The processes and strategies described in this section and along the textbook, are essential resources for teacher to engage students and assist them to reach the academic goals aligned with the common core standards. In reflecting on what you have learned about professional development, how would you support yourself and some department colleagues in learning to implement multiple intelligences as an instructional strategy?
In order to implement multiple intelligences as instructional strategies teachers should take advantage of professional development opportunities, which are aligned with standards and assessments. But also, “Working with others as a team on planning can be an exciting and rewarding strategy. Diversity in people and ideas create a richer outcome” (p. 336). Therefore, it’s crucial that teacher get together to develop a culture of collaboration and teamwork being able to participate in PLC meetings, peer coaching, mentoring beginning teachers, etc. When teachers work together sharing their knowledge, they are able to implement a wide variety of strategies to differentiate instruction and provide support to meet each student
This learning experience is designed for a year 1 class (middle of the year) with diverse learning needs. The lessons take into account Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory and caters for EAL/D, students who are ready to move beyond the lesson and students who are not ready to move beyond the lesson. The activities seen in the three lessons may be modified to suit the needs of individual students (refer to catering for diversity).

curriculum. Additionally, this enables for a higher than usual level of explicit teaching in all subject areas. However, it does not make integrated curriculum delivery very viable. Fortunately, Mrs. Bea has an innovative teaching style and adjusts her teaching to cater to Gardner’s multiple intelligences (1983) and diverse learning styles.
The edTPA lesson segment, incorporated a variety of learning styles that have been established by Howard Gardner and his Multiple Intelligence Theory. My activities have been effective in helping students learn content specific material while also establishing 21st century skills.
Professional development is the development of new or existing skills, knowledge and aptitudes to improve one’s marketablilty, portability, performance and self worth (McKellar, 1996). This paper outlines my top three professional goals, resources required for achieving these goals, and a resource constrained schedule. The strategic formulation of my goals, required resources and schedule coalesce to form my Professional Development Plan (PDP). The first goal is a short term goal required for financing the second goal which is my medium term goal. The final goal is a long term goal that is loosely coupled with my second goal.
Out of the two selected choices, I chose to summarize Chapter 5, Evaluation of A Professional Development Technology Project in A Low-Performing School District. This case study first highlights the importance of understanding benchmarks for an evaluation; through the duties of Samantha Brown, Director of Special Projects. One of her responsibilities was to pursue and oversee special projects outside the district’s curriculum and funding. Second, the use of a logic model gives her a template for writing a grant. A logic model is an organizer used by evaluators to think about, collect, and manage difference kids of data, (Spaulding 2004). Lastly, this case shows the benefits of having a logic model and the possible challenges of collecting
In the twenty first century, teachers have to collaborate with other professionals to promote student learning and establish a learning environment where students interact positively and share their knowledge. There are many different activities that teachers have to implement in the classroom so students can maximize their learning. In order for students to learn and achieve their goals in the classroom, teachers have to implement effective strategies and meaningful activities that motivate students to work collaboratively with other students. Communication skills are necessary for collaboration in the classroom and listening techniques must be modeled by the teacher implementing effective questioning strategies (Friend & Bursuck, 2009). Regardless of the previous experience you may have in a healthcare setting, it is always important to know where you can go to seek professional development opportunities. In the healthcare industry, there are many different professional organizations that have been created for nearly every professional in the healthcare industry, from nurses, to radiology techs, to administrative professional, and these organizations provide many opportunities for those professional members in the healthcare industry. This paper will cover one specific professional organization for the development of administrative professionals. It will cover the opportunities provided by this specific organization as well as the importance of joining this organization and
I like the point you made regarding training for the team. I do feel that in any organization you have to take a proactive approach and plan ahead for different scenarios. I do feel that this incident could had been avoided had they planned for the possibility of things going wrong. However, it’s impossible to predict certain things because we have no control of them like in this case, but I feel that adequate training could have changed the outcome. The problem here was that they did not follow orders and as a result some lives were lost. Unfortunately, before changes are made in an organization it usually a result of something that went wrong.
Harris and Anthony (2001) The nature of collegiality and its role in teachers’ professional development is explored by comparing two data sets: one analysing the interviews with a veteran social studies teacher reflecting on her 30-year teaching career, and the other analysing the conversations of six beginning teachers as they participated in a shared inquiry group. Two different types of relationships with colleagues are described, one that provides a supportive working environment and one that results in significant professional growth. Implications for in-service professional development are discussed. In summary, providing teachers opportunities for continued development as they practice their profession is crucial for meaningful change
The nature of what was newly learned varied according to professional roles and from specialty to specialty. It ranged through such categories as knowledge, psychomotor skills, managerial skills, leadership skills, technological skills, implementation, appraiser of literature, screening of research proposals and mediation. The other dimension to learning was variously described as “affirmation”, as “reaffirmation”, as “confirming my own practice”, as “having my thoughts confirmed by somebody else”, and “something that […] confirms any uncertainties I may have had about my own level of knowledge, [and] so reassures me that I know what I’m doing”. The questionnaire results supported the interview findings. They indicated the extent to which the
Every employee is hired with a certain set of skills, knowledge, and abilities that match or closely match the role and responsibilities for a specific position. It is inevitable that roles and responsibilities for a position are going to change; especially when an organization changes to remain competitive. When those changes do occur, the employer has a corporate social responsibility to invest in their human capital. It certainly should not be the responsibility of the employee to invest his or her own resources for professional development (Constatine, 2012, para. 2).
This paper demonstrates how important it is for early education professionals to be involved in professional development. Professional development allows the educator to continue his or her education to provide the best and more updated learning experience to young students. In this paper, three professional developments opportunities offered by Indiana State University will be discussed as well as my personal reflections on the event.
This research task is to expand on personal professional development, as it helps to gain a better understanding of the implementation of free-flow play and the positive impacts it could have on the children, staff and the setting.
If a teacher is having difficulty reaching a student in the more traditional linguistic or logical ways of instruction, the theory of multiple intelligences suggests several other ways in which the material might be presented to facilitate effective learning.
