Refugees coming into the country has been a problem for our country for a long time. The issue of refugees coming to America first surfaced during World War II, when millions of Europeans fled their homes for a better future. Since then, there has been a large amount of dispute over this issue. This became a much bigger problem after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and with concerns of future acts of terrorism in the country, this topic has become a big controversy. I believe that the United States should accept refugees under the following conditions, minors should come into the country with an adult, there should be a higher security in case of terrorists, and we should have more job opportunities aimed towards refugees so that they have a …show more content…
To add on to that, Anne Frank and her family were going to flee their country and come to America, but it never happened because of strict immigration laws during the war. American University history professor Richard Breitman wrote about Anne Frank’s family and how they all would have survived the Holocaust if immigration rules in the U.S would have been different and if Anne hadn’t died at such a young age. He claimed that "Anne Frank could be a 77-year-old woman living in Boston today -- a writer” (Newsela, 2015). If the country had let more refugees into the country during the war, Anne would have lived a much longer life, and she would have had a much better life in America.
The last condition of the country to accept refugees is that there need to be more job opportunities aimed towards refugees. The 1951 coffee shop in Berkeley, California is entirely staffed by refugees (except the co-founders) from countries like Eritrea, Afghanistan, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan, Uganda, and Syria. “It’s difficult to be a new person in a new country, but being here, in the U.S., you get respect and recognition. The most important thing is to live with dignity” (Newsela, 2017) says Tedros Abraha, an employee, and a refugee from Eritrea. This shows that it can be hard to adjust to a new place when you’re a refugee, but you need to have faith in yourself and be strong. This is why job opportunities for refugees are a great idea. By doing
Refugees are people who are forced to leave their home due to war, or natural disasters and try to start over by fleeing to a new country.Refugees are going through a lot, fleeing their homes, and having their lives turned inside out. For lots of families who are fleeing their country due to war or a natural disaster, it’s hard for them to adapt to their new lifestyle, learning a new language, new education, and bullies. Fleeing to America gives the refugees a fresh start in life, helps them to start over and more opportunities than they had in the country they fled from. “Children of War” “My graduation is next year, so I have to think about college...America is giving us a better future than we could have in Bosnia”(Brice-26).
My opinion is obviously not to be mistaken for not allowing anyone into the United States. If perhaps an individual is willing to go through the complete legal process of becoming an American citizen, by all means, let them live happily in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. I believe it is time for America and it 's leaders to percieve this crisis for what it really is. The affects of this immigration will target many more people than just the refugee 's themselves. To remain blind to this nationwide problem, is to commit an act of terror on our own country. The negative impacts of this political problem will far exceed the benefits it may provide for some. The foundation of America will forever be changed, due to the fact that making
Can you imagine that your little town is being attacked or even a natural disaster may be occurring and you have nowhere to go? What would you do? How would you survive? You would have to flee your home away from the tragic disaster. You would have no place to call home and all you would have is the clothes on your back. Some in the process of leaving their town never get to see their family again and are lucky if they survive. This is why I believe that refugees should be allowed into the United States under certain conditions. These include having a positive background, being eligible for a job and respecting our nation as well as the people in it. As the US turns refugees away, thousands of lives are being taken away. We could easily help them by taking them into our country. Although some people that enter the country may commit crimes, that doesn’t mean we should turn all of them away. It would cause way more harm than good. Most crimes that happen in the United States are caused by the people that are US citizens rather than the refugees. All of these innocent lives are just being taken away and as many Americans sit back and do nothing about it. When we could be out there saving lives. Our country has to step in and do something about this serious situation. There are solutions we could use to solve these problems by making sure all people that enter this country are good at heart. Outside of very few exceptions our country is mainly made up of refugees and
We all come from different places and ethnicities, and because of having a dream, people fled away from their home to seek for something to make their life better. Going to a country like United States, is not only a dream but also, an opportunity because many people think that America is the best place to settle in, where work, and education are an easy access. Though this statement is partly true, it is not that easy. Everyone envied because America is a great nation because it's a country of opportunity, but a part of it also is a mixture of feelings that are hard to explain especially if you are immigrant. Every day in your life, you are fighting for something in order to fit in and survive. However, in the process of fitting in or blending to a certain place, people, and culture, it requires a lot of personal choices and a lot of effort as an immigrant. It does not only affect you as a human, but also it draws a lot of attention, conflicts and tension between the government and community. Most immigrants have a harder time to adjust or assimilate even though they speak fluent English and eat American foods. Whenever you see a person of white complexion, people assumed that blue eyes and blonde hair are the characteristics of an American, though these are how we perceived American long time ago, this are still the standards of a few now and doesn’t make a big change at all. The judgement of how a person look physically and how they
Thousands and thousands of refugees are risking their lives just to have a better life, and it’s OUR government that wants to keep them out, and forbid them from living the life they deserve. Help the U.S. let them into America, help let them into your life, and most importantly; help them realise that they have a purpose on this Earth too. Be their
Imagine that you are in an airport trying to flee your country because there is a war going on, all of a sudden you get stopped by a security officer saying that the country you are trying to go to does not allow refugees, What would you do? The debate about refugees has been around since World War Two when Hitler was trying to torture or kill all the jews and other people he did not like. Here in America we did not let refugees into the U.S. during the war and a bunch of them were killed, however some did survive. Some people think that we should let them into the United States of America well, others say they should not be allowed to enter the U.S. In the year of 2016 there was around thirty-eight thousand refugees that were allowed into the United States. There were a bunch of other refugees that applied to come to the united states but got denied, because the U.S. did not choose them or they did not pass the test to become a refugee. The idea that refugees should not be allowed into the united states because they could bring disease, they could be a criminal or a terrorist, and they use up our land and resources deserves some merit. However These arguments do not realise that if we bring them into the United States we could save their lives, or give them better living conditions. In this article I will argue that we should allow refugees into the United States, but only under certain circumstances. Those circumstances are they should be allowed into the united
The debate about asylum seekers in Australia is contentious and politically charged, but research commissioned by Amnesty International has found that anti-asylum seekers sentiments are not actually fuelled by racism.
