There are many times where we are observers of other people’s behavior whether negative or positive and do not give it deep thought unless the behavior impacts us directly. We may go about life with the belief that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. Then when a bad thing happens to a good person (or vise versa), we then take the time to analyse how can this be possible and whether it is fair or not. Now imagine that you are raising a well mannered child who respects others, but comes home year after year letting you know that she is being bullied at school. You then wonder what can your child be doing wrong to deserve this, what can she do differently, and you can’t seem to understand why your child who is a good person is having bad things happen to her. Bullying in fact causes serious health issues as well as social and it has been estimated that around 30% of children are victims of bullying in the adolescent years (Garland, Policastro, Richards, & Miller, 2017). In the past schools and parents did not look at bullying as an issue and many times the bullying went unnoticed because it was considered the norm and a part of growing up. In turn this can be a reason why people blame the victim for what happens to them and not the victimizer. When these thoughts cross our minds, we are participating in a Belief Just World Phenomenon. More than obesity and health care is wrong with America. Not only does the health care system warp people's mind, but it creates an issue with the way children are taught and how they learn. A large stance has already changed many people’s lives—bullying. Children bully for many reasons including sexual orientation, weight, religious/philosophical beliefs, and some reasons unknown to all. Children bullied for their weight often times feel insecure and worthless about their bodies—scaring them in the process of always wanting to be in the same physical state and leading more obese children to lead obese adult lives.

Bullying is defined as the prolonged malicious act of harming peers by abusing their own--or an existing imbalance of--power, and has become one of the most common sources of trauma among adolescents. One report shows that one of three children were victims of bullying during some point in their life, and that 10-14% of all adolescents were victims of chronic bullying for at least six months prior to participating in the survey. Children who were victims of bullying are also found to be at a higher risk of diagnoses for anxiety disorders and depression during young and middle adulthood. These victims are reported to be more likely to have lower levels of general/physical health, and lower educational acquirements than young and middle-aged adults who were not bullied (Wolke & Lereya, 2015). Because bullying is such a prominent problem, citizens, policymakers, and social scientists alike, should feel or have some social and moral obligation to address, and hopefully avert bullying. The state of bullying, and how it is enacted, is constantly changing and adapting to social frameworks. Because bullies can adapt to social changes and regulations, we, as a society, should be equally adaptive in how we perceive, address, prevent, and punish bullying.
I interviewed Mrs. “Bright” for this assignment. She is currently assigned to one of our three high schools within the Harrison County School District (HCSD). This incident happened a few years ago when she was an assistant principal at a different high school in the HCSD. A white 10th grader had a daily 30 minute wait after school for his ride home. By this time, the other students, faculty, and staff had mostly all left the campus. A series of bullying by four black upper-classman soon started on an almost daily basis. The upper-classman were staying after school for football practice that was being held across the school campus. On one occasion the boys chased “Ryan” across campus telling him “run white boy” and “run cracker”. Ryan
The Bully Survival Support Group will be a short-term group which will consist of 8 sessions, totaling 8 weeks. The group will be short-term because it is a closed therapeutic support group that members are not admitted into the group after selection have been made. This decision was made to enable the group leader and co-facilitator instigate another session of the support group, to enable other students have an equal chance to be recruited, and supported through participation.
According to the article “Tales of Bullying,” students can become a bad bully because you might have your own group of friends you want to impress or try to show off for, or you might have something going on at home. According to paragraph 3 in “Meet the New Sheriff” kids may get bullied because of their hair and/or what they wear. All around the wonderful world good kids are ending their own good lives over bullying. A bad bully is far worse than a lazy bystander because mean bully’s cause suicides, bullies cause/have low self-esteem, not to mention they suffer a large amount of punishment.
All families have problems but divorcing is one that most of the families have. In fact Freaks and geeks; Schweiber and Weir is a good example of families of America. The Weirs don’t have problems like Schweiber do. Neil Schweiber is the only child and Sam Weir is not, he has an older sister. But what I am trying to get at is that Sam has someone to talk to but Neil, on the other hand, does not. He is lucky he has friends that told him about his dad.
There has been a lot of research done on bullying since the 1980s when Olweus, who was a Norwegian researcher, began to study bullying. In Scandinavia, bullying had become a social interest because people noticed that it was a problem in their society. The school officials in Scandinavia did not take action against bullying until three boys from Norway had committed suicide because they were bullied by their peers. This event caused national interest in bully and victim problems. Since, people suspected that there was a bullying issue they had conducted a study in which data was obtained from 150,000 students .The results indicated that 15% of students in Norwegian schools were involved in bullying (Olweus, 2014).
Bullying has become a larger issue in schools across the nation. Schools have noticed the pattern that bulling takes place on their campus. School districts are trying to decrease the amount of bulling by creating anti-bulling programs, teaching students respectful manners, and create fun methods to keep positive attitude.
A similar response was found in a study by Stel, M., et al. (2012) when mimicking the victim, the chances of blaming an innocent victim are reduced. However, Garland, T.S., et al. (2017), found students who engaged in bullying might be able to rationalize their beliefs by viewing their victim as weak and deserving; hence, the just world hypothesis. Some individuals even said bullying was a normal part of growing up, making unjust behavior (bullying) appear as a just world phenomenon (Garland, T.S., et al.,
Many kids all around the world are abused by their parents, peers or even by complete strangers. One of these types of abuse is bullying. At a first glance, we might think that it is an older kid beating/teasing a younger classmate however; bullying consists of much more than this. The basic definition of bullying is when your behavior hurts or harms another person physically or emotionally. There are many different types of bullying, which may lead to a victim becoming violent later on. There is teasing and name calling, there is also picking and shoving the kid. However, the most extreme one would be beating up the child, hurting them physically and mainly, emotionally.
Bullying is a social and psychological issue among animals and humans that emerges in an emotional, verbal, or physical form. Although the issue of bullying among humans has existed for quite some time, recent research of the issue has grown significantly and indicates that bullying takes many forms and effects individuals or groups of different ages, genders, races, geographic locations, and socio-economic status. There are many causes of bullying and the goal of the analysis is to identify some of the causes, analyze recent measures of prevention, review interventions in place to assist in increased understanding of the issue, and examine how bullying has the potential to effect lifespan development at various stages.
Bullying, in its many forms, is becoming an extremely hazardous problem that many individuals endure. Bullies torment others because they themselves have insecurities, have been bullied themselves, or have a mental illness that brings out the worst in them. Nevertheless, bullying can physically and emotionally destroy the victim, whether it is by physical abuse, cyber bullying, or verbal abuse.
Thesis: Bullying in its many forms affects all people no matter age, gender, and class, but the effects can be very dangerous and very hurtful.
