What is psychology? After the fact that I have taken a psychology course previously, my best interpretation of the definition is that it is the study of the mind, as well as speculation on how different factors result in an affect on people, their mind, their actions, and their health. My subject of the interview, Reba Akins, believes it is “the study of how the brain develops overtime” (Akins, 2017). Although she is not wrong, neither she nor I is entirely correct. It is hard to define such an elaborate field of study in just a few words. Feldman states that it is “ the scientific study of behavior and mental processes” (Feldman, 2015, pg.5). She spoke of the main aspect which was the brain, but she only talked of the brain and its development. The book describes it simply as how a person reacts to certain situations and the cognitive responses and tendencies. Aside from leaving out the person themselves, the scientific aspects and how a person behaves, she closely related to the book’s spin of the word. With the subject, my grandmother, not particularly having any prior formal education she ultimately defined the word much more in relation to the book than I did.

Overall both me and my grandmother were in a sense correct, but with psychology I feel there is no fixed definition, because psychology itself is so broad. I can think of at least six or seven subfields in psychology. Although all of this is entirely my opinion, I do feel that the book does give one of the more accurately simple descriptions of psychology. I began to try and hit every minuscule detail in the field and surpassed other details, while the book remained with such an extensive view it essentially touches everything that occurs in psychology.
In conclusion, all of the definitions given were in relation in some form or fashion. They all mention the cognitive characteristic of psychology. They also include how the subjects change or develop