Intro: Refugees face a far worse life than most people can imagine, and there is no easy way out for them. They first must get out of whatever dangerous place they are in, then travel long distances with almost no resources, and even if they do make it safely to the USA there is a chance they will be sent back or even put in jail. The refugee experience is defined by risks and belonging.
I have chosen the topic about the refugee and asylum seekers health issues as refugee health considering one of the important health problems in Australian. The review will focus some issues on refugee health base on the relevant and substantial literature. Literature review tried explore about
Regardless of what the United States government ultimately decides to do, it is important to stay open minded in drastic times like these. By attempting to remove the stereotype refugees have to carry around with them, assessing which countries we want to be associated with, and working to help those in need while keeping the security of American citizens in-tact-- America will be playing a very beneficial role in helping refugees acquire
This film was shown to me by Sharleen Davids, whom as a Primary School teacher at Darlington Primary, it was made compulsory viewing. By means of assisting with teachers’ understanding of the circumstances of an asylum seeker. In essence, this film was beneficial; especially as a great proportion of the students at her primary school are refugees. Respectively, the film was produced by refugees advocate Jessie Taylor. Taylor travelled to Indonesia, where she met with asylum seekers. A collection of the stories she heard were shaped into a documentary named, ‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ (2006). The film makers involved created a stir with the ad line: 'The film that Tony and Julia don't want you to see’. (Peter Galvin, 2013) The
Refugees are people who are forced to flee a country because of persecution or because of serious human rights abuses. Refugees can help with things like the economy and by letting in refugees we can prove to Isis that we are not scared of them. Although it can be unsafe trusting machines to detect anything wrong, we are letting in families that need help, not singular people that are just looking for a place to live. Should refugees be allowed to come into a country that is peaceful and safe?
Terrorists Terrorism/Crime are a big reason that refugees should not be let into the united states. One of the big reasons is that there are a lot of people trying to either get a visa or sneak into our country. “There have been over 400 cases of people sneaking across the border from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, and Syria”. Associated Press 2015)This shows that people who shouldn't be crossing the border are sneaking in with the refugees to cause terrorism to our country. There are very few reasons that people from those countries should ever be entering our country, and them trying to sneak in and illegally come into our country tells us they are probably planning
I believe in Napoleon Hill who's an American author when he says “Your big opportunity may be right where you are.” United States is a big opportunity for refugee. I am so glad that I explore this opportunity. People should explore the opportunities that came to them because this opportunity may change your whole life to a better life. My life had been changed and my future. I have been through many difficulties but I am strong enough to get over all of these difficulties. At the end, no matter what do not wise any
Refugee issue is a global issue mainly due to wars, conflicts or environmental, political, religious and racial reasons (Gibney & Gil, 2010). In recent years, the turmoil triggered by the "Arab Spring" in many countries in West Asia and North Africa causing numerous refugees, so it has once again attracted the attention of people(Grossman, 2017). People forced to relocate their homes and even renounce their nationality by war or natural disasters are defined as refugee(UNHCR,2017).The influx of refugees brings cheap labor forces reducing the cost of productions ,and causes the promotion of economic development. In addition, the increasing population leads to an increase in demand which can increase the income of the host countries and the state tax. It can be argued that refugees are unable to benefit the host nations because refugees increase unemployment rate and occupy resources in education. Although it may be true that there are some negative effects caused by refugees, refugees can benefit the host nation in terms of economy and social advancement.
