One as being, sponsorships and endorsements like the World Cup; its known for its endorsement with their soccer players like Lionel Messi, sponsored by Adidas and Cristiano Ronaldo, sponsored by Nike. Not only professional’s athletes are sponsors by those sport brands, but actors and singers are as well, including Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, who is the face of some of the Adidas’s line. It is all about supply and demand, because these “celebrities” are not trying to value to society or make their profits to the people. It is the people who are giving up their money to support and watch them. Like every time you turn on television watching a game, a TV show, or a commercial you are supporting them and giving them more attention. Even more so, we support them by buying their merchandise, tickets, their clothing lines, and whatever issue magazine they are in. Another viewpoint would be having an equal society, whereas these athletes, singers, and actors have a wage cap or salary cap, which is an agreement on the limit amount of money they should earn, so it could be
Yes, Athletes get paid too much money. Accordingly to the article, from LeBron James making 71 million dollars and the President does not make as much money as LeBron James. Nurses, and other people who save lives do not make as much money as LeBron James.
Athletes in America are known to be some of the highest paid athletes in the world. Multi-million dollar contracts and extreme amounts of money. They play extreme amounts of games and get paid what the general public would think to be a lot. In reality, they don’t get paid enough. In The Cauldron article, Leland Faust try’s to persuade the audience about athletes paychecks. He effectively uses ethos, pathos, and logos in order to persuade the audience into believing athletes should be paid more.
Wouldn't it be great to make $100 million a year simply to play a game? JJ Watt, along with other professional athletes think so. But do these athletes really deserve all that money? In my opinion I think there paychecks are a little too much .
One of the lucrative activities that many colleges use are their sports. Just as their professional counterpart, crowds of people pay to see their favorite team, or in this case college, go against a rival team. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), reportedly made billions of dollars in revenue off college sports. Though, this aroused a serious issue, as none of the college athletes, the ones who made such a revenue possible, never received any of the profit. As college sports grows ever more popular, should they start paying their athletes? The answer is yes they should for the athletes as they put a lot of work, many of them live in poverty, and colleges makes profit
“In 2012 the lowest paid Bulls player earned about 850,000 dollars,” according to the “Two Sides To Every Coin” article. That is more than the average household earns in 16 years. Why should athletes get paid so much if families work harder than most pro athletes but get paid less? Athletes are paid huge amounts of money to play even though they don’t know what to do with it.
$29 million, to do half the work that someone with the same occupation as you. Doing half the work should probably mean half the normal pay, but it 's not. Being paid $29 million for any type of work should probably involve running the most prestigious company in the world, or being the first to find the cure for cancer. Not even close. Imagine being paid $29 million to play baseball, and not even the whole season. Welcome to the life of Alex Rodriguez. Alex Rodriguez 's salary in 2013 was $4 million more than the whole Houston Astros roster, making him the highest paid baseball player for the 13th consecutive season (Blum). Although the talent of professional athlete or professional teams should be rewarded through their salaries, there
When sports exploded in the 1900’s athletes were paid like regular working citizens. Most athletes had to work over the summer to keep their mortgages paid. In present day, professional athletes are dished out astronomical salaries in exchange for their play. Many of these athletes have the opportunity to be set for life within the first years of their contracts. Eighteen and nineteen year olds are given multi-million dollar contracts. While these athletes are getting paid these ridiculous amounts of money, we have millions of hard working public service members that are getting the tiniest fractions of some of these contracts. In comparison, “each basket
Student athletes have two jobs to do when they are in college, one is to be an overall great student in the classroom, by maintaining a good grade point average, studying hard for any upcoming exams and pay close attention during class. Their other job is being a phenomenal player in the sport that they play. To do this you need to, work hard and attend every practice, study your playbook or any type of strategy, and to compete at the highest level. This is a lot to handle for a college student. There are over 460,000 student athletes in all of the divisions in the NCAA today. With this large number of student athletes it seems
Athletes should not earn much more than professionals who save lives, educate the population, and professionals who put their lives in risk for others. These athletes become idols and heroes in the society for being seen every week on the TV and be constantly on the news. When the real idols and heroes are the ones
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
The passages present a discussion about arguments concerning whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. This is an important debate since professional sports represents a multi-billion-dollar-per-year industry. The two positions argue whether or not professional athletes should be paid the large yearly salaries they are paid. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence suggests that people with far more important jobs are paid much less than professional athletes; in contrast, opposing evidence suggests that since professional athletes generally have short careers and must train very hard to build and maintain their skills, the higher salary is justified. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the viewpoint that professional athletes are not overpaid is the best-supported position, the position supported by the preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The strongest and best reasons supporting this position are that professional athletes must endure grueling and intensive training, they generally have short careers that often end in injury, and the amount that they are thought to be paid is often inflated. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next.
Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money. Do you agree or disagree with these individuals making high salaries? Use specific details and examples to convince others to support your position.
The disparity of wages between celebrities and professionals has only recently come to the forefront. Some are of the opinions that there is no bias in payments and each profession is rightly paid; however, my personal perspective is that there is an enormous gap between the money earned by artists and medical or academic professionals. In the following paragraphs, I will explore the rationale for both beliefs as well as proffer rationale for my own viewpoint on the matter.
“I hope everybody could get rich and famous and will have everything they ever dreamed of, so they will know that it's not the answer.” (Jim Carrey), this applies to all fields in media. Nowadays, celebrities are overpaid and overrated with no reasons although they are corrupting our youth and they get paid for doing unmoral things. Celebrities are overpaid for the negative role they play since they manipulate people, promote twisted values and they are seeking money only without moral messages.
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding
