Abstract: Prostate cancer is the leading mortality cancer amongst males. This cancer is due to the signaling increase of androgen and androgen receptors, which is a gene that associates with the risk of prostate cancer. Over expression of androgen receptors occurs in androgen independent cancer. Prostate tumors advance to androgen-independent state where they progress in the absence of circulating testosterone. Typically, treatments for prostate cancer are surgery and radiation. Most effective treatments in the early stage of prostate cancer includes suppression of AR function either by blocking androgen signaling with anti-androgen bicalutanmide (Casodex) or flutamide or by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to the potent androgen …show more content…
Although PA is most abundant, EA has been shown in other studies to exhibit anticarcinogenic properties such as induction of cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis as well as the inhabitation of tumor formation and growth particularly in animals. Studies show that consumption of phytochemical-rich diet reduces the risk of prostate cancer. With that being said, in this study there were several experiments done to show the correlation of how pomegranate in the form of POMx, PJ, PA and EA will help reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer by reducing the signaling of AR. Although studies have yet to find the mechanism of gene down regulation there have been several studies that show that the LNaCP-AR cell line is overexpressed which leads to prostate cancer. In this study the cells lines LNCaP and LNcAP-AR cell lines are closely examined. The main aim of this study is to show how pomegranate and its polyphenols can reduce the androgen receptors that are overexpressed to decrease the risk of prostate cancer and the tumor size of prostate cancer.
Methods:
1. POMx: standardized extract of pomegranate fruit contains monomeric and oligomeric ellagitannins as PA (37-40%) and 3.4% free EA but no anthocyanins as determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
2. PJ: Whole pomegranate juice in concentrated powder form contains 1 mg/ml punicalagin, 0.97 mg/ml EA and anthocyanins
3. PA: Purified from fruit husk and contains monomeric and oligomeric analyzed by HPLC and liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (LC-
Mulberry and blueberry are examples of the berries species that contain high antioxidants and low in calories. These berries may contribute in minimizing and preventing the risk of diabetes due to the presence of high amounts of phenolic compound and flavonoids such as anthocyanin. It may exhibit neuroprotective and anticancer activity (Wang Y, Xiang L, Wang C, Tang C, He X, 2013). The reaction of the antioxidants in berries related to the reduction of oxidative stress and inhibition of macromolecular oxidation in fruits that high in phenolic compound (Larson, 1988). The anthocyanin content also have other health-related function such as anticancer, antiaging and antiobesity. However, the research regarding these functions still in progress and some of the research still needs a further improvement. The rich content of poplyphenol in berries helps in reducing the oxidation and producing the insulin to reduce the blood glucose
The pathway begins with an androgen receptor, which binds different androgens, such as estrogen and testosterone. (Estorgen is the hormone mainly found in women although, men also have it. The form men have it in is called estradilol) The androgen receptor is recognized by the ligands 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone, which are both present in male sexual development. After the testosterone is formed it is bound to a serum sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and begins to circulate through the body. However, just because the SHBG is bound to the testosterone only the free form of testosterone can enter into the prostate. Once inside the prostate, the testosterone has changed into a more potent form of itself, allowing the prostatic cells to begin to grow. When these cells begin to grow, the prostate does as well. [2] Since testosterone is derived from a cholesterol molecule, it can easily pass through membranes, like the plasma membrane, because it is hydrophobic. Other studies believe that a mutation in the androgen receptor is found to increase the cancer stage. These mutations are found between zero to four percent in the latent stage and stage B prostate tumors. (Stage B prostate cancer is a cancer that can be found during a digital rectal exam and is limited to the prostate. It is also
Traditionally men are expected to be the stronger sex, the breadwinner, the hunter- gatherer, but when it comes to prostate cancer men can feel powerless. Hormone therapies are used to chemically castrate men as a means of treating the cancer through more personalised medicine. However, when the cancer becomes refractory, Docetaxel is used as a first line chemotherapy to treat metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer in combination with Prednisolone. Mr. Smith (pseudonym) was diagnosed with Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer which was controlled by Abiraterone Acetate (an androgen biosynthesis inhibitor and works by inhibiting the CYP17 enzyme that is used to feed the cancer) until the cancer started to progress, and was
While many illnesses and diseases are well understood, prostate cancer is one of the remaining cancerous conditions that is shrouded in misunderstanding. There are several main reasons for this, not the least of which is that men as a group, simply do not want to deal with this very common no cancerous condition.
A study that was done by Chen et al observed that androgens like testosterone were vital in the growth and maintenance of prostate cancer. Subsequently, they gave large doses of these androgens to rodents. The other observations included the incidence of prostate cancer was very low in men who were castrated, and androgens stimulate the in vitro
Papain. Papain, Carica papaya (Cat: 5125, EMD Millipore Corp., Billerica, MA) had listed activity of 31850 U/mg and stock solution was prepared by adding 0.31 gram in 10 ml Tris (0.05 M, pH 7.4) i.e. concentration of 1000 KU/ml.

