This week during my supervision with my field instructor and I started our discussion, talking about making up my hours, due to an accident I was unable to attend one day I was scheduled . My field instructor stated, making up the hours would not be an issue, especially with the instructor working on Saturday's. We discussing in more detail about the agency's policy/operating procedure, as well as the following: billing, client eligibility restrictions, dictation of client's notes, etc. I will learn more in detail and hands on regarding the various intricacies of the agency as the week's progress. This week was a little bit different for me, I never interned nor volunteered at a private practice; I had an abundant amount of feelings such
I reflected back over the last eight weeks of this course. The nursing outcomes in course NR 511 has prepared me to meet the MSN program outcome #7, MSN Essential III and Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 4 Practice Inquiry Competencies.
“Death starts from the feet.” She was an 86 year old Guinean woman who was accompanied by her son to the family medicine clinic. Her son explained to us that his mother was very anxious and feared that she would be dying soon because of the pains that she was having in her lower extremities. In their culture, there is a saying that “death starts from the feet,” and because she was experiencing these pains she was convinced that her time was near. After obtaining a more detailed history and completing her physical examination, I discovered that the patient had bilateral crepitus in her knees as well as joint swellings, indicating an osteoarthritic presentation. What my patient feared to be symptoms of death were instead osteoarthritic pain! This patient encounter was an eye opening experience on just how impactful our backgrounds can be in medicine. By improving our cultural competences we improve the quality of healthcare. As a family physician I hope to make a difference in the lives and communities of patients from various backgrounds.
According to my results on both the table and the pie chart I created, most of my competency scores within the separate clusters are ranked highly. On the table, the highest scores are highlighted in yellow. To be exact, 9 out of 14 clusters and ranked as occurring consistently. The pie chart reflects the visual image of my results placed next to each other. Next, I will reflect on the big feelings and emotions that I experienced while reviewing my results.
I agreed with all of your suggestions. I had that sentence about emotional distress in their because it is something Rex has made me put in during previous studies, but if you do not feel it is needed I went ahead and deleted it. I also reworded the sentence concerning why we told the participants I would not be grading their work. Attached is a new version with my edits, please give it a look over and see if you agree with everything I
Additionally, this week I spent additional four and a half hours shadowing Marie, who is a nurse supervisor at Chicago Proton Center. Marie, as a nurse supervisor still interact with patients but also she is in charge of making sure the nurse department runs smoothly and everyone is following the nurse department's policy and procedure as well as organization's objectives. She also said that as a nurse supervisor beside overseeing patients, she is in charge of hiring, work scheduling and creating work assignments for all team members, persistently acting as patient advocate communicating patients, physicians, and team members, practicing excellent interpersonal communication skills and conflict management skills.
This class has taught me a lot in such a short time, and also made me realize a lot about myself when it comes to writing. I finally see the importance of writing and why writing will always be important. Writing will be used in just about every career, especially in nursing. Through this class, I realized my strengths and weaknesses making my future in writing papers easier since I now know what to and not to do. Better to realize the strengths and weaknesses in my freshman year then my senior year. I have found that having a voice is important in who the author is as a person and how it characterizes that person. I see that setting the tone of the paper basically sets the whole paper and what it will be about aside from the thesis stating
The study used a quasi-experimental pilot, which is an internal validity threat because the selection of the group was not randomized. The study considered the “peaks period of medication”. Here, we can question if the number of interruptions during the calmer periods could eventually exceed the peak days, due an external event such as nurse shortage during the calmer period. Here, another question is pertinent: Every day “medication period peaks” happened at 8 am to 10 am and at 4 pm to 6 pm? The study actually clarifies that during the research the ICU was similar, which is important to decrease errors related to occasional events such as more patients on ICU because a natural disaster. Another aspect is the observer in charge to count the interruption.
