1. Students will work as a class to come up with ideas ideas about possible meanings and definitions of the main idea of an essay. All students will be encourage to participate in the class discussion.
2. All students will participate in an activity that will have them make use of the whiteboard. The students will read the five sentences quietly to themselves and come up with what they think is the topic sentence. No will writing will be done by the students but rather input will be verbal.
3. Students will read a handout quietly while I read out loud. The short reading is about the life of Benjamin Franklin. Students will be asked to highlight ideas, words, and sentences that they feel are important as they follow along in the reading. Then the students will divide into small groups of three or four and and share with each other what they thought was important. A group representative will then share the main ideas that the group decided upon.
4. Quietly, students will read the text to themselves and circle around the the sentence that they think is the most important sentence in the paragraph.
5. Students in the class will share their ideas about what the main idea of the essay is.
6. In a large group, students will share what they think is the main idea of the paragraph with the class. The class will come to an agreement with my help about what the main idea of the paragraph is and and I will write the topic sentence on the whiteboard.

The second goal is understand and use process of reading, writing and research, which i did by doing the opposition essay and by giving feedback on a classmate 's essay.The opposition essay was like a research paper, it was a process of researching and putting the information together and creating an essay that answers the prompt. This essay was like teaching the process of research and how to support evidence. It was like intro or preview of how a research paper is done. And giving feedback on the essays was like similar process of a research paper but just done a little different. When I got to read the paper and look for something that needs to be changed or errors like research and then I would explain why that was, like supporting evidence. It was helpful getting feedback from others and hearing what they have to say about the essay.These were two things that help me accomplish the goal.

We were asked to write 4 essays throughout the entirely of this course. Each of the essays included an original version, followed by a revision memo, and last but not least a final revised version of the essay. After we completed an essay, the professor would grade our original essay and provide feedback on how to further improve on our final revised essay. We then would have to take his corrections into consideration and write 2 paragraphs on how to fix our mistakes called a revision memo. The first essay we were asked to write an “Argument Description”. For this essay, it was required for the students to find the writer’s primary and secondary claims of a particular essay chosen from the Best American Essays book and describe how they work. Secondly, we were asked to write an “Argument Analysis”. In this essay it required the same work as the “Argument Description” essay, but we were asked to find the implications in the claims stated. The next essay, Professor Stuart asked us to write was a “Genre Analysis”. Our final essay was called an “Argument in Literature”. (DESCRIBE THE ESSAYS COLLECTIVELY)
Essay writing is one of the basic skills needed to have when attending school. No matter how a student tries to reduce the amount of writing needed for an essay, they will have to master the method for your assignment. The writer could use an essay to either inform, persuade, or entertain the audience but if their essay is boring and dry the writer will not get the audience’s attention. The content should have a specific objective to reach a particular audience. When writing a good essay, everyone has a different opinion on the technics needed for the essay to be entertaining.

Writing an essay in college is a big challenge for most students, including myself. It involves strong critical thinking and a meticulous process. After narrowing down and selecting a topic, we then need to establish the main point and how we want to deliver our opinions, ideas, or visions to our audience. We want to create a piece of writing that delivers a clear message, with strong and relevant details, to support the main point. We need to think and plan thoroughly, write, review, and rewrite before we get the end result. This is why drafting, reviewing, revising, and editing are vital parts of writing.
The students will be given a reading passage called Super Hero Joey. The majority of the students are familuar with this passage but will be asked to reread the passage as a class. After reading the passage, the students will then be asked to idenitfy the main idea and three suporting detial. This activity will be done as a whole gorup and will use the same thumbs up or down systme that was used earlier. If not all the students agree with the statement that their peer said then the students who disagreed will be asked why they disagreeed and then what they think the answer sould be. The majority of the students will have to agree with the statement before I write it down on the board.
