The Progressives came from a long line of middle class people that believed in possessing a strong will over the poor. Just like every caste system, the blue-blooded, native stock were at the top, and the poor as well as the “dark-skinned” were at the bottom. When the Progressive’s began to take over it required the poor to take on an even greater amount of responsibility than they’ve ever had to take on before. Eleanor Roosevelt was a woman that grew up in this time period. She was a politician, diplomat, and activists who held the longest serving First Lady of the United States. Eleanor Roosevelt has an excellent quote that she once stated that represents the time of Progressivism wonderfully: “In that society you were kind to the poor, you did not neglect your …show more content…

In contrast, the Gilded Age was a time of major social and economic change. The Gilded Age increased industrialization, urbanization, transcontinental railroads, innovations in science and technology, and the rise of businesses very rapidly.
However when the Gilded Age got in a bind the Progressive Era took over and was then left fixing all the issues that were left behind from the Gilded Age. In return, there was a benefit from having to fix these issues that were left behind from the past. The Progressive Era was formed in hope to fix what was going on due to the rapid social and economic growth. The people involved in the Progressive Era wanted all voices to be heard and to promote the general welfare of all American citizens. The Progressives demanded that the government take control and force changes in economics, politics, and society. Furthermore, they used the government to reform problems of industrialization and urbanization that was caused in the Gilded Age. The
