Hollywood and history don’t always match up, most times you see a movie about a historical event it’ll say “Based on a True Story”. Based on a true story, not this is a true story, not and this is how it happened, based on a true story. Hollywood changes, edits, adds and removes things they don’t deem worthy of mentioning because they think it’s boring or insignificant, so it’s not really known how much of the movie is true and what's been edited, added, or completely removed.
Project Argo happened between 1979 and 1980. During the 1979 hostage crisis in Iran 6 American citizens were able to escape the us embassy and seek protection with diplomats from other countries. Eventually they all found safety with Canadian diplomat Ken Taylor. The CIA was given the task of extracting the 6 Americans without letting them be caught by the Iranian people or the Iranian government. Project Argo led by Antonio “Tony” Mendez had the goal of posing as a film crew trying to use a location in Iran to

In bridge of spies there are some things in there that were added and somethings that were removed. Like how there was another student that the East Germans had that they released a few years after the trade off that gave Russia Abel and the U.S. Pryor and Powers. There's a scene while on the train a bunch of germans are trying to escape over a fence and are shot to death, that happened but it wasn’t witnessed by Donovan like the movie says. And after Donovan represented Able yes people were angry and disapproved of what Donovan, he got angry letters and calls, his wife and kids lost some friends, but nobody shot out the windows of his and his families house, that was all added to add more action and drama. But the main difference is that all of this happened over a span of five years not the few weeks or months that the movie
Although many historical filmmakers alter some events and use fiction as a tool in providing an accurate historical representation, the makers of “The
When watching a film about history being 100% accurate may not make the movie as enjoyable to viewers, so I believe a lie here or there wouldn’t hurt. Movies are made for entertainment, so if someone wants accuracy then they should watch a documentary. But this movie did a good job staying true to history and the events of its time.
The film “Juvies” really made me think about how the criminal justice system treats young children. Before watching the film, I was under the impression that children were treated fairly and with care when they commit a crime. After all, they are just kids. However, to my surprise, this was not the case. Many children have been cheated by the law because they are put through the adult system and are not given a fair trial. Meanwhile, these children are expected to make the rational decisions that an adult would make. There is biological evidence that kids do not have the ability to control impulsive behavior because their brains are underdeveloped. Thus, I believe this system is extremely unfair because children are not protected in adult prisons, which makes it very difficult for them to succeed once they are released back into the free world.
One of the symbolic representations in La Mission is where it takes place, in the mission district of San Francisco. It represents the traditional stance of Che the main character and compares it to the shift to a more hipster neighborhood with new people like Lena moving in who haven’t been in the neighborhood until recently. He also restores old cars into low riders which is historically Mexican American style of car. The music featured in this movie is a mix of traditional chorales, native drums and guitars mixed with newer more modern version that also show the transition that this community and culture are facing coming to terms with change and homosexuality that is culturally unacceptable.
Did you know people do not think if the story from history movie is a truly based on real history or filled with fiction? Almost every history movie contains some kind of fiction in it to make it a great story and to keep the audience's entertained. For example, the movie called “The Patriot” which was the American Revolution had happen. The movie has some historical accuracy but there are some historical inaccuracies also.
In the society that we live in, truth is often twisted, hidden, or lost due to a variety of reasons. By changing the truth, you are able to position the responders, into feeling particular emotions. Have you ever told a small white lie to protect the feelings of someone? Or maybe exaggerated a story to make it seem more funny? These techniques are often used by directors and filmmakers to make their movie more interesting. The film The Hurricane, based on Rubin Carter, a boxer who was sent to prison for allegedly committing a triple murder that he did not commit, would show factual events of his lifetime, right? The director Norman Jewison, in fact changed and twisted several events in order to manipulate and persuade the audience to feel empathy
The text, or more so the movie about the text, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, does a good job of portraying race, class and gender. During the setting of the book, many people looked at white Americans to be superior to the Black, African American race. With this being said, the successful white families hired in the African American women to cook, clean, and in most cases, take care of the children. They were known as the help. Throughout both the book and the movie, the African American women experienced many forms of gender, race and class inequality.
In today society, many young black males are mistreated by police officers all around the world. In 2015, there were a lot of cases where young black males were beat up and some even died from the physical altercation and misconduct by the police officers. I felt that it was two concepts that show up in Fruitvale Station, which was racial profiling and police brutality. Some statistic from this past year, 91people was killed by police in the month of January alone; at least 1,106 people were killed in 2014. As of February 15, there were at least 136 individuals killed by police. (Fairbanks, 2015).Racial profiling can be defined as discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting of individuals for crime based on the individual’s
Argo by Antonio Mendez is about a crisis that occurs with Iran and the United States embassy in November 4,1979 with six diplomats who ran away as “Iranian students” or just
The biggest accurate piece of the move is actually entire plot, that the CIA saved hostages out of Iran by pretending to be a Hollywood film crew. It is such an outrageous fact that many would believe that would be one Hollywood liberty taken and yet the real Tony Mendez swears those moments are true. That the CIA spent money to “...create a fake movie and production company...set up an office...print fake business cards, held a party at a Los Angeles nightclub and took out film ads” (Washington Times)
This Blog will be focused on a collective response to my classmates’ post on the “Re-viewing the past” assignment. What did you learn from reading your classmates' posts to "Blog #1: Re-Viewing the Past"? I learned that a majority of the student’s felt that the inaccuracies in the movies would more than likely have a negative impact on the truth of American history. However, many also felt that the historical inaccuracies where necessary for entertainment purposes in order to keep the audience’s attention. Seldom did someone completely disagree with the director’s interpretation of the past; however, they felt that the inaccuracies did harm our knowledge of the past. Overall I learned from my classmates’ that we share similar opinions on this matter, and that the audiences should not take movies at face value, but instead research the historical event being directed to gather the most facts possible to learn the truth.
Freedom and equalities are the undeniable rights of a person that were confirmed by God and the humanities. However, there is no easy way to have those rights , they are only deserved for the people who fight for it. Let’s take the film Hidden Figures as a good illustration for this point. The movie describes the three brilliant black women--Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughan-- who worked in NASA and their fights to gain the respects from the white men with two factors: their talents and their character-traits.
The movie Argo is a visual production of an event called the Iranian Hostage Crisis that happened in the 1980’s. The Iranian Hostage Crisis happened when the U.S decided to take one of Iran’s previous Shah and treat him for cancer. This led to many Iranian people storming the U.S embassy, and taking over 60 hostages. These hostages were held for 444 days before being released. Argo was based on a rescue mission called ‘The Canadian Caper” in which six americans escaped capture and hid in the Canadian residence. There were many discrepancies between the movie and the events, one of the most political being the undermining role of Canada and the fact that they left out many people that contributed greatly in the efforts of saving the hostages.
Most of the science fiction works contain a crucial message that the writer wishes to convey to the viewers. There are two categories of film message, one is positive and the other is negative. A positive message is one that is expected to have favourable outcome to the audience, and continuously aiming to promote better societal changes. In contrast, a negative message is one that could deliver threats or unpleasant information to the audience, which could have significant impact on the normal order of the society. This essay will argue that if the message contains positive elements, then it is not a bad sign to embed science fiction works with a message. First, this essay will suggest that the well-integrated message within a particular
