First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read this essay. The opportunity to apply for the Public Service Institute at the Bush School of Government and Public Service has brought me great joy. It has come to my attention that public service should not be considered a temporary job or a way to make money. Rather, seeking to serve others should be a way of life. Professionally speaking, I am working towards a career built around public service. Whether it be serving as an elected representative to the state or federal government, or leading an organization that helps people create better lives for themselves, I want a future that impacts the lives of others in a positive way. I am also interested in the field of foreign policy because I love the United States, and I know that serving as a diplomat on her behalf would be incredible. A job in this field would require me to thoroughly learn the skills of diplomacy, but I cannot help but realize the importance of this profession. I was raised with the fundamental notion of service to mankind, I have always been interested in society’s injustices and problems, and being a catalyst for change. This has brought me to applying to the University of Central Florida’s Master of Nonprofit Management program within the School of Public Administration. I am currently a practitioner in Social Work and serve as the Director of Social Services at the Orlando Area Command of The Salvation Army. I have received my bachelors and master’s degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, FL.
I believe acquiring a PhD from the Hunter College Silberman School of Social work will enable me to strengthen these fields, regardless of me becoming a social worker or a politician. The correlation of my professional and community experience demonstrates to me how imperative the social work is needed within our society. Social work can be utilized to treat communal issues or generate enough support for effective policies. Social work protects, heals, and creates solutions within communities. In correspondence, social work and its different utilizations intrigues me into pursuing my career in government. Social work itself is a dynamic field containing many virtues for professional and social development. Most importantly, I believe that I have the integrity, perseverance, professional experience, and dedication to be a great asset to the prestigious Hunter College Silberman School of Social
I have always been interested in public service and how to help those in my community. In second grade, I became the representative for my class and it gave me a good appreciation for representing others. Later in Boy Scouts, I interviewed Penny Pink who had been appointed to the City Council and thought the position sounded really interesting. I am currently enrolled at Idaho State University for a Master’s degree in Public Administration and have come to believe that public service is essential for community growth and stability.
I will shortly be receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration on business. I will soon leave the world of studies and enter what is commonly referred to as "the real world." While this thought is someone frightening, especially given the current economic situation the nation faces, it is also exciting as well. I believe that crossing this threshold will change the way I view my role in the community, as well as the impact I will have on the community when I graduate. No longer will I see myself as a "child" in society, taking what society has to offer but never thinking of giving back. Instead, I am soon to become a fully fledged member of the community, with responsibilities to the community as a whole.
“When I was four years old I was, and still am, a social chameleon and am comfortable in most groups and cliques which allow me to understand how they behaved and find a way to advise and lead them to the task given at had.” I am writing this essay for the Woodrow Wilson chapter of the national honor society application to give you brief examples of where I show my leadership and service skills.

The reasons that I got into the field of public administration was the community needs and its’ lifeblood. Plus, I have this desire to constant improve the overall policies for the ideal of good government. Ever since I got into the graduate school for a Master of Public Administration at the San Diego State University. I came from a small town in the east and moved to one of major cities in the United States. Everything and everyone from there opened my eyes wide opened to the world and all of its’ opportunities. I felt and recognized that the opportunity for this fellowship will help me with my career-development into full-time with the local government. Let me share my career goal with you, which is to be a City Manager at one day. Or even to be higher and daring than my current goal. I wanted to make a difference like every public servant wants. Despite of that comment I felt that I know what the hardship is like and I am ready to face more of it. As deaf person, which already experienced struggles and constant breaking barriers. While breaking those barriers I found out two key thinking are proactive and strive. Both of them have enhanced my thinking. Just same necessity for the local government to be a good government by being proactive and strive opposed to reactive or survival. I believe that I am capable candidate with great potential to be one of LGMFs. Especially with plenty of room for me to grow within this fellowship.
To summarize I feel that I have grown theoretically over the course of my undergrad; I realize that I have only scratched the surface.
