Week Two Threaded Discussion
I belive that what each of us could do is to look at ourselves and let the change start with us from within, we each could pay more attention to how we treat people and what we say to others. Be mindful of how you see speak and treat other people even if they are not from another culture. Yes I have been talked down to because I was a woman. While remaining professional I answered the question and let the person talking to me which happened to be my boss at the time and kindly said to him not only women cook good but men can cook good to.

Growing up as a young lady, my family had many do’s and do not’s. My mother would always say “you are black and a girl, they will always under estimate you”. My family theory always was that you have to dress to impress and you have to look presentable. My family wasn’t the only people who told me this, many teachers and mentors have said this as well. They have always made the point of you have to be frim and upright because men will try to put you down in any situation where their power is being challenged. That being said that our society is patriarchal, men has always been put in charge and women has frequently has to battle with equality in this country. I do believe that is the biggest take away these strong women in my life wanted
Evaluation as an end in itself is a very different process from counseling. Why would a counselor want to be an evaluator?
The goal of parole is to reduce recidivism and help rehabilitate offenders. That is not always the case; offenders will reoffend anyways and be sent back to prison to finish out their sentence. There are many programs out there that try to help parolees become a part of the community again and stay out of trouble. The programs are out there; it is up to the parolees to join them and stay committed. The programs goals are to help the offenders reintegrate into society by using procedures and community resources.
In countless circumstances, especially in the work force, there are oppressors and there are those who are oppressed against. If one chooses to permit the act of being demoted upon then they will continue to be underestimated and continue to be mistreated. For those who are petrified of speaking out regarding unjust situations they endure, there are people that are willing to promote and try to stop the unjust ways people face when working. Generally in the society we live in today, men do not think women are in any way superior or could make a difference; whether that be in politics or the type of profession that women chooses to practice. Certain people cannot comprehend or step out of this negative critical view point they have towards
Thank you for sharing this story with us. Your client has a very sad story. Through your kind words, I can see that she is a strong individual who does not want to show any signs of weakness. However, she is putting on a brave face even though she is going through the darkest part of her life right now. Although it may seem like she will eventually get past this, recovery for athletes with eating disorder are highly unlikely. She will fall into a cycle of doing poorly in competitions which will cause more pressure, this pressure will lead to being more reliant on control of her intake of food. She needs everyone important in her life to gather for an intervention for her. However, by the looks of this case it seems she has very few people in
A team meeting was held at Lutz today with Scott, his parents, this counselor, his teacher Mrs. Shannon, Vice Principle Nick DeVault, acting Principle John Nader, and Transition Coordinator Joe Delegato. The meeting was set to discuss Scott's participation in the STEP program and what his family is looking for when it comes to his MRS case and employment. Scott's teacher feels that STEP isn't necessarily the right placement for him and wanted to discuss this with the team. Scott's parents stated, " we have always felt like Scott has never been in the right placement. He is either to low functioning or two high functioning for the program he is in. We agree that his options need to be explored." His teacher Mrs. Shannon then went on to explain that although Scott does quality work on his sites, is always friendly, and hard working, there are a lot of concerns that are holding him back in the program. Shannon stated, " Scott has trouble staying focused, requires a lot of reminders, wonders a lot, takes a long time to complete a task (2 times the amount needed), is unable to work fast paced or multi-task, can't typically be left alone, and communicates inappropriately at times. Shannon stated that his need for constant supervisor and inappropriate communication is her biggest concern. Shannon stated that Scott often sings My
There are many factors that can influence a person’s interpretation of a situation. Cultural background, religion, prior experiences, or something as simple as a person’s mood can affect the outlook they have toward situations. Two individuals can witness the same event and have opposite reactions or interpretations of the incident. One instance of this can be illustrated by the observations of interaction between a group of friends and a man who was seemingly down on his luck.
Surveillance is a mechanism of social control which involves watching and otherwise monitoring the movements, activities, conversations, and associations of people to prevent them from engaging in wrongdoing; to catch those who are engaged in wrongdoing; and to ensure that the public is protected from wrongdoers. Electronic monitoring, interception of letters and email, and telephone tapping are all examples of surveillance activities. An example of surveillance is Price Chopper putting up security cameras all over their premises. There are times where I have to go into Price Chopper late at night because either my sisters want different snacks or the stock of food in my household is low. I feel safer parking in the parking lot knowing that
Thinking back on my anger with a medical professional, No I did not seethe, I spoke up but not angerly. I was the angry patient and someone used the universal upset protocol on me, they would first tell me I sound upset, I would respond with a yes I am and my response would be to tell them calmly, why or what happen to make me upset. Then I would begin to tell them all the other things wrong medically. And when they start to seem like they really want to help, I would calm down even more. Now calmed down I am able to communicate better. Therefore I would be able to talk and listen. Hopefully taking away something that would help me.
This study includes the results from the three participants, Mathew, Mark and Luke. The figures will be represented by the X- axis, which will show the sessions, and the Y-axis, which will display the number of times the participant engaged in the vocal stereotypy during the sessions. All data from the IOA agreement was calculated for 25% of each participant and will be included within the recoding. The ESE teacher was the second observer and was trained in all aspects of the study to assist with procedural fidelity. Social validity was taken into consideration by the results rendered from the parent’s observation and recordings.
After learning more about the Pygmalion effect, it typically discusses how individuals often children or students may turn to live up to what’s expected of them, in which they perform better when someone sets high expectations for them. The Pygmalion effect was also called the Rosenthal effect based on the classic experiment by Rosenthal and Jacobson. During their experiment during the beginning of the school year, Rosenthal and Jacobson told the teachers that this test was to predict which students would bloom intellectually during the academic year. Both Rosenthal and Jacobson deceived the other teachers by telling them that the most intellect students have been tested by a new methodology which determines
Column: Weekly TV roundups: Each week we could spotlight the best of television, or even do reviews.
It has become clear that if we do not fix the fact that women are seen by parts in society, it’s going to have a domino effect. It will lead to women being treated as lesser than a man. This will then affect her in a workplace, and her pay. Women are more than just what their appearance is, and should be seen just as men are. As a whole person, mind included. I believe one day these inequalities, the pay gap, the disrespect in the streets, and harsh judgment will soon fade away. It all starts with acknowledging the wrong doing to women in today’s
Gender roles and expectations have a lot of impacts on our society and it needs to be changed in order to create a better civilisation. Although our society has ameliorated tremendously in the past years, there are still some discriminatory actions among genders that are affecting someone 's life negatively. Any remaining differential between genders need to be changed for a better moral standard of living.
