There is a huge industry dedicated to animation and creating entertainment like movies, cartoons, video games, and educational software to deliver a message, tell a story, and/or educate the masses. Animation is the process of creating a continuous motion and shape change illusion by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Anyone who as ever turned on a television, gone to the movies, or seen a commercial has been exposed to an animation style at some point. Some love animation and some are not so interested in it, but regardless it is a booming business that started out simply and is evolving at a rapid pace.
Animation today is very advanced and it is amazing what technologies go into putting things into action, especially when it comes to current animated features and video games. Creators have been able to make fictional characters appear as if they are real and they have extraordinary detail, take three-dimensional animation for example. With some 3-D animations it is hard to differentiate if it is indeed an animation or a film with real actors. Scenery can be just as detailed as its real counterparts and characters, although still cartoon-like, have very realistic detail from facial muscle movement to pigment in their skin and eyes. There are some two dimensional works that are exceptional as well. Many are created by drawing out each individual scene and combine in sequence. One can see that 2-D
As any cliché artist would say, “I started drawing a lot when I was younger;” but not me –I can’t remember when I started to enjoy the arts. I have always been driven to create and express myself. I painted scenery to calm my nerves, draw intricate objects to focus on details, and draw dynamic poses to allow development of my eye. The mountain of used sketchbooks fills its’ own bookcase, dating back to early elementary years when I would create little stories much like a comic book. Despite my deep love for the arts, I always loved animation much more. Animation is the perfect blend of drawing and creating visual aid, while elaborately designing a storyline and plot to engage the audience –animation lets the average audience member to feel
In many people’s opinions, animation means funny and humor and designed for children. The content of the animation is nothing more than fairy tales, legends, fables, etc. Animation even becomes a symbol of Disney cartoon. However, if we re-examine the animation from another point of view, we will find that it has grown out of a single commercial mode constraints. Some of the animations are complicated, obscure and abstract. Variety kinds of visual images in it stimulate the audience's optic nerves. This is the salient features of experimental animation. Experimental animation belongs to the field which between film and pure art. Innovation is the soul of it. In the production process, the
Animation has a variety of differences between Japanese culture and the culture of the United States. While animation is usually made for the sole purpose of entertainment for children in the United States, Japanese animation, also known as anime as it is referred to both in Japan and in the West, is a form of media that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Unlike the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob Square pants, both very popular American animations shows in their times, anime focuses more on drama and other non childlike qualities. The differing cultures of the United States and Japan can be considered the main factor to the huge differences in their own respected animation styles.
Multimedia Artists and Animators (MMA) have a big impact on this because they create the illusion of a realistic image in every digital and sometimes non-digital media project they publish.
In recent years, animated programs have dominated the world of film and TV in both America and Japan. These programs, known as cartoons and anime, are some of the most popular forms of entertainment today. Anime and cartoon shows, such as One Piece and Family Guy, have been running for decades and are very well known among society. Animated films such as Disney’s The Lion King and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away have also thrived and even surpassed animated television shows in some instances. Both American and Japanese animation industries have flourished, and their cartoons and animes continue to grow in popularity. However, similarities and differences between the two soon arise when compared closely; these observations are often what lead fans to prefer one style over the other as well as shape pop culture.
Plot subjects in animation and media often are reflective of how we as a society are constantly changing. The content in which animation companies produces is often relevant to current and most important events that are occurring. This has shown to be true throughout the many decades of animation. Between the years of 1942 and 1945, the years of World War II, Walt Disney Studios were found to have been producing mass propaganda for the U.S. Government for the purpose of increased morale and support throughout the war. Disney Studios at the time was an extremely popular animation studio which made them incredibly relevant to the public community.
