials, appeals, and of course the media (Hyden). In contrast, a sentence of life in prison is certain and instant, allowing the families to move on knowing that the justice of the crime is being served. Comparing whether or not the death penalty should be legalized, the reasons as to why it shouldn’t be, are strong enough to change one person’s mind. The death penalty still should be illegal in the United States.
I, myself, don’t support the death penalty and I believe it’s unethical. There has have been many cases where someone has been sentenced to death row and then after they had already been executed, officials found out that they had the wrong person in custody, and once this is done it can’t be undone. Run on sentence, but it is an important point to make. Add an article citation here that has an example of this. There is also the fighting fire with fire argument, that killing someone for killing someone else doesn’t solve anything or make it justified. It doesn’t seem to make sense to say that “Because you killed someone, we’re going to get back at you by killing you.” This is called “retributive justice” Also, if the death penalty wasn’t enacted, these criminals could end up spending the rest of their lives in prison with the guilt and this could be a more harshharsher punishment than just being put to death. In some of the cases, it is family members or friends that
I do not support the death penalty mainly because of the imperfections within the system that has caused innocent citizens on death-row to be falsely convicted and executed. No nation is perfect, but this has occurred on more than one occasion. This system needs to be studied and resolved so this does not happen again. In 1984, an innocent man named David Wayne Spence
I, as well as many others, have total confidence in the death penalty. It is a very beneficial component of our justice system. The death penalty saves lives. It saves lives because it stops those who murder from ever murdering again. It also deters potential murderers from ever committing the crime.
The Death Penalty has aided or the U.S. in times where large crimes have been committed and the perpetrator has been convicted for their crimes. When the prisoner is taken into prison, they take up more space in another prison where it already is overcrowded. Secondly, Tax money that is taken away from law abiding citizens is given to prisons to care for them. Thirdly, for some of the most gruesome, cold-blooded, killers the death penalty is the only reasonable punishment for him/her to face. Therefore the Death Penalty has helped many people in many ways. Yes, there are some naysayers that disagree with this argument that would like to share their opinion. Surely this can help them understand that the death penalty helps more than it hurts.
Capital Punishment Have you ever thought about the idea of capital punishment? Do you support it or no? Many people disagree with the idea of it, but some people agree with it. People agree with the idea because the criminals who have done horrible things deserve to die. Many people who disagree with capital punishment disprove it because of the money and the time that it costs.
Coretta Scott King once said, “Justice is never advanced in the taking of a human life”. I agree with Coretta about bringing justice is not about taking someone's else's life. I am against the death penalty because it is not fair to take someone else's life just to punish them for something that they did wrong. Three reasons why the death penalty is wrong are; death penalty puts innocents lives at risk, we pay many millions for the death penalty system, and race and place determine who lives and dies. First, some people that are in jail are guilty and end up getting the death penalty. However, they kill innocent people who do not deserve to die. In the Amnesty International USA website it states,“Since 1973, 151 people have been released from
Imagine yourself being put on death row. You’d know that you’re going to die, so you walk around taking your last steps, saying your final goodbyes to your family and friends, and eating your last meal. Being on death row is much easier said than done. Imagine how to families of the convicts feel when knowing that their loved one is soon to be killed under a lethal injection. Death row is a very unhumane way to deal with a serious crime. For these reasons, I am against the death penalty.
The first reason I am for Capital Punishment, is because it will keep a criminal from replicating the same crime again. If a person has assassinated someone, and is convicted of murder, but only gets a few years in prison, chances are they will replicate the crime again. Although, if a person only gets a few years in prison for murder, it can also cause other criminals to replicate a similar crime, because they know they will only get a few years in prison. For example, in the Timothy Buss case. Timothy murdered a five-year-old girl, and was sentenced to 25 years in 1981, however was out on parole
I strongly believe in the death penalty because it deters crime. According to James Pitkin (2008) “Advocates of the death penalty argue that it deters crime, is a good tool for police and prosecutors (in plea bargaining for example), makes sure that convicted criminals do not offend again and is a just penalty for atrocious crimes such as child murders, serial killers or torture murderers.”
Many who disagree with the death penalty believe it is immoral, discriminates, is very expensive, increases crime, and is only a way to carry out revenge. This, however, is not true. Capital punishment should be legal because it is moral, by not allowing criminals to roam the streets once again. It does not discriminate against those of color or the poor, and is actually less expensive than life imprisonment. The most important reason why the death penalty should be legal is because it deters crime.
The death penalty, also known as capital punishment is a legal procedure in which a state executes a person for crimes he/she has committed. This punishment has been implemented by many states, and is normally used for atrocious crimes, especially murder. It is also used on crimes against the state such as treason, crimes against humanity, espionage, and violent crimes while other states use it as part of military justice. There are mixed reactions on capital punishment depending on one’s faith, and the state they come from. In my view, I am not in favor of death penalty, as I strongly believe that, death penalty is unacceptable and an inhumane practice for it denies one the right to live. Death penalty does not deter crime, it is an act
I don’t support the death penalty because it shows just how savage humans can be with each other. However, many Americans support the death penalty for a number of reasons. After someone’s loved one is murdered, the family immediately has thoughts about killing the offender. They feel like it’s the right thing to do after their loved one has been taken away from them and that the person that committed the crime should suffer as their loved one had to. They feel like justice has been served and that they can continue on with their daily lives. What they all fail to realize is that by killing the offender, their loved one is not going to come and knock on their doors and everything return to normal.
