To intern for the State Department in the Milan Consulate's Regional Security Office would allow me to explore modern issues such as security and terrorism through a governmental gaze. This is a great opportunity to find out how governments view these issues. I have only studied and heard about these international and national problems through the eyes of a college student and of a mass media consumer. In addition, these issues are most likely not going to disappear from the global and domestic conversation any time soon, so it would be valuable to learn the language appropriate for talking about such in a governmental environment.
This internship would stretch my comfort zone when it comes to global issues. I usually take the "liberal" (in

My most important career goal is to be a Foreign Services Officer (FSO) serving under the political cone. This internship would give me the opportunity to work for the State Department under current Foreign Services Officers (FSOs). This familiarity within the system I hope to work for someday will promote my understanding of how the US works in a diplomatic sense in other countries. While the US isn't the focus of the Dickey Center, I believe that the system and processes that the US employ through the American embassies and consulates around the world is important to understand when wanting to create change or be a positively influencing international citizen.
In a broader sense, this internship would be my first job with the government. Having an internship with the government would teach what it is like to work for the US, and whether or not I meld well with the values and structure of the system. Another broader point is that part of my job would be writing real world and real time analysis. This internship would test my ability to write well and concisely under pressure, so that others could understand complicated situations and information
An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. No matter where the skills and understanding of professionalism lie, internship is a chance to develop them even further.
Interning at the FBI is one of my most meaningful experiences because it gave me the opportunity to serve in my community, learn how to effectively communicate between the intelligence community and the outside community, as well as strengthened my leadership skills.
As the internship program and the training intended, I have learned much related to my major, Criminal Justice. This internship helped me to acknowledge that qualified, knowledgeable professionals are needed by our complex society to define, administer, and put our rules and standards into force. Like jobs in any other field, to work in the field of law requires expertise. Trained experts are the most desirable to be hired by organizations, tasked to manage justice, to direct their operations. By writing articles for the legal website, I learned to assess law enforcement situations orderly. I learned to make use of the basic legal and management theories to analyze the situations. I got the opportunity to show my understanding of the key process in the U.S. criminal justice system. I also learned to combine approaches from management, law, and the behavioral science to apply them to the situations I was studying.
As part of the degree requirements of the Bachelor of Arts in Consular and Diplomatic Affairs program, all CDA students must—before graduating—complete 500 hours of practicum work. To fulfill the graduation requirement for an internship, I was able to grab the opportunity to apply for an internship and use my academic training experience for three years to the workplace in the real world. The course has provided me the venue to further enhance my knowledge and competencies as CDA student in my chosen field of specialization and future career objectives after graduation. As a student trainee, I have been able to take advantage of the tools and skills I have been equipped by my intensive academic formation in the college, to be competent enough
I'm a excellent writer and took many African American Studies classes. I also have a huge appreciation for the arts. I love to draw and I was apart of the drama and script writing club in High School. As such, I will be able to bring to the internship everything I learned as a English major which includes writing, communication, and leadership skills and my knowledge in art and
After speaking to people, I often had a time to reflect on what I heard. The product was a much greater understanding of the complexity of the American political system. I grew up thinking that that one side was right, and the other was full of irrational arguments. However, people sharing bits of their lives with me taught me that is not true. The support and opposition for every policy makes sense, and deciding which is right is far more of a value judgment than a facts-based judgment than I could have imagined. I feel less sure about what I believe politically after the internship, but again, I do not think that is a bad thing. For the first time, I know how to enter into a thought process without a bias, and able to listen to both sides. This skill is critical for any studies or career in the social sciences.
Emigrated from the Philippines, the moment I step into the American soil, I knew that I was given an opportunity to serve and contribute my unique view of the world. Aside from having a degree in Accounting, my Public Affair major with Public Management specialty, will allow me to
In addition to studying general Business Marketing, I am specifically interested in the business of the entertainment industry, heavily focusing on the marketing and creative aspects of it. Ultimately, I am working towards a successful career in all areas of the entertainment industry and this internship can definitely sharpen my skills into becoming that well-versed and well-rounded player in the industry. In addition to being an A and B student, I also explore my craft and major concentration via extracurricular activities and beyond. Currently, I create and
As I approach graduation, like many before me, I wondered what I was going to do with the rest of my life, with the hope of finding a career path that I would love. For me, I always have thought about furthering my education by going to law school or getting into politics. As I grappled with the decision of what would by my next step, I started to look for jobs in line with my qualifications and interests. My sister sent me the link to this internship, telling me to apply and saying that she knew the job is something that interests me. The moment I opened the link I was filled with excitement. This was the opportunity I was looking for! I am interested in this internship because it is an exciting opportunity to experience the operations of
My educational background is in Communications and Public Relations. Some of my accomplishments include working with a non-profit (WYMCA) to build a markeing and PR campaign that earned my team top honors in my capstone class at Texas Tech University. Selection for the DC internship was based upon recommendations from my professors and completion of a
I will be participating in various academic, research, and external engagement activities of the Kennedy Institute as well as perform my own project-based tasks related to EU conflict prevention and Kennedy Institute programs. While the exact dates and specifics of this internship are still being looked over, it should be at least several weeks to three months in length. I will be working Monday through Friday on these research based tasks under the supervision of Dr. Doyle at the Kennedy Institute at Maynooth
I've always been interested in things such as women's rights and LGBT rights but I haven't really gotten the chance to do something. I did do Sadie Nash Leadership Project during my senior year of high school and I really enjoyed it and would do it again and i still visit whenever I can, but I would like to expand beyond that and do other things to help and learn about those issues. I think that being a PRASC intern would give me the chance to do that.
I aspire to one day become a medical examiner. I have always been interested in both the field of medicine and the criminal justice system and this career is a way I can integrate both. This internship will help me to learn more about this career as well as both fields of interest. I will be a part of the arson bureau where I have the opportunity to work with suspects, witnesses, and victims as well as learn about the criminal investigation process. I will also get to work with the medical examiner and view autopsies.
My internship plans and career plans are the same. I am aiming for a career in cyber security working for the NSA in Hawaii. My mother’s family lives there and along with my husband (who works in banking technology), my entire family supports my plans for my future and this exciting internship and career opportunity. I have applied to the Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations Summer Intern Program (Hawaii) in order to learn on-the-job and to better secure a position at the National Security Administration (NSA) in Hawaii, after graduation. My hope is that I too will contribute to keeping our country safe as I believe in the mission of the NSA which is “to protect the nation.” *
As far as professional development goes, I am looking for an internship that will give me insight into the fields of either research or legal services. These are the two career paths that I am currently considering, and exposure to either would help me choose between them. I would also like to continue to develop skills that are relevant to each field and to work with people who can offer me career guidance.
