Although social networking has many pros such as the fact that we can communicate with people around the world, it also can have a negative impact on youth and young adults. Youth and young adults struggling to fit in are big targets for cyber bullying on social networking sites. There are many cyber bullies on social networking sites right now trolling many innocent people and leaving them with mental scars while staying anonymous. Cyber bullies threaten, harass, and torment young adults and youth by sending anonymous texts, emails, and comments. They can even pose as someone you personally know. Cyber bullying can leave people with stress anxiety and depression. Some victims of cyberbullying even committed suicide. Social networking sites can rob you of your privacy. Posting things online can lead to identity theft, stalkers, and robbery. If you post your location, people all around the world can get your address. If you are on vacation and post something about it, many people will find out that your house is empty. Social networking can also prevent you from getting a job. Many jobs run background checks and check the internet for anything you have left behind. If you post an embarrassing picture of you at some party, and the company that ran the background check on you finds that post, you will have lost a potential job just because you posted one thing that you thought was funny or cool. Social networking can also lead to things like decreased productivity. Many people constantly check their friends post or their status rather than working. It's a distraction that can lead to you not focusing on important things at school or work.
