One of the most famous paintings in the world is undoubtedly La Mona Lisa, also known as La Gioconda. This wonderful work was made by the renowned Italian painter Leonardo Da Vinci, a leader and intellectual artist of the Italian Renaissance. Actually this work is exhibited in the museum of Louvre in Paris, France, under heavy security and protection since 1797. The Mona Lisa was the last great work of Leonardo. He spent four years in paint it. He began in 1503, when he was in Florence, but obviously worked on it for a long period of time because it was dedicated solely to complete. Between 1510 and 1519 he continued to tweak it until his death taking his work to Rome and France. This essay will let to know a little more about the Mona Lisa, who was her, what technique Leonardo Da Vinci used on it, and some description of its main feature, her smile.
The identity of the lady portrayed has been under much speculation, but it is accepted as such by Vasari that it could be Lisa Ghirardini, the wife of a wealthy merchant named Francesco Del Giocondo. Hence, the lady painted is also known as The Mona Lisa or La Gioconda . Leonardo used the Sfumato technique which consists in blurring the lines so that convey a sense of immersion in the atmosphere, better perceived in the eyes and hands. The young lady sitting in a chair puts her arms on the armrests, her right hand rests on the left reflecting a sense of serenity. Leonardo did not pose her using front or profile, but sitting at an angle. It is placed in three quarters or average profile. She is sitting in a gallery that opens harmoniously with the natural landscape depicted realistically, inspired by the Alps. The painting shows that Mona Lisa has no eyebrows or eyelashes, maybe because the artist did not have time to complete
