This project was unique as we were working with a real-world oversees client, my first experience doing so in a professional setting. While this project provided plenty of great experiences, the issues I faced were related to working with an external client that operates within an industry I do not know. This reflection will use the 4Rs model to identify common issues I faced. These issues are categorised under the three themes, computer-mediated communication, time-management and information overload. As I desire to work professionally as an international business consultant, thoroughly understanding these issues will identify underlining areas where I must improve before becoming a professional.
Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC):
A major factor that differentiated our project in this unit was that the industry partner and the other external ZigWay project groups were only contactable through computer-mediated communication (CMC) methods, either through email or online conferencing. While the industry partner provided her email address and allowed us to contact her anytime, we made no attempt to contact the external ZigWay groups. The main way all parties involved discussed together was through the audio only Q&A sessions. There were initial problems during these sessions, as audio issues made it difficult for all group members to be heard during these discussions. When I think about my previous experiences working collaboratively, both as a student and a professional,
The management of a consulting project calls on a variety of skills. This is an actuality that has been stressed throughout the course lectures, seminars and cases as well as throughout the course literature. The fact that consultants must integrate their skills when conducting a consulting project is as clear-cut as it is evident.
consulting on one end and systems implementation on the other. The Consulting Group viewed its
On our next meeting, I realised that some of the group members were unable to turn up for one reason or the other. Even though some of us were able to gather information, there were still much expected from us as a group. There were misunderstanding among us in that we put blame on each other. This made me realise that partnership working cannot be successful without collaboration, effective communication, good interaction and cooperation among the various individuals
Throughout the readings communication was identified as a vital component for establishing and maintaining relationships. Porter-O Grady sanctioned for leaders to establish firm rules of engagement to help support a positive group dynamic (2013). While Kelly & Tazbir explained that friction and conflict were a normal part of group development and were representative of the Storming stage of group process (2014). Moreover, they explained that with assistance from the team leader the team can overcome these obstacles, strengthen inter-professional relationships, and enter into the Norming stage (Kelly & Tazbir, 2014). Here the team is able to participate in the effective exchange of communication and begin making progress toward goals. This represents progression into the Performing stage of group process (Kelly & Tazbir, 2014). When the team has met its intended target they are ready to anylze the outcomes of their work and enter the final stage of group process—Adjourning (Kelly & Tazbir,

Throughout this semester reading about different ways of interpersonal communication I came to the realization that there were many things I could work on to better myself as a person. Things I never thought about in depth until taking this class. Areas I have improved on throughout this semester are using I language more than the use of you language, what empathy was and how I choose to become better and lastly how I deal with conflict.
Since the start of this class, I have been reminded again and again that the concepts we are learning can be applied to everyday life. For instance, when we talked about non-verbal communication, I realized that it is impossible to not communicate. There are many activities, other than the use of language, that allow us to draw meaning from something we observe. When my mother widens her eyes at me without stating a word, I understand she is telling me to think twice about the action I’m about to take. It has been great to be able to assign concepts and vocabulary to interpersonal relationships and communication activity that I have been experiencing. Now let me introduce you to my friend Izzy and her boyfriend Ken as I analyze the
Why was the message that was sent to me in all caps? Is that a way of showing anger? Many get emails or texts or any forms of messages through electronic communication and have no idea what the message is saying or how their tone of voice is. Many have kids who just started using communication or haven’t started at all, and are wondering what to teach their kids about communication. The best solution to this problem is to teach using face to face communication. In the old days, talking face to face was the way to go. They would walk or drive somewhere and meet up just to have a conversation. Now a day we rely on electronics. Even though sending emails is easy, talking face to face helps understand people in a more formal manner. Are these
Not communicating is the surest way to undermine trust. If communication is failing, address the issues quickly and either find alternatives or emphasize the need to communicate. The need to answer e-mails promptly and attend meetings need to be established in consortium agreements and actions taken on failure to comply need to be identified. Review the communication strategies after key stages; identify the best
This paper discusses the creation of "Just in Time Consulting" and explains the types of services the firm offers to clients. It also explains the roles/responsibilities of each member of the team, and analyzes which University of Phoenix courses helped in the creation of the consulting firm.
When doing so the other group members were active listener, by using their whole body verbally and nonverbal. Like facing the speaker and giving eye contact and try to avoided interruption. The group also acknowledges the thoughts of the speaker by giving constructive feed back. Due to the effectiveness of the group communication, we were able to build trust, respect and understand the issues and make decision for effective change. We illustrate this by coming together as a group one again to accomplish the goal we initially wanted to accomplish. Since the first organization that we had chosen was incorrect, so we had to make the necessary changes to accomplish our goals. The other effective feature is the purpose of the group. Kozier et al (2010) stated that the effective group purpose is when “goal, task, and outcomes are clarified. Understanding and modified so that members of the group can commit themselves to purposes through cooperation” (p.401). For instance, each individual was assign a task and knew what was to be accomplished. As group we all decided to meet at suitable day and time which was beneficial to all team members, because we could commit to the group and focus on what needed to be achieved.

How does electronic communication affect our social behavior as a whole and our psychological development? Communication is an important part of life. We all do it in a daily basis whether it’s face-to-face or through electronics. Communicating through the internet helps us as it decreases a bit in the time that it would usually take for us to keep in touch with our loved ones. However, it also takes away from the face-to-face interaction we would have with them. One of the most popular ways that people communicate electronically is through text messaging. Just like all the other diverse ways that allows us to communicate electronically such as email, instant messaging, social media etc., text messaging affects us both positively and negatively. Actually we are affected both positively and negatively with just the ability to communicate and interact with others electronically. Electronic Communication tends to affects us socially and psychologically; Socially: in a way that it allows us to keep in touch with our loved ones, especially those who live far from us, however it distracts some of us from our priorities; Psychologically: one can be affected in a
Digital communication through today’s technology is empowering our society and strengthening human relationships through connecting us in ways that are impossible through organic human to human interaction. This exceptionally innovative technology was once only imaginable in science fiction literature, and is now a reality for most of humanity. We use this form of communication on a daily basis throughout the planet. We rarely stop to think about how wondrous and seemingly magical this advanced technology is, and we seldom ponder on how this new form of communication impacts us as a culture. Advanced digital communication not only enables and emboldens us, but could be potentially harming and hindering us as a culture as well as socially
Importance of communication by face-to-face is declining in today’s digital era as one can live about a whole day without interacting with people. Now days, people depend highly on the facilities of text messages, emails, and social media. As long as it is impossible to reject the role of these facilities and the method that they have changed communication, so it is necessary to balance these online communications with face-to-face communication.
