7. Response a. Library i. I doubt that Wilson Hall (never heard of it nor been to it) would be big enough for the current student population’s need. To be honest, I think the current library is too small for the student population’s demand. However, I think this could easily be fixed by making the library more space efficient. As of now, there is a lot of space in the library, but not enough places to sit and do work. I think that adding more tables and chairs would allow the library to meet the current demand. ii. I think having a mix of new and old is important for attracting students to Dartmouth. For example, I hate Baker Berry, and I try to not work there. On the other hand, Sanborn Library is absolutely beautiful and the best space for …show more content…
My house, which fits over twenty people, is significantly smaller than the President’s House (which currently houses only two people). As mentioned before, I like space efficiency. Then again, I am from a lower socioeconomic class than most students at Dartmouth. So, my viewpoint on the size of the President’s House is definitely colored by my personal economic situation. ii. What impresses me most about the President’s House is just how big the lawn is. The house itself is large, but the estate is even larger. I find it interesting that we (Americans) emphasize the importance of having both a large house and a lot of land. I suppose that if nothing is around the large structure it looks even bigger. c. Ancient societies i. In applying what I’ve learned from this assignment to our study of ancient societies, I would say that large structures and monuments demonstrate the power of the leaders and give the citizens something to identify with and be proud of as a society. ii. Perhaps, giant structures and monuments are a way to control the population. If I were to look up at the Great Pyramids of Giza as an average citizen, I would think that those who built it (the financers, not the workers) were incredibly powerful. Being overwhelmed by the sheer size would encourage me to stay within the societal rules due to fear of the seemingly god-like or great
Many thought that such monumental architecture would establish their place within the history books. This fascination with gigantism was spurred in part by the size of the cities themselves, some of which were in the hundreds of thousands, with required the extra space in order to accommodate more individuals. Museums and libraries, such as the famous library in Alexandria, were constructed larger than ever before in order to store texts and relics from bygone ages. These objects helped the Hellenistic rulers assert themselves using imperial imagery to legitimize their claims to power.
Throughout the centuries, Ancient Egypt has faced many changes, different Dynasties, rulers and wars. The one thing that has rarely ever changed, is Egyptian religion, and by proxy their temples. Throughout Ancient Egypt, Temples have been a focal point in every village. The temples more often than not were grand displays of extravagance to show a god's strength and power in the mortal world. The temples of Ancient egypt are rife with culture and different architectural designs. The egyptians felt that each god had to be presented to the best of their mortal abilities.

The Colosseum is an important landmark of Rome because it was a gift from the Roman emperor. He gave it to his Roman people, it soon became a symbol of power. The Colosseum was also used to show animal hunts, mock sea battles, reenactment of battles and dramas.
One clear way that Greek architecture is portrayed in today’s culture is how important people are honored. Take a temple for instance. “Many of these temples were built on a large hill known as an acropolis, and it generally included
Hello President Trump. May I interest you in an another multi-million dollar house? Of course, you already own several houses and you are going to live in the White House. But this one is better than the White House.
In conclusion, both the Parthenon and the Pantheon are cultural heritages of two great ancient civilizations that have contributed much to our western society. These buildings serve to remind us of the contribution these great ancient societies our modern societies and of their incredible architectural, artistical and mathematical
The building severed as a justification for the kingdoms claim to power as a political and religious monument. By tying those two together, it creates a divine righteousness where citizens must follow their government faithfully or else they would be seen as sacrilegious. The Hellenistic art, appeals more to the emotional side of Greek citizens, who have gone through unrest with the combination and introduction to more cultures with the growing size of the expanding empire. The familiarity of the myths, that have long been apart of the Greek tradition helps create a sense of relief through the familiarity of stories- many of the citizens probably heard growing up- thus giving a sense of ease and faith in the government during times of war.
