Renewable Energy Resources?

As the world population rises, we are using more and more energy and it is depleting faster than ever. Our fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) will not last forever and at some point we will have to switch over completely to renewable energy sources. While most of the world still uses non-renewable energy sources, the future will rely on renewable energy and its applications. Right now, over 90% of the world still uses fossil fuels and developing countries even burn wood to generate energy. At the rate we are using our fossil fuels, they will not last us far into the 22nd century. Additionally, big consumers of fossil fuels like China, U.S., Russia, and India are creating large amounts of pollution and it is only increasing. For instance, India has major issues with pollution because of heavy traffic (which releases more fuel emissions into the air), the burning of biomass (wood and other organic matter), and runoff into lakes and rivers. Right now, our biggest goal should be to figure out how to implement more forms of renewable energy in our own society. We should start using renewable energy in America because: it is more environmentally friendly, opens up the job market, and improves the health of the public.

The U.S. is using non-renewable resources affecting the environment and the resource itself negatively. This is a problem because the fossil fuels are creating a tremendous amount of Carbon Dioxide and the Carbon Dioxide is polluting the air. This is bad for the environment because of the amount of pollution and because of the way you obtain fossil fuels. This resource is not renewable, this means that the resource will run out over time. In this day and age, the demand for this resource is increasing rapidly due to overpopulation and the demand for more cars. If we could come up with a renewable resource to replace fossil fuels, then we wouldn't have to rely on a non-renewable resource any longer. This is where hydropower comes in. hydropower should replace fossil fuels and the U.S. a better place.

As the planet’s population continues to grow, so will the energy needs. Even with fast advancement of technology, humans are only able to extract so much oil in a given period. Relying solely on fossil fuels and pushing off the inevitable does not make sense. If all of the United States oil supply and every other non-renewable energy source had suddenly disappeared from the face of North America, Americans would have no choice but to rely on renewable energy resources and that would not be a problem. As more solar panels, windmills, and hydroelectric turbines were built and placed in their respective environments, the United States would be back on its feet within no time. This would eventually lead to lower energy costs and a much greener and environmentally friendly nation overall. In the long run, investing and focusing on renewable energy resources provides the United States with a fail-safe solution which would also provide citizens with the energy they need to power their everyday

At this moment, people are using cars from a renewable source. The benefits of using renewable energies are that there will be less global warming and improve public health. Generating and supplying more green energy in the US can have a big impact in the environment and in our economy. With more green energy resources a big amount disasters that affect our environment can be reduced. Such disasters include oil spills, nuclear leaks and the emission of harmful pollutants. Electric power plants are one of the biggest contributors to pollution in the country due to the amount of carbon and sulfur dioxides that are released into the air. Carbon dioxide emitted into the air is confirmed to contribute to global warming and sulfur dioxide causes acid rain, which can kill plants and animals in lakes and rivers. In comparison, green energy is generated in much more natural and harmless methods that don’t affect our environment. Renewable energy wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and biomass provides substantial benefits for our climate, and our health.

Throughout time, we have heard how renewable energies are more efficient than coal. They are cleaner, better for the environment, and allegedly more cost efficient. How cost efficient fossil fuels are may depend on which side you look at – the electric company or people and businesses. For an electric company, it is very cost efficient. However, it will take time to see the efficiency to a business. Electric companies have to build or change the plants they currently have in order to meet the needs of the new system, whether it be wind, solar, etc. The “war on coal” came too quickly; as we will detail below, you cannot quit using your main source of heat to generate electricity and expect the country to run as it has before. Changing takes time and money.

Environmentalists have pushed hard to try and get clean energy like solar and wind more affordable so the world can make a transition to clean energy. The reason renewable energy is not being pushed as hard as it should has to do with the government. Oil companies practically bribe republicans in the house and the senate to ignore attempts to make clean energy possible. When clean energy becomes more popular and affordable, oil production and business goes down. These oil companies don’t want anything but money, and they are getting money in the wrong way. They are destroying the the Earth for their own wealth, which is an extremely monstrous

Imagine a life without washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, computers, televisions, lights, and cars. Imagine a planet so polluted that smog is in the air so bad that one cannot see very far, lakes and streams are poisoned, and land so badly scarred from people trying to find more energy sources. One of the most important innovations ever made by humankind was a discovery of the ability to transform the energy into the electricity. In today’s modern world it is hard to imagine that there was a world without the electricity and that electricity was gifted to the humanity just 400 years ago. As George Gobel said once: “If it weren’t for electricity, we’d all be watching television by candlelight”.

There are many forms of renewable energy . Most of these renewable energies depend in one way or another on sunlight. Wind and hydroelectric power are the direct result of differential heating of the Earth 's surface which leads to air moving about (wind) and precipitation forming as the air is lifted. Solar energy is the direct conversion of sunlight using panels or collectors. Biomass energy is stored sunlight contained in plants. Other renewable energies that do not depend on sunlight are geothermal energy, which is a result of radioactive decay in the crust combined with the original heat of accreting the Earth, and tidal energy, which is a conversion of gravitational energy.

Energy has been a major part of humanity ever since the first human learned how to harness safety, warmth, and energy from fire. Today, with seven billion humans on Earth, it is possible that our constant need for energy could destroy our beautiful and fragile planet. One way to solve this problem is to start using renewable energies such as solar and wind.

We as American’s today do not understand and take for granted having electricity. Many of us think we do not care where my electricity comes from as long as we have it. You receive your electrical bill each month, pay it and go on with your day-to-day life. The media and news sources talk about Solar and Wind power will take away all of our pollution and the world will be much better off and cleaner. Have you ever stopped and thought the price that you would be paying if coal fired generation did not exist at all? It is a lot more expensive more than double the cost that you pay today. In rural Missouri the wind does not blow each day, the sun does not shine every day. How could we produce enough power off wind and solar alone? It would be impossible, therefore limiting us on when we could cool our homes, keep the lights on, charge our phones and this list goes on.

Alternate energy resources are being developed to compete against the fossil fuel power stations. Fossil fuel such as coal and oil are drilled and shoveled out of the ground and then processed to be turned into electricity. Problems with fossil fuels are that they produce hazardous air emissions and give off by-products that will harm the area. Some well-known alternate renewable energy resources are wind, solar, and hydro power. These are all sources that are in abundance and will be around for billions of years. Hydropower provides substantial amounts of electricity to the world by exploiting water, it totals about one fifth of the electricity worldwide (Renewable). While hydropower has its flaws, some environmentalists disclaim that hydropower is a widespread renewable energy source. However, this is a misconception because water is renewed in the water cycle, dams are environmentally sustainable to the ecosystem, and the only discharge from hydropower is unpolluted water.
