My reason on becoming a Social Worker is to help others and to give them the most accurate and updated information out there to help them overcome the obstacles in their way and be someone to make a difference in their lives of many. The most significant moment of my life was getting my GED in 2009. I dropped out of high school when I was 16 years old. Never thought of my education or where I would be in ten years. Some people would wish they could go back and change things but, I honestly wouldn’t. Reason being is because I do not believe I would be the person I am today if it weren’t for all my struggles I have endured and over last fifteen years of my life, I have overcome a great deal. I am strong, independent, self-assured more than I have in all my life on what I want to do career wise and how I can & could make a difference for many people, as well as the community I am involved with!
I have hit bottom and I am just waiting to feel what it will be like to be at the top. Getting back in to school and pursuing the career of social work will get me there, due to the fact I have a great heart, I love to help others and I am ready and willing to give my all to a great cause that many are not fully educated about. Being truly happy with the work I have presented and accomplished along the way is, gratifying and makes me want to strive and give guidance to those who need help. Helping others, giving and showing how on can live well (no more struggling or at least
I chose social working as my career because many other people go through tough situations and have a difficult time talking to relatives or friends to help them through a tough situation. I thought of becoming a social worker so I can have the ability to change the lives of others. Social work is one of those careers you can truly make a difference in people’s lives. I want to become a social worker because life isn’t about just helping yourself it’s about helping others as well, which is what social workers do for a living. Child and family social workers protect children and families in need of assistance. Many families and children don’t feel comfortable talking to just anyone about obstacles they have faced in their lives which is why
My childhood along with my life experiences played a major role in my choice to pursue social work as my career. I grew up with a single mother that was drug dependent. I moved back in forth between my mother’s and my grandparent’s household. I didn’t have a
I have chosen to pursue a social work education and career because I have a strong desire to help, educate, and support those in need. A second reason I chose a career in social work is because my life was positively changed by a social worker. Finally, I am drawn to the social work profession by a fierce desire to provide service to veterans. As a veteran myself, I can better empathize with the struggles they face. Also, I have first-hand experience with the services currently available, what is lacking, and who to contact to resolve issues and answer questions.
Growing up, a family friend of ours signed up to become a foster family. I vividly remember it; they would get kids for a few weeks, then they would be gone. They may have only been there for a few weeks, but that's not the only time they spent in the foster care system. The average amount of time that a child is in the foster care system is about 3 years (ABC News). The increasing rate of children in foster care has led me to want to become a child and family social worker to help and protect children from harmful situations.
I am passionate about many things but I want to find a profession that will help me accomplish encouraging people to take action in fixing their livelihood instead of being a passive bystander. I want to motivate struggling individuals with the services that would be provided so they can get back on their feet and enjoy all the amazing things life has to offer. I don’t believe “I” decided to be a social worker. I was born to be a social worker. I believe it was a part of me from day one. Social work has influenced me in wanting to make a difference in the world. I knew I would be in the field of helping but thought I would be a teacher. I actually switched majors halfway through college because I did not feel fulfilled. I hope once I have finished and get my degree, I can use the gift that I have been given to change someone’s life for the better. Being a Social Worker is about empowering someone and inspire them to help themselves and I know that I have what it takes. There isn’t one particular thing or someone that has influenced my decision in becoming a professional helper. There were several incidents in my life as well as people that I have come across throughout my life. Events like Hurricanes Katrina impacted my immediate surroundings and drew me even closer to the real work of social workers. I can’t pinpoint an exact person or event that sealed the deal for me because I have come in contact with
Growing up, I always had a knack for wanting to help others. Upon entering college I knew I wanted to work in a helping profession. I matriculated my college career as an Early Childhood Education major. My goal was to teach in low income middle schools and improve test scores of students. However, upon entering the program I knew that teaching was something that I was not passionate about. My grades began to slip and I was placed on academic probation. I was determined to find something that was for me in college. I knew that I wanted to continue to help others and after researching the many jobs a social worker can have is when I changed my major to Social Work. Choosing to major in Social Work was one of the best
I want to a be a social worker because i want to help people, and it also interests me since the 8th grade. My responsibility of being a social worker is to help solve and cope with people and their problems in their everyday life. As well help work with families to strengthen their parenting skills for parents who drink, do drugs, and who are abusive. I can also help prevent child abuse to the kids in the home and find a home for them who are unable to live with their biological parents.
