Pursuing My Educational Goals

Getting my education has always been important to me, however I have not always had the motivation to continue pursuing my degree. For the past four years I have been on and off of school due to my military training, and when I finally became a full-time student, I was determined to only go as far as getting my associate’s degree. As bills were piling up, my frustration grew and I could only think about getting a full-time job to be able to support myself and my family, and attaining my bachelor’s became a distant dream shoved under a list of all my other life priorities. My main goals to assure my academic success in my first semester in college are achieving a 3.0 GPA and prioritizing my school work before anything else. To begin with, making sure to attend all my classes is important because it allows me to be able to learn the material from my professor as well as being able to ask questions to anything I do not understand. Secondly, making sure to complete all my work for every class including work that does not count as credit. Completing all the work assigned to me will enable me to practice the material and maximize my knowledge on the topic. Studying for all my class will further my understandings of the material and better prepare myself for quizzes or exams. Other small goals are limiting my time

Knowing what I excel at has given me the ambition to rise to the challenge of earning a college degree. I have attempted on line school seven years ago and I had to make the difficult decision to withdraw from school when my family and financial obligations became overwhelming. When the nurses first laid their eyes on me as I was born, I am not sure what potential they saw in me – all two pounds and a couple ounces of me. At four months, my mother and father adopted me, and as I matured, my parents enlightened me with the use of books, films, religion, and art. They were not the richest couple in the world, but still insisted on making up for it with firm, unwavering support. Now that I look at the prospects of my future, I am eager to pronounce my college goals. Any outside aid that could be granted to me would surly allow my academic plans to run far more smoothly.

Scholarships are more than just an amount of money; they are are steps to help reach your goal. If I was awarded this scholarship, it would put me one step close to paying for my college education and my goal to help people. My future educational goals are to attend and graduate from Florida A & M University and go on to attend dental school to become an Orthodontist. I plan on majoring in Biology Pre-Dental and hope to partake in many internship programs to gain more experience in the dental field, as well as strengthen my application for dental school. Reflecting back to my senior year, when I had to make the decision of which college I will attend in the fall of 2015. In order to make my decision I had to take into account of what my educational goal were, which career path I wanted to pursue, and how the university will help me to achieve my goals.

The biggest event of my life that has influenced my decision to go back to school is the promise I made to my mother before she passed away. I promised her that I would go back to school and obtain my degree in accounting. I had always wanted to be able to provide my children with a life without the worries that I had to face.

As a home school student, I have flourished in activities that otherwise would not have been available to me. My high school has centered around politics and speech and debate tournaments. The flexibility in my schedule has allowed me to travel to pursue my goals. My parents have allowed me to maximize on my experiences throughout high school.

My education goals, first of all, is to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio. Since I will be the first generation college student in my family, I’ll be the first to experience a college life. In the first 4 years in the University of Texas at San Antonio, I will head straight into the Pre-Medicine programs and any other programs that will help me get into the medical field. During the university experience, I will also want to head into a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (BS) degree. After meeting all my college credit requirements and have taken all the prerequisites for medical school, I will want to continue my journey into the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. My immediate education goals would include: making all A’s this semester, learning as much as I can from my classes, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and graduating with honors, obtaining my Bachelor's in Science of Nursing with a minor in psychology. I also intend on working at VCU Medical Center hospital this summer as a care partner which is another name for certified nurse aid.

My educational goals are to get a bachelor’s degree in Science, along with getting my pilot license and ratings. I intend on specializing in physics. Once I have graduated, I anticipate on starting a career in the aviation industry. I have chosen to apply to science and aviation along with geography and aviation because I enjoy sciences, and physics is my specialty. Also, Geography and aviation because in this program you get to learn a lot of great things such as landforms, weather patterns and etc. Waterloo is the only university in Canada with a program which allows you to get a bachelor’s degree in science or in environmental studies along with flight training. There are several reasons factors that have contributed to my goal of continuing my education. One of which is, I became a mom at the age of 19 and had no clue of what to do. I just graduated high school and was working full time. I had a great support system when it came to my family. Life was such a disaster at this point and I had no idea what to do. I thought about heading back to school but never could find a school that could accommodate my schedule. I called Colorado Christian University a few times for different degree programs I was interested in. First was Early Childhood Education, then came Criminal Justice and lastly was Phycology.

There are multiple difficulties that I will face as I work toward my goal of earning my degree in nursing. I am a mother of a little boy with special needs. My son has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome and he’s sick frequently, when he gets sick he usually has seizures, so unless someone is CPR certified I don’t let anyone watch him. That being said, child care for my son will be one of the biggest difficulties I will face. I will probably miss a lot of school for that reason. Finances may also be a problem I face. I don’t have a very stable financial situation, but to be honest, what college student does? Life throws unexpected set-backs every day. You never know when your car will break down, it snows too much to get to school, or you wake up with the flu.
