The case study in question relates to a proposed dress code for the players in the National Basketball League (NBL). Dress code requirements must not discriminate against members of protected groups as outlined in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In order to adequately analyze this issue, we must look at possible areas of discrimination including religious, racial, gender and disability discrimination. In this particular case the players are claiming racial discrimination against the NBL and its commissioner. In order to promote a better public image, the NBL and its commissioner, Mr. David Firm decided to institute a new dress code. This dress code is “business casual” and additionally prohibits any headgear from being worn while the players are on the bench, in the stands or in plain sight of the public. The intent of the NBL is to improve its image and revive the popularity of the league among its paying customers and corporate sponsorship. As a student enrolled in a graduate sport law class, several issues were raised regarding this situation by a few activist players, namely, I.M. Pacer, M.E.Sixer, and I. Warrior (Sharp et al., 2014). Any racial harassment claim would be based on the application of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII states that it is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against any individual’s employment status based on race. Everyone has a gender. It is something we are born into, and has an impact on every aspect of our lives. It affects how we walk, talk, and act on a daily basis. What truly is gender though? Gender is what defines many facets of our culture, and differentiates the roles people take on as men or women. Today, most countries define gender as the genetic and biological traits we are born with. However, what if someone felt they were supposed to be the opposite gender of the one they were born into? That is precisely the feeling that transgenders have from a young age. The feeling of not belonging in their own body and wanting to be someone else. To make things even harder, what if they were also an athlete? Not only would they feel like they don 't belong in their own body, but the sports they want to play or already play would be affected. With that, this paper will look at and discuss eligibility in sports, equality in the locker room, and self worth both on and off the field for transgender athletes.

The game is played anywhere where you can get a ball and something to throw the ball through. “G.L Pierce patented basketball on June 25, 1929.” (Bellis, “Basketball-James Naismith”). Basketball became an official Olympic sport in the 1936 game.
Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle, a member from the other team kicked Michael in the head. Michael did nothing to react in a threatening way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the other team did not get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called “un-sportsman like conduct” for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything wrong. Another example of discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was blocking a player on the other team. Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee’s called out his team. The coach asked the referee what they did wrong and they responded by saying, “I don’t know… excessive blocking.” The referee’s obviously did not have a significant reason for blowing their whistles and they likely would not have mentioned it if Michael was white.
In this analysis I will cover the different aspects of sport subculture and what it means to be a recognizable member within a group. I will give examples of what it means to be a part of such subcultures. For example, shared ways of dressing, group status and credibility, as well as some of the groups norms and rituals. The specific group I will discuss will be my basketball team and the role I play within it. By federally mandating every business to review the history, impact and proposed policy of Article VII these lawsuits may subside. Reviewing Title VII is a step corporate America must soon make or continue to loose much needed revenue. The Women’s National Basketball Association, more commonly known as the WNBA, is a professional basketball league consisting of 12 teams spanning across the United States. The league was founded in 1996 but didn’t officially kick off until 1997. While it’s not the first major women’s professional basketball league in the United States, the WNBA is the only league that has received full backing from the National Basketball Association, more commonly, the NBA. Now in its 20th season under the direction of league president Lisa Borders, the regular season is played from June to September with the playoffs spanning through the remainder of September into the middle of October. Although they have the full backing from the NBA, there are still a few discrepancies between the two leagues. Even though WNBA games are not as exciting as NBA games, the players of the WNBA deserve equal pay because the team mindset makes the game more challenging, players continue to show their hard work in the offseason by playing overseas, and they inspire young girls by providing for charities as a result of their work.

Whether it is being passed over for a promotion at the job or being underpaid, some people have to deal with unfair practice that would prevent someone of color or the opposite sex from having equal opportunity at the job. In 2004, Dukes vs. Wal-Mart Stores Incorporation was a civil rights class-action suite that ruled in favor of the women who worked and did not received promotions, pay and certain job assignments. This proves that some corporations ignore the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which protects workers from discrimination based on sex, race, religion or national origin.
Although men and women’s basketball are closer to being equal than softball and baseball, the leagues are still separate. America has a women’s league and a men’s league and never the two shall meet. A woman is not allowed in the NBA since she has the WNBA. The separation is strong, obvious, and seemingly permanent. Like basketball, they created softball to play indoors during the winter. The game earned the name softball and due to its easier properties was often “regarded as baseball’s stepchild” (Ring, p. 60). They passed the game down to women, as it seemed safe enough to limit the risk of injury. And so the separation began.

The workplace, especially in the sport field, can be very diverse and continues to grow. In February 2015, NBA player, Chris Paul, was fined $25,000 for commenting on female referee Lauren Holtkamp for giving him a technical foul for arguing with her. He commented on the subject after the game stating, “[That call was] ridiculous. If that’s the case, this might not be for her” (Almasy, 2015).
