Religion can be explained as a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs (n.d.). Christianity is most popular religion in America and in the world with over 2.1 billion adheres. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ who lives in the Holy Land 2,000 years ago. Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal. It also exists among significant populations outside of the sub continent and has over 900 million adherents worldwide. Namaste means “I bow to the divine in you,” mean I respect your god in you. In America, people say “Hi” or “what’s up” to greet each other. In America, people see Indian women wearing red dot on their forehead mean they are married, but nowadays it is fashion put dot on your forehead. American holiday I really like is Christmas because I get a lot of gift and I get to drink eggnog. The history of Christmas is a honoring the birth of Jesus Christ; Christmas evolved over two millennia into a worldwide religion and secular celebration, incorporating many pre-Christian, pagan traditions into the festivities along the way (History). Today, Christmas celebrates with family and friend gets together and exchange gifts. Another American holiday I really like Thanksgiving because get to together with family and friends and have a big dinner and enjoy ourselves. The history of thanksgiving is in 1621; the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indian shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies (history). Holi is probably the least religious of Hindu holidays. During Holi, people attend a public bonfire at eve of Holi. Next day, people spray color powder and color water to friend and family. Some parts of India people also drink Bhang, a milk base drink with marijuana. The history behind Holi is evil king named Hiranyakashipu. He forbade his son Prahlad from worshipping Vishnu, but Radhu continued to do offer prayers to the god. Getting angry with his son, Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlad to sit on a pyre with his wicked aunt Holika who was believed to be immune to fire. Prahlad accepted the challenge and prayed to Vishnu to keep him safe.
