Does your character have what it takes? Sam Haskell states in his book, Promises I Made My Mother, “When you take away everything, when you strip a person of the superficial add-ons, all they have left is their true self”(14). This quote stood out to me because in the world today we base everything we have on physical appearance or by how many material things we can collect. In college we will get to experience many new things and our character will be tested, I plan to work hard to uphold my morals and stay true to myself. Sam also says that “Character is the core of our being” (14); it is what really holds us together and what we should strive to be true to. To me, the qualities that make a strong character are honesty, hard work, and …show more content…
I believe honesty is the best thing to build a friendship on. The second quality that makes a strong character is hard work. By working hard through the next few years I hope to achieve my goal of becoming a pharmacist. Hard work always has its rewards later down the road; they may not come instantly but take time to build up this past year without any kind of warning my dad lost his job in January. After he lost his job, I took on more responsibilities to help out as much as I could. I worked to try to take some stress off my dad by working in the yard so that he would not have to, I cut back on going out on the weekends with my friends, and working hard in school to make sure my grades were really good. I also had to work hard to have patience with God to answer my prayer that my dad would find another job. Finally, almost a year later in December, God answered my prayer. My dad found out he got the job he interviewed for on Christmas day. That was that best Christmas present I could have asked for. I was rewarded in that I knew my dad’s burden had been lifted. Not long ago, my cousin said to me, “College is going to be tough, but if you think about how long your life is your college years will fly by. What you do in college will define what is going to happen in the rest of your life.” Right then I decided that I was going to give it my all and work hard to get the best grades possible.
Each of us possess personal characteristic strengths that makes each of us unique. As individuals these strengths allow us to add value to all of our relationships both personally and professionally. For many of us, we can recognize the characteristics and how they add value to lives, unfortunately though many of us will struggle voicing these strengths openly during job interviews, performance evaluations, or team meetings. One of the first challenges is to understand that we are all lifelong learners and it is through these experiences that we develop these strengths which allows us to become an essential part of a relationship whether it is a personal or professional relationship. As within the realm of a Human Resource Professional the ability to recognize these strengths in people we must also recognize them within ourselves so that we may leverage those skills to advocate for both the employee and the organization. Throughout my life, my strengths have tended to gain more clarity and centered on my profession because form many of the majority of our time is spent there. Some of my personal characteristics that will bring value and strength to any organization are: organization, communication, the ability to be discrete and ethical, conflict management/problem solving and change management. As in many organization HR management requires a very orderly approach. Throughout my

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to every individual. Although what our peers think of us really doesn’t matter, we sometimes tend to get sucked into trying to please someone else. Therefore you can lose yourself while doing so. To not fall into that trap, it’s important to set lifetime goals to be the best person you can be, it will get you further. People will notice your qualities that stand out, you have to cling to your moral values and what’s best.
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good character.

My second pillar is my characteristic of safety. I believe I have lived my life safely, but also just as freely and exciting as well. Safety is an important characteristic to me because I think not having this characteristic is dangerous. To live a healthy life, one must know how to stay safe. I believe I have
There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with, other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard-working attitude. You aren’t born with a hard-working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100% effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can possess.
As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders.
Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ?
Courage is a necessity to overcome fears and achieve a desired goal. Fear is something that exists in all of us. There is no hero or any particular courageous figure that is without fear. Being fearless is not required to be courageous, one simply has to look past or overcome their fears to possess this great quality. When overcoming fears and going against the norm, there are always risks involved. There are different types of risks that come about. Someone could risk life or limb, while others risk their reputation. Either risk is serious enough that a person must have courage to endure that particular risk. Courage can occur anytime, anywhere, and often in our everyday lives. Everyone will experience courage no matter how young,
From an early age I learned that our very best is often brought to action when we willingly take on challenges and persevere with grace through trying times. As a widowed, single mother, my mom strove for excellence in every area of her life in order to put food on the table for her children. She studied to be a nurse, quickly rose in to administration, became the first in our family to obtain a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and earned a seat as a director for an international healthcare organization. Her determination and positive spirit served as a great example and sparked a passionate drive in my life to help others while striving for greatness.
There are many personal characteristics that can affect a person as an individual and his professional success, namely openness, ability to learn and adapt etc. These personal characteristics can sometimes make a person successful and sometimes doesn’t. As I spend more and more time as a professional, I perceive that there are few characteristics that are essential for professional success: namely ambitious, creative and adaptable. These characteristics come out in many different ways. Have you set your goals? Have you decided the path you have to take to pursue your goal? What are the sacrifices you can do to achieve your ambition? How much can you think out of the box to resolve a particular issue or bring new idea to the table? How
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
Confidence, communication and commitment are just three of many traits that a leader possesses. Having those traits may help you become a leader but continuous hard work and dedication makes you one. To continue to be a leader you must also be intelligent, courageous, and determined. Becoming a leader is difficult but continuing to be one is even more difficult.
An individual’s effectiveness in the workplace often depends on his/her personality, attitudes and values, along with his/her motivation to succeed. Understanding these characteristics of employees can be very crucial for organizations to operate successfully. At the same time, it is essential that employees understand the values associated with the organization in order to avoid any conflicting feelings toward the work they are employed to do.
