Prior going to this class I did not know what I was going to expect. In a large class room more than 70 students, how will the instructor going to handle us to be in a respectful matter in other people’s thoughts and opinions. I knew that this class was going to mainly focus on government. I did not know what else I was going to learn. This was the first time I was going to take this course and I got a lot out of it. In this class, I have grown in my political knowledge and where I stand for my opinions and views. I learned so much taking this class and I recommend all students take this course. Anyone who lives in America should take a political science class to know about the government and political knowledge and to be able to have a public opinion.
Stepping into this class the first day the instructor had the students to score out of one through ten and how much we trusted the government. I rated my score a 6 and after discussing and finding out what the government controls. I have changed my score to a higher score in trusting in the government. Learning so much about how much the government is involved with people’s lives and has a huge power authority in the United States. I have more trust in the government and seeing and learning what little things they have control over to the big things they have control over is now knowing I built my trust in the government a lot more than before coming to class. I change my mind because of the knowledge I was missing and put me
Through the duration of this course some of my opinions on civic issues have changed and some have stayed the same. An opinion of mine that has changed is the number of flaws in our education system. This is an important civic issue because the education of young people is deciding the future of this world. This is politically significant because this generation will grow up to be a part of politics whether running for a role in the federal, provincial, or municipal parliamentary or simply voting in an election.
Does the Congress of the United States have the power, under Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution; have the authority to constitute a national bank even though that power is not explicitly enumerated within the Constitution? Did Article VI’s National Supremacy Clause forbid State taxes on federal doings or was the Maryland tax law statutory?
My views have not changed in taking this class; I do however feel I now have a much improved understanding of my stand on issues. There is always room for comprise and improvement. The current make of House and Senate is divided along party lines and then also with in party lines. Our President should work on his deliverances of his opinion on healthcare and stop the negative rhetoric.
Have you ever asked yourself why is important for college students to know about the government in the state they live in? I believe that it is important for students in college to understand the way their state works because that will give them more knowledge when it comes to voting for the right candidates. For me, knowing what laws and policies are being passed in the state I live in and how those laws can affect me is really important. I am really familiar with everything happening in Texas, but I believe this class is going to help me learn a lot about the government. Most of the college students think that what happens regarding policies and laws does not affect them, but even if they do not affect them right away they might in the
I went into Government class thinking I knew a lot about government. I quickly figured out there was a lot I had to learn. I am very glad I was required to take this class because without taking it, how would I know how everything works or know how I am affected by the government? My beliefs didn’t change nor did the political party I identify myself with but I have a much better understanding about what goes on in our Country. I learned much more than I thought I would learn, from the ways someone can become president, to how a bill becomes a law, to who were considered to be the best presidents.
The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives is calculated based on a state’s adult population,
e.g.: If person A has political power over B, then A is able to motivate, inspire, incite,
One thing that I do not feel like I learned that much about was how “ordinary people” can make a difference. We heard from researchers, journalists, doctors, and many other people who weren’t directly involved in government but I don’t feel also it was expressly addressed how we can participate in this process as students or young adults. Overall, I am very glad I took this class and think it has broadened my understanding of our government and has supplemented my education for the Bridging Disciplines Program. This course fit in well with my certificate in Social Inequality, Health and Policy and will help me in the
When we first started the course I had very little knowledge about the United States Government. Now, I feel like I have learned a lot and amd able to hold a conversation with someone about our government and actually understand what they are saying and some of the terminology. My growing knowledge of the United States government has and will continue to impact my personal sense of what it means to be an United States citizen. Since I now understand things better I feel like it is easier for me to be more involved with our government since I am no longer as confused as I was before. After taking the class I have seen the importance of participating in things such as voting and why the government decides to make and enforce certain decisions
In the 2013 State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama explained his perception of the country as it is currently working. The President states that he believes all is well in the country. All of the problems which have faced the country over the last few years, particularly the economy and the jobs situation, are improving. He also states that the workings of his administration as well as a non-partisan Congress are necessary if the country hopes to dig itself further out of the precarious position we were in as a nation. Obama's thesis seems to be that the country is doing very well right now but he uses statistics which do not seem to be accurate according to most sources. There are still many people out of work or not working enough to support their families. Obama advocates waging minimum wage but does not consider that this might lead to more people being made out of work. He discusses things like preschools for all children and immigration reform, but did not lay out ways in which these complicated issues can be handled by a government which has shown itself to be at odds and unwilling to cooperate with the opposing party.
For four long years I felt as if my high school was in a different world in of itself. I had spent that time interacting with an extensive amount of groups, or “cliques”, and getting to know what they do. Through my experiences, I had begun to realize what made this “subculture” high school of sorts run like it did. High school is an incredibly dynamic time for people, and I had changed as a person dramatically from my freshman to senior year. Like many, my freshman year was quite awkward, as remnants of my middle school self remained with me. As time went on, how, I talked to more people and grew out of my passive and shy personality. This did not just randomly happen without reason though. I began to learn and realize who I was and whom I enjoyed talking to in school, which explained why I spent so much time socializing with multiple kinds and groups of people. Everyone’s concept of “normal” was different, and high school was where I learned that lesson and will never forget.

Political science is a broad topic that covers the history, political and geographical aspect of the world. The course started with a revision on the basics of the constitution, types of power and the political scene that happens around us. My first year at the University, one of the compulsory subject that is required for arts taking students is Political Science 1101. After several years of taking social or political course, taking this course opened my knowledge towards politics and the political scene in Canada. It also taught me about how different ways of information taking could lead to one learning differently from others. For example this class gave us the opportunity to use our laptops as a source of note taking, this helped me learn in which whenever a new vocabulary comes up during the class discussions i could search it up. Through “The Road to Patriation” and Kim Campbell “Through the Looking Glass” i would further emphasize my ideas on what i have learnt throughout the course semester.
A major in political science prepares students for law school, government employment on the local, state and national levels, foreign service, teaching, business, journalism, or leadership in civic and political activities. For pre-law students, the department provides a series of law-related courses. There is a pre-law adviser and an active Pre-law Society that enable students to make close and direct contact with the work of attorneys and judges. Moreover political science is important since it makes citizens familiar with their legal system.
This has been in my thoughts as I’ve been drafting my way into my own dissertation ideas. My background in critical social studies means I am very familiar with building arguments, so some of this uncertainty is expected. AT the moment, I know enough to say I am on the right track with my research ideas and know that public administration, and public policy in particular, is the right field for me.. However, I also feel rather critical of the policy process literature. It has been claimed, “public administration exists to realize the governance of society” (Raadschelders, 1999, p. 288). Yet, what society believes policy to be, and for whom, changes over time and across place. I feel at this moment public policy in the United States will change dramatically and I worry that our field is ill equipped to deal with these changing views of policy. Consequently, most of my underlying thoughts and reflections have been on understanding how can we adapt to this changing atmosphere.
