Course I am taking this quarter
I have taken MGT510Z-AS8-21-Managerial Communication Skills and CSC550X-A1-06-Data Mining and Distributed Computing courses in this quarter. MGT510Z-AS8-21-Managerial Communication Skills is a hybrid class instructed by Dr. Mohammad Abdulhaija and CSC550X-A1-06-Data Mining and Distributed Computing is a fully online class instructed by Dr, Emmanuel Amadi.
Applying Learning from Course #1 to my work place
I have learned a lot of things in this class specially making effective power point presentations and ways of giving attractive seminar. It helps me a lot when I gave seminar at the client to explain why Oracle is better than SQL and BD2 and I always remember the sentence which Dr. Abdulhaija said “Your audience does not need to and often does not want to listen to you but it’s your responsibility to convince them to listen to and remember your key points”.
I got very good comments and they all appreciate my presentation, the way I started and they way I conclude and the most important I did not took more than the schedule time and I was well prepared with my message and my key words as George Torok says in his book “Know your message and identified your key words that support that”.[1]
In this presentation I only create 8 PPTs with lot of pictures and I tried not to put more text in it, with 8 PPTs I speak for 45 minutes. I think that’s the best thing I
Interested work as a communication specialist for organizations and learning from this course will help me be prepared to face the challenges at workplace.
I will look to the feedback and criticisms given in order to improve on my presentation and communication skills for the future.
Starting off with some of my strengths, I believe that I achieved my message in communicating with the audience. I stated my three main points and described each of the experiments step by step. I organized my speech in chronological
My goal is to learn as much as I can so that I am equipped to convert my role as the middle manager at my current organization to one that sits at the senior leadership table. I am looking forward to this course developing my critical thinking skills in preparation for my inevitable
While a good presentation can deliver the insights of a topic and allows the audience to clearly understand a textual topic in a visual and more memorable way, a bad presentation can also make the audience more confused for even the things that they already know. Unlike how most people think, presentation is not all about the quality of the contents of the presentation but it greatly depends on aspects such as presenter’s confidence, quality of slides, and speaker’s methods and preparation for that particular topic. The most complicated and boring topics can seem so interesting by the audience,
The tools and assessments in from this course will help me in my future courses and jobs
Presentations should reflect a careful analysis of audience interest and be relevant. Presentations should also reflect the theory we
Comment on the following points: presentation introduction, presentation closure, speaker knowledge about information, main points clear to audience, etc.
The feedback I received was varied. The planning, structure and content of the presentation was good and well structured. Based on this feedback I was happy with the flow and how the presentation came across from this perspective. As a result I don’t think I would change how I went about creating the presentation. I do a lot of planning and project work as part of my day to day job so structuring it I found quite
For one, I could have had better information, and made sure I didn’t repeat the information so much. The information that I had researched proved to be very specific and not necessarily relevant to the topic that I was talking about at the time. This resulted in an overall choppy sounding presentation. The other thing I could have done better was to have someone go over my presentation and proof read/ correct my text. I had some grammatical and spelling errors, mistakes that should have not happened. If I had fixed these two things then my presentation would have been a lot nicer. This, again, would have resulted in a better
I am applying various lessons I have learnt from this course to project about to information, such as with the use of power point presentation or various excel reports.

As it is my second semester this course is best till now, the main reason I have selected this course is my tutor Dr. Anne kohnke, the way she teaches the class is impressive and definitely very kind heartened woman. Also in the first semester she taught us Enterprise Information Technology the framework made to work efficiently by giving good knowledge in that course.
Our presentation slides focuses more on pictures, charts and key-points for visual aid. By keeping the slides simple, audiences can focus more on the speaker. The videos uploaded by the Centre for English Language Communication department tell us our weaknesses which we do not realize by ourselves. Reflecting on my first and second presentation through videos and feedbacks from Ms. Christine has helped me
