REPORTER: The reporter/ Social Worker (Wanda) called with concerns for the victim, Jose. According to the reporter, on today (01/15/2016) at 10:00am, the reporter received a phone call from law enforcement (Kenny Scott) in Vanderman stating that Jose was walking around (wandering around) in a the neighborhood without any shoes on. The neighbor noticed the child walking and called law enforcement. The child walked out of his home and began walking towards some of the neighbor’s homes. Law enforcement didn’t know where the child belonged. A neighbor (unknown) took the child into her home. Law enforcement located the child’s home and noticed that the door was wide open. When Law enforcement entered the home, they noticed 3 year old Dominick lying
Upon our arrival, a Hispanic male later identified as Juan Navarro opened the front door but not the security screen door of the home. I advised Navarro that I was the North Las Vegas Police Officer and was at his home because of the 911 disconnect. I asked Navarro if anyone else lived in the home to which he responded his three kids and the mother(Miriam Garcia) of his children lived there as well. I asked Navarro if we could speak to them to ensure that they were all in good health. At this point, Garcia came to the door and Navarro told me he would not open the door at that they were all "ok". Garcia then opened the screen door and when she did I noticed Navarro had two fresh diagonal scratches on his neck as well as two small cuts on his neck.
On 6/9/17 at 1252 Hrs. Officer Villalpando was dispatched to a juvenile problem 1608 10th St. Caller, Nicholas Allen advised that his son, Kaden Boyd (14) who was currently on house arrest, “cut” off his ankle monitor and was last seen getting into a black passenger car. Officer Villalpando arrived and met with Mr. Allen who told him that Kaden had been missing once before while in the Austin area, and that Kaden was involved with the criminal element believing his son is traveling to Austin with an older male, Michael Tabler who had recently been arrested.
IRTC spoke with Detective Ortiz who confirmed that the subject child was interviewed at the Bronx CAC prior to this case being reported to NYCACS. Detective Ortiz conveyed that the subject child made a partial disclosure and it is possible that a follow up interview might be necessary. Detective Ortiz stated that there might be another unrelated victim that he is in the process of trying to identify. Detective Ortiz said due to the perpetrator’s age, it is possible that some form of prosecution could take place, but it will occur in family court, not criminal court. Detective Ortiz indicated that cooperation counsel was present of the interview, but there are no pending charges against the perpetrator at this time. No additional coordination
On December 30, 2016, C-1 reported to members of the Metropolitan Police Department that at the she became involved in an argument with her son Jamari Hawkins over his living arrangements hereinafter referred to as D-1. D-1 swept C-1’s property off her bedroom dresser and slapped C-1’s cell phone out of her hand when C-1 attempted to call 911. D-1 also threw a small glass in C-1's direction. D-1 then initiated a physical altercation with C-2 who is the boyfriend of C-1, which resulted in C-2 suffering from minor injuries. D-1 then left the location on foot, going eastbound in the 5500 Block of Call Place SE.
Ms. Smalls (Case Coordinator) receive a call on 8/7/2017 around 7:45 AM from Mrs. Latonya Frazier(MHS) reporting Jacquelyn White was found in the bedroom closet asleep with a belt around her neck. Ms. Smalls advised Mrs. Frazier to call law enforcement and mobile crisis. Mrs. Frazier express concerns of the family safety. The youth left a note on the dresser addressed to her biological mother and asking Mrs. Frazier to return her cell phone to the mother. Mrs. Frazier explained earlier that morning around 12:40 AM, that one of the youth’s in the home reported Jacquelyn had a conversation about thinking of different ways to kill everyone in the home than burning the home. Ms. Smalls left a message and email the DSS worker. Ms. Smalls emailed
On 04/19/16, the reporter received information from an anonymous informant in regards to concerns for the children’s emotional well being. The reporter stated that the informant was present when they overheard the children tell their grandmother they witnessed their “TT" get killed at their house; the incident happened in June or July, 2015. The reporter stated at the time, Ms. Daniels was drunk and told the children that they did not need to be talking about what happened. The reporter stated there is an ongoing investigation in the murder of the children’s aunt. Detective Pickering stated that the victim was murdered at a home the children were in and her body was moved. The reporter stated there are suspects and people of interest at this
REPORTER: The reporters/Great Aunts (Velma/Mary Ann) called to report neglect for the victims, Maunaija, Maur’keryah, Mariuanna, and Marvin. According to the reporter, Kendra (mother) is not able to take care of the children. Two months ago, Maunaija came to live with Velma; Velma said the child was dirty and Kendra was not able to take care of her. The reporter said the child was being neglected, and Maunaija told Velma she was being teased at school. The children were saying that she stinks and her hair was nasty. Maur’keryah asked Mary Ann could she come and stay with her (unknown when), and she has been living there since August of 2015. Maur’keryah said she was being teased at school (said her hair was nappy and she didn’t have friends).