There are men who can be in a percentile of having prostate cancer and unaware of what is going on with their body do to the lack of knowledge about prostate cancer. One main reason most men are unaware of the dangers of this illness is because it is not talked about enough amongst their peers. The advertisement is very veg to whom prostate cancer effects and may not be advertised enough. According to cancer.org there are about one in every seven men that will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the ages of 65 and older, and it is rare before age 40. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About one in every 36 men diagnosed will die of prostate cancer. Just as all men have a prostate all men should be aware of what the terms and symptoms of prostate cancer are and what can be done to help slow this growing illness.

A more specific definition of lung cancer is that it is a type of cancer that happens when a cell starts to grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor in one or both lungs (2). Although lung cancer can start in other places of the respiratory system, it usually begins in the lining of the bronchi (3). It begins due to a change, or mutation, in a cell's genetic material, which leads the cell losing its ability to control its growth (2). This mutation is caused by environmental or hereditary reasons, but doctors usually are not able to identify the exact cause (4). However, it is important to examine a cancerous cell under a microscope because that helps the doctors identify the type of lung cancer, so they can give the best treatment to the patients
The key role of testosterone in the growth of prostate cancer was first demonstrated back in 1941 (Huggins, 1941); since then, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) has provided the mainstay of treatment for patients with hormone-sensitive advanced prostate cancer. Although ADT is palliative, it can normalize serum levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in over 90% of patients and can produce objective tumour responses in 80-90%. This antitumor activity can improve quality of life (QOL) by reducing bone pain as well as the rates of complications (eg, pathologic fracture, spinal cord compression, ureteral obstruction). The duration of response to ADT for patients with metastatic disease is highly variable, and most prostate cancer patients eventually
All ingredients are natural, wholesome, and fully suitable for vegans. This protein powder features a blend of organic proteins from sprouted rice, sprouted yellow pea and hemp. The keyword here is sprouted: sprouting any grains, legumes or seeds neutralizes phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. Neutralizing enzyme inhibitors is important as they do not only inhibit enzymes in the actual seed but can also inhibit your own enzymes once ingested. Hemp seeds in this powder are not sprouted as they do not contain any harmful phytic acid and are easily digestible.
Cancer of glandular cells is adenocarcinoma. The American Cancer Society (ACS) has also specified possible cancers being sarcomas, small cell carcinomas, and transitional cell carcinomas. Prostate cancer develops when the rates of cell death and cell division are no longer equal causing uncontrolled tumor growth. These mutations of genes often lead to metastasis and tumor progression (Chodak, 2012). Often times if the tumor metastasis, it usually impacts important organs. Most cases of prostate cancer are multifocal which involves multiple portions of the prostate which can be due to nonclonal tumors (Chodak, 2012). When the tumor has distant metastasis it usually spreads to bone early (often the first sign of disease due to pain), and directly spreads through the lymphatic’s and venous spaces into the lower lumbar spine. There have been many reports of tumors of the prostate metastasis that have reached the lungs, liver, and adrenal’s (Chodak, 2012). Pathological fractures can occur due to metastasis, as well as weight loss, anemia, shortness of breath, and pain (Porth 2011). Most men with early stage prostate cancer are asymptomatic. Depending on the size and location of the cancer, there may be effects that can be seen on the host. These effects include; urgency, frequency, nocturia, hesitancy, dysuria, hematuria, or blood with
3.1. HPLC Profiles of BGE. To investigate the stability of the BGE water decoction, we repeated the same extraction step was repeated times to obtain BGE and then determined the berberine hydrochloride content in BGE was detected by HPLC analysis and at a dectection wavelength of 203 nm with a C18 column (Fig. 1). The content of ginsenosides such as ginsenoside Rg5, Rk1, and Rh4 in BGE are summarized in Table 1. These unique ginsenosides are nonexistent in white ginseng. The major ginsenosides, including Rb1, Rb2, Rc, and Rd in white ginseng can be transformed to minor ginsenoside Rg3, by and than then ginsneoside Rg3 is converted to Rg5 and Rk1 by heat-treatmentheating (1). In particular, delycosylated minor ginsenosides have more pharmaceutical activities than major ginsenosides (2).
Therefore, these compounds have been used as medicine in traditional system of medicare in India, Pakistan, China, Srilanka, Japan and other Asian and African countries These are also used for preservation of foods and as spices in kitchen in many parts of the world since time immemorial. More than 200,000 defined structures of plant secondary compounds have been identified. These PSM can generally be classified into three major groups: saponins, tannins and essential oils (EO) (Kamra et al., 2008).