“Animation offers a medium of storytelling and visual entertainment which can bring pleasure and information to people of all ages everywhere in the world,” said Walt Disney of his beloved cartoons. While it is true that cartoons are an interesting medium of visual entertainment, their unique ability to convey information to people, adults and children alike, make the animated film medium one of the most far reaching means of propaganda. Today it is impossible to imagine American animated cinema without Disney and its cartoons. The American captivation with Disney has not changed much in the seventy years since World War II. In the early 1940s, two thirds of Americans went to the movies every week and these moviegoers were enamored
In the 2010s, story of the animation have become more realistic and add more science and some more technologies. Nowadays, they change from 2D animation to 3D animation and then they are more realistic than before that makes audience love to watch more and more. Such as Big hero 6, Zootopia, Frozen, Inside Out, Tangled, etc. Moreover, they use a computer graphic a.k.a. CG to generate the animation in this time.
Animation; an art form with the ability to tell a story and convey a multitude of emotions along with information. Animation can be found almost everywhere in media from commercials, to movies, to games. Every single animation need an animator or a team of animators to create it. There are many kinds of animation: 2D, 3D, motion graphics, visual effects. Each of these categories may have multiple people working on them using their own special skills to produce the final product. The reason for researching this occupation is because of my fascination and respect for the craft. I admire the art of storytelling immensely and the creativity that goes into it.
Stop motion animation is when you take a picture of something, move it ever so slightly (depending on how smooth you want the sequence to be) then take another picture and so on and so on. The sequence of pictures will create an illusion of a moving image. When creating a stop motion animation it can either be done traditionally or a computer can be used to generate the background sets.
For applicants looking to pursue a career in animation, one should consider the specific skill sets and education that is required. According to the United States Department of Labor, some of the education that one needs is, “a bachelor’s degree in fine art, computer graphics, animation, or a related field”(How to become one). Furthermore, as stated by the United Kingdom’s National Careers Service, some of the skills needed in this career are, “communication and presentation skills, drawing and modelling skills, and IT skills”(UK). According to Dr. Alan Cholodenko, “drawing is acknowledged as the ‘basis’ of not only all art but of animation”(Cholodenko). Some of the animation careers are heavily based on drawing, however, they also use and need technology skills as well. As reported by the BLS, “Many multimedia artists and animators use computer programs or write programming code
In a world where technology is rapidly developing and evolving, it is sometimes hard to keep up with the changes that are made. When looking back on changes that are made it is particularly interesting to look at the development of animation over history. Today when one thinks about animation it is impossible not to think of Disney and their major motion pictures. The Shreck films, Finding Nemo, and Happy Feet, to name just some of the dozens of animated films Disney has produced, raked in million upon millions of dollars at the box office, and have been hit films with people in all age groups.
This modernization era, animations become a common thing to the modern people. There is a lot of animation in this era from television series, films, and even in music video and animation also comes with different types from 2D animation to 3D animation, stop-motion animation and also Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). Animations have been put to use in various purposes like commercial, teaching or learning. Almost everyone knows about this type of animation but there is difference between different country such as Eastern European animation and Western European animation. Even though both of them In the Europe region they are differences in their animation like style and technique.
The first 2D animation was created in by Emile Cohl in 1908 called “Fantasmagorie”. The animated film was 70 seconds made with 700 images and 24 frames per second for making the ending according to Kieran Kane’s presentation “The History of Animation”. In 1928, Walt Disney used 2D animation to create the first Mickey Mouse cartoon “ Steamboat Willie”. The cartoon was also the first animated film to have a soundtrack in the background according to “ The History of Animation”. After this event, many companies like Walt Disney, Warner Bros, and Hanna-Barbera started creating cartoons and commercials with paper 2D animation in 1930s to 1970s; these were known as the “year of animation”. Now, most animations have the problem of consuming time on creating, making it appropriate to the viewer's eye, creating realistic expressions on the
It makes one think about the outcomes and the foreshadowing of the story and it raises the level of imagination by producing nearly impossible feats of courage and technology. A lot of animation has made its way to the U.S. Some shows include Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Voltron, and Robotech. These shows were ones that hold watchers' attention for about 30 minutes each day.