On September 1, 2017, at approximately 0300 hours, the undersigned detective received Camila and Juan’s medical-legal from the Children’s National Medical Center. Camila and Juan were examined at CNMC by Dr. Sophia Smith. Camila disclosed to Dr. Smith that she and he brother were disciplined at home by her stepfather. Camila stated that her stepfather whipped their buttock with a belt. Juan’s medical-legal reported that his injuries were consistent with a hit from a belt. Social Workers are mandated reporters – all states require reporting for child abuse/neglect but state laws differ on what other groups require reporting. This may sound counterintuitive, but should social workers be required to be mandated reporters? What are the reasons for and the reasons against being required to report certain cases.
It's unknown if they answered the door or not; the police left. The reporter stated it sounds like a toddler child or a child around 7 years of age. The reporter is pretty sure she hasn't heard anything since Tuesday night. She hasn't seen the lights or bedroom lights on since Wednesday or Thursday. On yesterday, the man was seen leaving the home 3 times. He came back to the home. It's unknown where he went or how long he was gone. The reporter assumes he works because sometimes, he leaves at 5:00 in the morning. It's unknown who drives the red car at the home. The reporter is really concerned because it was bad. The reporter just wants to be on the safe side. The reporter has not spoke with anyone in the home about the concerns. It's unknown if the child needs immediate medical attention. Looking at ethical issues from the parents’ perspective the way the detectives and police approached them was unethical. The detective and police could have asked questions first to investigate appropriately and calmly the situation. Instead it alarmed and outraged the parents by them telling the parents, “this happened to your child.” Nevertheless, the parents would have wanted to know whether their child was a victim. From the investigation unit, they probably believed they approached the situation appropriately by gathering information to serve justice to the community.
REPORTER: the reporter/Law Enforcement (Stephen) called with concerns for the victim, Caiden. On today (09/23/2015), Stephen received a call concerning the victim; the neighbor’s saw the child running up and down the street unsupervised. Some women (unknown) were knocking on Breanna’s (mom) door for 15 to 20 minutes before she came to the door. Breanna was in the back of the home, and when she heard the dog barking, she came to the door. The neighbor’s said the child was nasty, but when the reporter arrived, the child was clean. The reporter said Breanna was lying down in the bed trying to put her 8 month old to sleep, and Caiden was in the bed with her. The reporter said Breanna fell asleep and Caiden got down out of the bed and went out the

The social worker applied both skills of culturally competent and culturally sensitive, by the social worker, Hugo Kamya gave direct eye contact, and respecting his client based on the client’s culture. I know for sure there were multiple culturally competent skills that were demonstrated in the video. From my observation for this skill, the social worker seemed to have a limited amount of knowledge of his client’s native home. The social work had some knowledge of the different area(s) of where his client family had relocated. While watching the video, there was direct contact between the social worker and the client. Their conversation was mutual on what was being said, response, and the way there appeared to be a connection between the two
During the interview process with Ms. Martha Vallejo, she was able to spread profound knowledge to my group members and I. She explained to us that being a social worker is not an easy task and that on some days you feel as though you may want to give up. However, what struck my attention the most was how she described the connection you will make with each individual you meet and they joys you gain when you see them succeed in life or even want to succeed. She shared with us , that seeing the children succeed or their lives changing for the better is what pushes you to continue doing your job and reminds you why you wanted to do the job in the first place. Ms. Vallejo shared a stories about some of the young men and women she has dealt with