I wanted to enter the social work field to help others and to make an impact on people’s lives who may be struggling because of who I am. I am a person that has cerebral palsy and because of this I feel like I have greater life experience because of everything that I have endured growing up. If I can share my story of all the obstacles that I have overcome given the difficult disability that I have I hope it will inspire others to know that nothing is truly impossible. This life experience has allowed me to be able to help people better because it has made me more open minded, sensitive, strong, relatable, and understanding. These life experiences are what made me want to decide to go into the social work field because I want to help people just like I was helped and even more so.
Whenever people ask me why I want to be a social worker, all I can think about was when I was a little girl, and I was going through my Legally Blonde phase or my Corner phase. Which neither one of these career choices appear to have anything in common. Yet, the only thing that ran through my mind every single time I considered a new career choice, was I just want to help people. That's all I've ever wanted to do since I was a child and most importantly I want to help those in my community. Since Carson and Nevada as a whole is my home and the only home I have ever known. As a child, I lived a fairly sheltered life for the most part; except for when I lost my grandparents. In which was within a year and a half for all three of them. But, it
There are many reasons why I have chosen Social Work as my profession. Throughout my life I have experienced situations that have allowed me to realize the care people are in need of. Because of these experiences I gained interest in learning more about issues which impact not only individuals, but cities, states, countries and the world. I want to be part of the social work profession because I have seen the potential social workers have and the changes they can make. I want the opportunity to continue my educational goals so that I can attain more knowledge and develop further competence about issues occurring in our world. I want to be a social worker so I can provide help to those in need and continue to make strides towards social change. I would like the opportunity to
Being a social worker was and still is something I wanted to do well before I really understood what being a social worker meant. I knew after years of working with children and families, as well as homeless men, women, and veterans that; becoming a social worker was what I wanted to be, was going to become, and who or what was meant to be. It wasn’t until after getting into the University of South Carolina as a Biology major that I realized that that wasn’t what I was meant to be doing. But, before that, I looked into becoming a neonatal physician and again, the more I thought about it the less confident I was going that route. What I did know was that, while I wasn’t sure if wanted to work in that specific profession, I did want to work with
Starting from being a certified nursing assistant, to becoming a unit secretary for a hospital that specialize in wound care, I have always known that I wanted to help individuals in need. However, I noticed that I was not happy with helping individuals in medical need. It wasn’t until I decided to continue my education that I introduced to the world of social work. Going up with a single mother that suffered from drug abuse, my family depended on social services for a lot of assistance, from everything such as food stamps to family counseling. This life experience helped guide my thoughts on pursuing social work as a career. I know that I want to help individuals that are down on their luck, but I want to take it one step farther, by providing individual counseling to adults that may need more one on one time, than what is normally given from a social service agency. Counseling will also give me a chance to do what I love most and that is to talk and get to know the individuals that I am helping make like changing decisions. Working as a clinical social work has my interest because it does not put limits on what I can do or who I can help, and it will set me up for my future goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. Being my own boss and changing my community is my dream job, opportunity and goal. I am currently on my way with changing my community and living my dream, because I am currently working for a non-profit
A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food, homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers.
The reason why I am motivated to pursue a professional career in social and human services work is because I believe it is the greatest achievement that I would ever accomplish. It would make me proud to know that I am providing support; protection and safety to people that are in need. “A powerful motive for pursuing social or human service work is personal experience” (Chenoweth & McAuliffe, 2015, p. 10). This relates to my own personal experience for example when I was growing up I experienced many abuse such as bullying and domestic violence. My own mother was abused by my father and she did not have
As the saying goes, “Our children are our future” and who you are as a child can determine who you can be later on in life. It is important for a child to be in a safe, comfortable and loving environment during its development so that the child can have the full advantage to become the best he can be in his future. My future career as a social worker will ensure just that. I chose this profession because of my own history. Growing up, I’ve had my share of social workers in my house. I experienced them as people who helped my family during a hard time. This is a career where I can fight for people’s rights. I will also be able to protect