This upcoming semester at Wright State University will mark my sixth term as a student in the Raj Soin College of Business. Throughout the last three years I have been pursuing a dual degree in Human Resource Management and General Business Management, with an intended minor of Emergency Management. When I began my journey at Wright State I knew I wanted to learn how I could better help others, help others in areas in which I could not, yet I was unsure of how I was going to see that to fruition. Fortunately, through numerous workshops hosted by the School of Business, insightful opinions of seasoned professors, and the careful advice of advisors I found a niche, in Human Resources, that will allow me to guide others to reach their utmost potential.
My first essay is entitled A Significant Incident with a Child with Presumed Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD) Drawing Upon the Critical Reflection Techniques and Other Learning Theories and my second essay is titled In Failing to Answer a Pupil Question Relating to History Subject Knowledge, How Can I Ensure Sufficient Subject knowledge in Relation to the Teachers’ Standards, Pedagogy and Professionalism?
In this essay I will reflect on my experiences during the practice week. I will describe the one major event and add my personal thoughts and feelings. I will also describe my thoughts and concerns before this week even started. In the end of this essay I will share what I had learnt during this challenging week and how it enriched me from the professional poinstand.
A review of the literature to critically explore the value and purpose of reflective practice.
1. MAGNIFICATION: The overall magnification can be determined by multiplying the eyepiece’s power by the power of the objective lens that it currently being used. Parts of the microscope that are used for this include the eyepiece and the objective lens. Within the microscope, there are three different magnifications available; these are the 10x, 40x, and 100x. You would use each one according to what it is you are looking at, so the smaller the object, the more magnification you would need. For example, 10x magnification would be ideal for whole mounds, while the 40x would be better for wet mounds. To go beyond 1000x magnification, you would need to have a drop of oil on the glass in order to ensure a quality image. Different materials and tools, such as specific microscopes, like the Home 1000x LED Microscope, can be used to observe things that are incredibly small, and sensitive to the eye.
Over the course of this semester this class has allowed me to grow in many ways and helped me to reach my full potential. Throughout this class, I have had to write four separate essays which have all taught me something different. The first essay was about the theme of impotence in the summer reading novels, which has taught me about that struggles of daily life after World War I and World War II. Similarly, the second essay was about a memoir that taught me that even though life may have many uncontrollable struggles, you don’t have to let those struggles hold you back your entire life. The third essay I wrote was about the reflection of social issues in music. When writing this essay I had learned about the social issues in the 1960’s and 1990’s and how they compare to the today’s social concerns. Lastly, the essay about education had brought my attention towards the unseen issues taking place in higher education. Along with learning about the topics I had written about, I have also learned many skills and grammar rules that have improved my writing such as writing in an active voice, pronoun-antecedent agreement, and first references.
Reflective thinking is a part of the critical thinking process referring specifically to the processes of analyzing and making judgments about what has happened (hawaii.edu). The site cited that reflective thinking is an active, persistent, and careful consideration of a belief or supposed form of knowledge, of the grounds that support that knowledge, and the further conclusions to which that knowledge leads. Thus, learners are aware of and control their learning by actively participating in reflective thinking by assessing what they know, what they need to know and how they bridge that gap during learning situations.
Doing the modules in this course has given me an entirely new perspective on written university work. There are all sorts of strategies that can be employed to help with the improvement of the marks a student can get for each assignment and examination. Before studying about the different elements that must come together for a written university document to be deemed standard and good, there were so many points where I did not fully apply myself. Lack of knowledge is the main thing to blame for this dismal state that I was in. Previously my attitude towards essays and assignments was very relaxed and I approached my written work in quite a hap hazard manner. My work had very little structure, and my grades were not what they could be because of it. Topics like critical thinking and writing at university have opened my eyes to the writing possibilities that are available to me. In the past, I had no real concept of the benefits of planning my written work. Proof reading was never really at the top of my list of priorities. Allowing myself to take the time to review my work for errors seemed like a monumental waste of time. Learning how to find relevant literature, and making the proper citations were unknown concepts which led to a lot of time being wasted on unrelated material. I had a very limited perspective of learning skills and must admit to plagiarism every once in a while due to a lack of understanding.
