His mother thought little of his studies and encouraged him to take up farming, just as his father had. The laws of gravity operate differently in space then those very same laws operate on earth. For example, in space, gravity is suspended and things tend to be far more weightless, and floating about. If you were aiming for an object to land at a certain destination, it would most likely never make it there without some type of guidance system to manipulate and use the laws of gravity.
